Finally watched it last night. Not bad. Funny how any vehicle NOT a Ford (the smashed SUV for example) was void of all logos and vehicle name plates.

I just hope they touch more on Jungle Julia's lesbian side-story. :D

Check out the long list of features on the original KITT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KITT
Granted, that was an entire series worth of stuff, but the new one at least could've used a couple of those.

I read somewhere the producers said turbo-boost and jumps would not be a part of this KITTs arsensal.

It's a Ford, maybe it just can't jump.

No, but it can play artist: Michael Bolton.

Well then we'll just have to enjoy this montage of KITT moves:

Ya, but if you watched and enjoyed the original, which was really bad, and you watch this one, which is better, you'd probably like it.

JuryDuty 02-20-08 09:37 AM

I really did enjoy this episode, but I've had a few questions rolling around in my head:

1. Why on earth did the old guy store ALL his files locally on one place so that all anyone had to do was steal his hard drives to destroy the world? I mean, if he can build KITT all by himself, surely he could have come up with a better storage solution.

2. Why on earth didn't the old guy just get into KITT instead of running into the forest? Wouldn't that have solved half his problems? He could have ducked down and they wouldn't have even known he was in there.

3. Why on earth didn't EVERYONE get into KITT at the motel? Even if he was hacked, they could have gotten inside, taken off and then turned him to manual. It would have prevented
Spoiler:
Mike's mother's death anyway.

That doesn't explain how they seemed to be in place before the girl drove there in whatever they're calling Super Pursuit mode this time around. Okay, maybe they flew there in a helicopter the whole way (even though only two of the team were in the chopper).

That doesn't explain how they beat them to the hotel as well, driving that badgeless SUV. Or maybe SUVs just have better speed and fuel economy than the new KITT.

Either way, I side with the minority of posters in this thread. This show was "Knight Rider 2000"-level rubbish

AGuyNamedMike 02-22-08 08:57 AM

I watched KR as a teenager and found it lighthearted, cheesy fun. I rewatched some of it recently and couldn't get back into it. I tried this new one and had to stop and delete it from my DVR after a half-hour. Maybe I'm just too old now?

C-Mart 02-22-08 12:22 PM

I kept waiting for this version!
http://www.codeoneauto.com/frames/im...onvertible.jpg

Alas it was not meant to be.

Personally I like the show and I will watch the series when it airs. I thought the acting was a bit "soapish" and then I looked at IMDB and found out why... the main guy and the main girl both hail from the soap scene.

I loved the car. It was simply amazing... and for once a Mustang won't get trashed in a movie or show (unless the computer gets shut down of course).

And to those who say you can't launch a heavy car... well I submit this:
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HDTBHUlBRSA&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HDTBHUlBRSA&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Definately a heavier car than a mustang and they jumped one every week just like KR. Of course if the suits this time around say that they aren't jumping them, then that sucks... but it can definately be done.

EXACTLY. They should have been at least 20-30 minutes behind.

Snowmaker 02-23-08 08:26 AM

So, was this guy Michael Knight's son BEFORE he was Michael Knight?

IIRC, he was Michael Long before the accident where he was given reconstructive surgery. I think Michael Long had a family, no?

Or am I digging too deep into this?

Well sure, except they were hacking KITT to get the algorithm to crack the Prometheus files. Once KITT was hacked, they'd have had no more need to chase them either...

BTW this re-airs tonight on NBC from 9-11.

I don't think Michael Knight ever revealed to anyone to he use to be Michael Long. There was one KR episode where he saw his old Las Vegas PD partner and was really tempted to reveal who he was, but didn't. Mike Traceur's Mom mentioned that Knight was the 1st driver of KITT and he left them to do his work with FLAG to protect them. I assume he met Mike's Mom shortly after he became Michael Knight.

I think about the same thing as DJariya's post.

It may be semantics, but it really wasn't an accident.

Yeah, welcome to the world of product placement. I'm on a panel where NBC/Universal sends me a survey (sometimes lengthy) about 2-3 times a month. I forget what they call it, but having a commercial that is somehow an extension of the program immediately upon station breaks is geared to have the viewer continue to watch (out of interest in the character). The survey knows I use a DVR. It asks if I watch these "incorporated" commercials. The answer is I do. Interestingly, the commercial is long enough for me to still get a glimpse of it when I press the skip button on my DVR immediately at the break. Since I saw the car and the actor, it made me skip back to watch the commercial. This is their goal.

Of course Ford is a major sponsor. This is essentially a Ford commercial. Like it or not, it's a direct response to increasing DVR's in peoples homes.

Regarding in-show product placement, my wife and I treat it as a game. When we see an obvious product placement, we call out "product placement!"

This is just a sign of the times and is to be expected. I'm not bothered too much by it, either. The sponsors must have their commercials seen. It's how they're paid for. The only other alternatives I see would be to:
  1. Go strictly to pay TV.
  2. Have distracting scrolling ads on your screen during the program.
  3. Disable the skip function on DVRs.

Regarding the movie itself:
  1. Yes, it was cheese. I expected cheese. The original was cheese. But cheese wasn't as cheesy when I was 10. I still like it for nostalgia. However, I don't know how long nostalgia will hold me.
  2. I have a problem with Mike Traceur being a morally reprehensible character. Sure he's heroic in that he's an Army Ranger, but having him in bed with 2 women seems out of place for this type of show.
  3. Having Carrie as a lesbian seems contrived. My conspiracy theory is that she needed to be unobtainable to Mike so there wouldn't be 2 attractive women as potential love interests (Sarah & Carrie).

ANDREMIKE 03-14-08 04:06 PM

did this show get cancelled?

TGM 03-14-08 04:08 PM

I just deleted this thing, unwatched, from my DVR. Just could never get myself in the mood to watch it.

The ratings for the TV movie were very good.

It's very likely getting a series order. NBC is trying to find a showrunner for it.

I think you can watch this on Hulu.com. The last time I checked it was still there. It's 80 minutes without commercials.

I just want to expand on what DJariva said. The only thing that was filmed was the pilot, so it could only be picked up, it would be impossible to cancel it since it wasn't a series yet.

I think it's safe to say that it will get picked up and be on next season.
