NIP TUCK - What Shows is it Similar to ?
I have never seen an episode of Nip Tuck. Being perfectly honest, in the early days i thought it was a reality show about plastic surgery
Now like others, i am looking for new shows to discover.
so what is Nip tuck similar to ?

Nip/Tuck is actually rather original.

It's your basic train wreck show. You can't look away even though it's something you don't want to see. There is more bad acting in it than good. The story lines are over the top and no where close to being believable. Even after all that, you will keep coming back and you won't be able to explain why. I really can't think of one show it is like.

It's pretty comparable to some of the Andrew Stevens-Shannon Tweed erotic thrillers from the 1990's for some of it's campiness and sexuality. Medical-wise, I really don't think there is any show it can be compared to.

I think Six Feet Under has some similarities to Nip/Tuck. Now, hear me out.
I watched the first few seasons of Nip/Tuck and enjoyed them but I really didn't enjoy last season. I've tried to get into this new season as I've heard it has improved but I doubt that I will ever be able to "get into it" again.
I bought the SFU box set complete blind and within two weeks time I had finished the 5th and final season. I really enjoyed the show and will definitely visit it again.
In my opinion, SFU is all-around better than Nip/Tuck, from acting to music to realistic storylines - and especially the writing. The similarity that I saw, however, was how each show introduces a patient (or a corpse!) and incorporates them into the overarching storyline. Most of these characters last one episode but their impressions on the main characters may last longer. This may differ slightly from some shows where you have strictly acute "episodic" episodes coupled alongside chronic "storyline" episodes a la The X-Files. I think many of today's series do a better job of blending the two together. My opinion is that SFU streams this better, but similarly, to Nip/Tuck. Does that make any sense?

EDIT: And yes, after the Pilot for Nip/Tuck I was hooked! Have fun!

^ I'm in complete agreement. I've always thought of N/T as a "throwaway" in the sense that you can watch an episode, enjoy it, and move on from there. For me, SFU kept with me a longer time and the storylines, while sort of wild, are much more believable than N/T.
