Corner Gas (in Syndication)
Anyone watching this show? When I went back to my hometown a few years ago, CTV did one of those light news stories of how the series was becoming a cult hit and people were visiting the locale in Saskatchewan.
Some of the recent Canadiana references slip by me, but the Participaction Fitness Test reference in one episode brought back memories of grade school gym class.

I've watched many clips from the show on youtube before the show ever aired here in syndication. Don't remember how I first ran into it. The clip below is the first 1:36 of the first episode. Very dry and funny. Probably a good litmus test to see if you'll like the show or not, too.

I was excited when I heard they were airing this here finally. I recorded/watched the first several airings on WGN, then after a few times where it recorded the end of a Cubs game or aired the wrong episode based on the description, I decided just to import the 4 seasons of DVDs that are currently out in Canada instead.
It's all on my Unwatched DVD list now. But I loved the 6-7 episodes I've seen so far.

I started watching Corner Gas on WGN a month or so ago, and I LOVE IT!
It has rapidly climbed up my personal list of great TV shows. Also, I appreciate a show that can be funny without resorting to lots of obscenities and vulgar material.
I've been thinking about picking up the first four seasons on DVD, but I haven't bit the bullet yet.
All of the eps have been great, but "Blog River" has been one of my favorites. I love the following exchange...
Emma: Wait, I also want to not hear about this now. I want to read about this on your... (she searches for the word)
Brent (whispering, to Emma): Blog!
Emma: Yeah, I like that thing!
Oscar: Me too, I love your blob.

I can't stand it. The humor is too dry for me.
I haven't made it past the first few minutes (I try to watch it from time to time after the WGN Scrubs hour is over).

It was a little jarring to see Eric Peterson as crotchedly old Oscar. To Canadians of a certain age, he will alway be Leon Robinovitch of the Cynthia Dale
vehicle Street Legal.

It's got the humor of Seinfeld, but it does those "imaginary sequences" that Scrubs does.
The main difference between those shows, Corner Gas is very Canadian and a majority of the jokes might be lost on the American audience; unless they have lived or know stuff about Canada, however.
(talking about the Railroad crossing) "That's different, the arms go up and down, it goes ding, ding, ding, puts on a good show!" -Oscar
"Street Legal sucks!" -Oscar

This show went off the air in 2009. They released a follow-up movie last month. Apparently it was a kickstarter that had a limited theatrical run then straight to video. I only heard about it a couple days ago and watched it last night. If you're a fan of the series it is definitely worth seeing. Its like a really long episode with all the original cast back.
