I didn't see him last year. Can't imagine him sounding much worse. I admire him for still coming on, though...and ABC for allowing him to.

I'm home watching with my gf, she's sick with the flu so we're home-bums this year. Her father had a massive stroke 20 years ago (he passed away in 2005) so she's extremely sensitive to the presentation and plight of stroke victims. When we watched Dick Clark's first appearance on the show after his stroke a few years back, she was almost in tears.
BUT...
...when the clock struck midnight, and Dick proudly announced "Happy DOO Year!!" she could not stop laughing.
Not for a minute.
I'm not saying she's going to hell for that, but if so I might have to drive the bus...

If Dick Clark wants to continue with this, I'm for it.
With that said, I think it's offensive that ABC feels the need to promote the special with his name. That's just me, perhaps.

And man...I was wondering who the hell the "Jonas Brothers" were. Now I wish I'd never found out. Ugh.

I was watching it too and I was wondering if young kids might be wondering why he talks like that and why he is on TV. For us older folks it is purely nostalgia because it wouldn't seem like New Year's Eve without Dick Clark.
Earlier today I was enjoying a marathon of $100,000 Pyramid episodes on GSN. It is amazing the difference. The poor man never aged for years and years and that stroke suddenly turned him into an old man. It is very sad.

That's why it's particularly painful. Dick Clark always = youth even though he's 40ish years older than me. When he looks old, it makes everyone who grew up watching him feel much older.

Very good points. I'm only 25, but I too have noticed that he never aged...always looked and sounded the name. It makes seeing him like this much worse.

To me Dick Clark looked and sounded much much better than he did last year. Hopefully that trend will continue.

Props to Dick for the progress he made but watching him is still depressing. I don't see him getting much better (witness Kirk Douglass), but I wish him all the best. Perhaps it's time to turn over the reigns to "gulp" Ryan Seacrest.

Well, since I was home last night, let me just say that the coverage for New Year's in HD was pitiful.
The only network broadcasting in HD was ABC and CNN. And, as mentioned in this thread, I really didn't want to ring in the New Year seeing that assclown Seacrest in HD, and over on CNN, they had Anderson Cooper (with Kathy Griffin
) and they kept switching between three different friggin' "screens". And the ball "screen" was in SD!
Happy New Year, indeed.

American Idol was well represented on 2 channels (ABC and Fox). I still don't understand the Miley Cyrus phenomena.
Dick Clark sounded like a crotchety old man at times, and called Ryan "Ron" during some of the cutaways. His eyes looked a lot meaner too, but that's to be expected given his condition.

Dick Clark looked great, listening to him was not so great. He did thankfully have the soft HD lights on him though.
Carson Daly just does not look well at all.
A Cooper and K Griffin were a pretty bad combo, but the high def was a plus.
Who is DJ Cat Deeley (sp?) on Fox, never heard of before... talk about low budget, and it only ran until 12:30. Classic Fox.
