Just watched "Idol Wrap" on the TV Guide Channel. Next week the Top 10 will sing a song from the year they were born.

Also, remember that crying girl from last year, who was bawling when Sanjaya was singing? She was given tickets to next Tuesday's show. The odds are that she'll latch onto either David Archuleta or Jason Castro.

It was best Amanda left. She probably had no interest taking singing lessons from Mariah Carey. She's no REO Speedwagon, you know.

Undoubtedly, if the X-Files was current, there would be an episode devoted to "The Crying Girl".

A song from the year they were born? Dang, there were some really crappy years, so this is a real crap-shoot. Then again, the odds of getting a really good song from some of the 'guest mentors' haven't been that good, either.

If they want to do something different, they could give the Top Five the same song and see which ones come up with the best arrangements. Of course, they would also get to sing an individual song, too.

Couldn't get the link to work, but logged onto Youtube separately & got it.

Very much better than his mashup (and *****up) of the song last week. Some songs just weren't meant to be abbreviated, and hearing the full lyrics sung correctly (rather than the mangled version on Tuesday) proves that. "ADITL" is very much a concept song...and having been assembled from bits from both Lennon & Mac, it plays much better in album format than standing alone. It's also very much a product of its times (the "I'd love to turn you on" refrain & the soaring echo 'went into a dream" studio effect date the song a bit).

Other than his tendency to hoarsely croak a bit on the high notes (very evident in the live version this past week), my main problem with the studio version is its blatant imitation of the original arrangement...right down to Ringo's downbeat, the plinking piano, the string arrangement, etc. All that was missing was the alarm clock going off at the bridge.

It's almost as if Johns or his producer(s) had such reverence for the original that they felt it sacreligious to change anything. I actually had hopes when the song began with the accoustic guitar that he would be doing a different take. Alas, no. If I wanted to hear the original, I've got in on CD. I'll stick with the Beatles/George Martin version, thank you very much.

Here are a bunch of other studio versions (from the same youtube poster) by the other contestants (gives you an idea of how they'd sound on an album:

Amanda gone!

Carly in the bottom three! I'm sure it won't happen again, but it was nice to see her taken down a peg. Good singer, but like others I'm tired of that weird screaming expression and the sleeveless outfits.

Eye candy survives! She may be in the bottom two for the rest of the season!

I just figured she couldn't blend (the blend was actually pretty nice)

Oh boy ... in other words, 80s week part deux (with only Archuleta and Johns being barely outside both ends of the decade).
