LOST -- "the Constant" -- 02.28.2008

desmond-centric episodes are always the best and this one lived up to that. easily the best episode of the season. At least Penny knows that the island exists. the time travel bit was very well done. the love story between dez and penny really put all the other side stories in Lost to shame. their acting between each other is fascinating.

Interesting. Faraday also said that "The future can't be changed", but it seems that at the end, he did in fact change it with that nice note to himself.
Anyhoo, started watching this season after missing the last two. Seems that I didn't actually miss anything at all.

If this episode was a movie unto itself then I would say its brilliant BUT in the context of the entire tv series it was ridiculous. The writers are just fucking with the viewers with no real solution in sight that would be plausible in the end.
First the black smoke monsters then Jacob and now time travel......
This show has officially "jumped the shark", as much as it pains me to admit it.

They really threw me for a loop with the ominous music over the reveal of Daniel's constant. For a minute there I was thinking the implication was that Daniel was up to something nefarious, but it's nice to know that it was just reaffirming Desmond's success.
It saddens me that this show spends so much time on that ridiculous Sawyer-Kate-Jack love triangle shit when the relationships of Jin & Sun and Penelope & Desmond are so much more enjoyable/dramatic/meaningful.

So does it seem possible that everyone gets rescued but most die from not having a constant? They then go into a seizure and die?

Locke would be in trouble.

However, I'm convinced that if he's ever reunited with Penny that they'll swerve us and make her evil too...

This may have been the most bizarre episode of Lost I've ever seen and that's saying something. I have no fucking clue what's going on.
Wasn't there a statement by the producers in S1, that everything could be explained by real science? With everything they've piled up, that will be a real trick.

While watching the show, I was wondering if Desmond's odd behavior in the military as he travelled back in time had anything to do with his court martial and incarceration.

I've been thinking more about the calender on the freighter. It's been tracking the days since the plane crash. Therefore, I think it's not tracking what day it is in the real world but ON THE ISLAND. Given the time shifts we've seen so far, it's the only thing that makes sense, since clearly the freighter is not within the island's zone of temporal influence (man does that sound geeky).

This episode was the weakest of the season, brother. The only thing that saved it was that the guy who plays Desmond is (arguably) the best actor on the show.
It was funny to see Faraday circa 1996. Jeffrey Davies looked NOTHING like that back then (think Spanking the Monkey or Saving Private Ryan).
He's actually a good actor too.
