Faraday is also the person who discovered how to create an electrical current using a magnet and coiled copper wires. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Faraday

Excellent episode. After starting to get pretty bored with flashbacks, this "mixing it up" is certainly returning my enjoyment of them.

So the "rescuers" are part of Dharma and are looking for Ben.

1. When they went to the island, did they know they would find survivors from flight 815? if so, how?

2. Desmond has nothing to do with Dharma/Ben, why did Naomi have his picture and How'd she know who he was?

I LOVE Miles character. he plays a great angry person (as we saw on the Sopranos)

The island serves as some sort of nexus or something where the dimensions meet.
That 5 page Dark Towers theory posted in season 2 is still viable. Hell, it makes more sense now then ever.

Anyone notice that the name of the boat that found the wreckage of 815 was the Christian? Isn't that the name of Jack's father?

Except that the scene with the pilot makes it seem like the crash was staged since they forgot to put the wedding ring on the pilot.

Also, I assumed by Lt. Daniels saying "there were no survivors of 815" adamantly that either here job was to leave them there or to kill them all. Her dying is why we now even have 6 survivors since perhaps the other crew were not aware of that part of the assignment.

I don't know why you'd assume that at all. As shown in the first episode, he appears not to know if there were any other people on the island.

I agree. I think the point they were trying to make there is that the crash site was staged. There is probably an Oceanic and Dharma connection of some sort and the wreckage was planted to deter the search which might lead people to the island by accident.

Ben might know where the freighter was located, since he's former Dharma, and he knows they'll be coming to investigate. So he sends Michael in that direction, of course manipulating him beforehand in some way to get him to play "spy."

Again, just an idea.
And whether they meant to outright tell us last night or not, I'm sure the wreckage they found was planted. And now that they are seeming to suggest the freighter is Dharma, that would seem to idicate Oceanic and Dharma are working together on this....unless, of course, Dharma did the planting, and just told Oceanic they found 815.

Yeah. I think he was trying to emphasize the company's position on the crash. Not neccessarily trying to give her secret orders.

I'm starting to agree.

Don't forget flight attendant Cindy, who was shown last season leading a tour of children past a caged Jack.

Also, wasn't 815 going from Sydney to LAX, but turned around to make an emergency landing in Fiji?

But they found the wreckage in the Sundra Trench, near the far western edge of Indonesia?

That's over 5,000 miles off-course.

Is the pilot that was shown on TV supposedly underwater the same pilot that the monster took at the wreckage with Jack & Kate so long ago?

No, that was Greg Grunberg.

Wait, that *was* Greg Grunberg in the photo on the television, yes? He just had a cheesy porn 'stache.

Why would they have such a dated photo of him?

I'm not 100% on this, maybe a screencap would help.

EDIT - it sure does, and it's him!

I thought the same, that it was Grunberg with porn mustache. That's the same guy from Heroes, right?

Edit: According to http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Seth_Norris, Grunberg and the pilot shown are the same.

It just struck me as weird. First of all, why would she even bring up the point about Oceanic 815 survivors unless there was some idea that they were on the island?

We don't know the timing of the flashbacks. At that point, they may have not found the wreckage yet. Or maybe she thought there might have survivors anyway.

Yeah, they must be flashbacks. This doesn't completely explain why Daniel gets emotional, but Naomi does refer to him as a "headcase" when Deputy Ops Daniels is assembling their team.

I'm starting to buy the alternative timeline theories more and more. Perhaps Dharma knows how to jump between the timelines, either through the island or one of their inventions. It would explain how Richard can appear multiple places at the same age, and possibly Ben as well. They can also construct windows and doorways into the other timeline, which is how they get Locke's dad on the island and can show Juliet a healthy version of her sister.

This is all complete conjecture, but it's fun to play around with and think out.

I think (assumng they have some sort of Dharma connection) they all realized there was a very real possibility that the Oceanic crashed on thie island. But it wasn't something that could be verified since they no longer have a Dharma presence on the island. The only reason they were able to find the island again was because of the Swan destruction.
