I thought that as well. But what if the purpose of the targets was to allow for the greater opportunity of a western )non California) government to be able to take hold by weakening the East (and central east), while still having some "random" elements to make it look a little haphazard as though it was terrorists?

That may be crap, but it was a thought.

And....that was a great episode. Pisses me off that people would rather watch crappy dancing, people opening boxes, crappy singing, etc. over good original programming.

Peep 03-05-08 02:49 AM

Another great episode!! They just keep getting better. Only 3 left. Is that really the end of the series??

Seantn 03-05-08 03:08 AM

I would guess so. It's been averaging the same amount of viewers that it had when they canceled it initially last May.

Doc MacGyver 03-05-08 09:30 AM

Hey, all. I'm new to these threads, as I just got caught up on Jericho last weekend. Fantastic show (which is going to be all the more frustrating if they cancel it again after I've invested the time), but still and all, I'm glad I put in the effort.

I will miss the "Town on its own, post-apocalypse, surviving against threats internal and external" aspect, but I am digging the "Two Americas" conspiracy angle, and Hawkins continues to just get more and more badass.

Random thoughts:

Stanley rejoining the rebellion and going all "Hulk Smash" on Ravenwood will be fun.

Is Mrs. Greene no longer on the show?

I have never, and will never be able to buy Dale as the John Connor of the "Visitors."

This show could just be about Jake and Hawkins, with no one else in the town, and I'd still watch it.

As someone else stated - It seems hitting the East Coast was more of a priority. Plus, look at it from this vantage point... While Pittsburgh isn't a very politically important US city, it's still a HUGE producer of Steel for the country... a manufacturing necessity should a war suddenly break out between east and west...
Washington and Philadelphia are symbolic victories (both capitals at one point, both symbols of the birth of the US) As for Indianapolis, well again - as stated previously - that's a city in the west, but not a very important one... nuke it to keep up appearances... as for the belt of states you mentioned... notice a lot of farmland has been left unsullied? This new government is going to need a bread basket, afterall...

Or maybe I'm just looking way too far into this.

Anyway, great show, and I really hope it doesn't get canceled... the peanuts thing probably won't work again, right?

That was sad. I had to go back and watch her boobies in Weeds just to make me feel better.

Actually, it's been averaging 1.5 to 2M less compared to last year. Last nights #'s of 5.88M is one of, if not the lowest viewership it's had.

I really really doubt this will be picked up for another season. Even though they said last night that there are only 3 episodes left this season.

And as sad as the death of the deaf girl was, it will be the rallying point for the town to start fighting back against the corporation / government. The tide has turned.

it's on at freakin' 10pm...what did they really expect?

great show..love it love it...what a tragedy if it's canceled again...aargh, just wanna rip my hair out and scream to America: WHAT THE F IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????

mwbmis 03-05-08 03:50 PM

You have to wonder what reaction Cass from JFC will have. She was friends with Bonnie, and she knows the whole thing about Mimi. Or maybe D.B. Sweeney will try to bump her off too.

It's sad that they've made the show so entertaining that I'll actually miss it now. Even though it did get better towards the end of last year I still wouldn't have missed it if hadn't come back. Damn them!

That'sAllFolks 03-05-08 05:36 PM

Probably look forward to this show more than any other right now.

This is how it should have been from the start!

That's the way I feel. I didn't care about the initial cancellation because, frankly, the 1st season wasn't good, and I thought the nerdish nuts campaign was ridiculous. I would have never missed it. Then they brought it back, refocused the show in a very entertaining way, and threw it in a shitty timeslot so it would underperform to justify its ultimate execution just to fuck with me.

DJariya 03-05-08 06:26 PM

The problem is that most of the hardcore fans who sent in the nuts don't have the Nielsen box. I've visited the CBS forum for Jericho and noone there has the box.

Jimmy James 03-05-08 07:06 PM

It's not a problem involving who has the box. It's statistical modeling. It's not perfect, but it's better than any other system for how much it costs.

The problem is that the public as a whole chooses to watch dreck.

DJariya 03-05-08 07:24 PM

So what about the 3-5M additional Americans who are indeed watching the show live, but don't own the box. The 5.88M viewers that Nielsen estimated could easily be much more. The system is flawed.....estimating mass viewership from such a small population stinks and hoses alot of good shows like this.

I just read the new press release that said over 1.5M more Americans watched the season premiere of Jericho via DVR which increased viewership to over 8M.

Red Dog 03-05-08 07:29 PM

What is 1.5M DVR viewers added on compared to other shows? Also, why would a network care bout DVR people who are likely skipping commercials?

MFRONE 03-05-08 08:06 PM

The show didn't air until after 1:30am in Columbus because of election coverage and I'm sure this was the case in many other markets around the country as well.

The point I am trying to make is there is significantly more people in the United States watching this show than what the Nielsen system leads us to believe and they aren't able to account all of them. I know that the DVR figures mean jack shit to CBS because they aren't watching the commercials.

For all we know, there could be 5M more people watching Jericho on a Bunny ears antenna TV.

It's pretty much if you don't have this fucking box, your viewership and support of the show means jack shit. It also doesn't help when alot of posters in these forums have such a negative attitude to supporting new programs that they refuse to watch it and say...."I'll wait for the DVD and watch season 2."

DVD Mike2 03-05-08 09:10 PM

How come no mention of other bombs around the world? I thought China was hit as well? There was a reference made about 700 million screaming china men and Jake asked I thought it was a billion and the reply was not anymore.

1) How do you know?
2) Wouldn't this apply to any show? You could make the argument you're making about any show.

If I remember right, that line of bull came from the fake army folks who came in on the tank. They were full of shit, and you shouldn't believe anything they said.

I do wish they'd give us a little more on the aid drop from China, though.

DVD Mike2 03-07-08 03:37 AM

If the new government is looking for the bomb to wipe out any evidence that is was an inside job. How do they explain the bomb that did not go off in NYC? The police stopped them from setting it off according to one episode.

That's a very good point. Perhaps those behind this were able to suppress that one somehow.

Wasn't that from Red Dawn?

JuryDuty 03-08-08 12:07 AM

Great episode. Interesting that CBS is touting these upcoming episodes as the last of the season, not the series. I have high doubts that it would return, but hey, weirder things have happened.

I'm sure China dropped supplies because the Cheyenne government nuked Iran and North Korea, and they didn't want the same thing to happen to them. That's why the drop had a message saying that China is your friend.
