Oddities with Direct TV DVR / Recording
Not sure if this is the proper forum for this, so I appologize ahead of time if incorrect, mods!
I have 2 Direct TV DVR-15's and subscribe to the NHL Center Ice Package. I'm a huge Flyers fan (stop throwing things at me!!) and try not to miss a game, which is why the DVR is so valuable to me. However, last night I was unable to record more than half of the available NHL games (including the Flyers' game, which pissed me off), but I was able to watch them!
I called the wife and asked her to record the game for me, and she called me shortly after and said it wouldn't record. Of couse, I figured it was my wife doing something wrong... but it wasn't her at all. When I got home, the game was paused (thank God for the 2 hour pause window!), so I finished watching it. When it was over, I was looking at the guide and some of the NHL channels had the light blue shading, which is usually an indication that you don't receive or subscribe to that channel (ie- Showtime and Cinemax I don't subscribe to; they are the same shade. Every other channel that I'm authorized to get is a normal color in the guide).
Now here's the strange part: When I tune into a movie channel with the light-blue channel in the guide (one I don't subscribe to), I immediately get the "not authorized to recieve" message. If I go to a hockey game in the Center Ice Channels (770 area), I'm able to watch the game, there's no error, but if I hit record, I get the 'you can't do that' beep/noise. Some games didn't have the light-blue channel shading and would record with no problem.
I called D-TV, but they were clueless. Had me restart the receiver, etc, but it's doing it on BOTH DVRs!! The CSR I spoke with tried telling me it's an NHL mandate and the DVR thinks it's a PPV channel. I told him if that's the case why can I WATCH it?! He had no answer to that one, but said he was going to contact the NHL and report it. I'm not holding my breath.
Is anyone else experiencing this or have seen it in the past?

There's several threads over at tivocommunity with similiar NHL recording problems. Apparently, there's some copyright restrictions that may restrict you from recording games. But, it's something that seems pretty random as to who it affects and when.
DirecTV CSRs are clueless? Shocking!

Just wanted to post an update: Everything is back to normal! Over the weekend I was once again able to record my games with no trouble at all.
Strange....
