Maybe a new writer can get Hiro out of fantasyland and back to reality. That storyline is the weakest of them all this season.

No hard news yet. Word is that John Wells is trying to broker a deal. I would be surprised if it happens tonight, but you never know.

On the other hand, with the SAG and DGA contracts expiring in 2008, it's probably not in the producers' interest to let WGA drag on too long lest they find themselves in a 3-on-1 negotiation.

Which was the original plan until a few weeks ago. Forgot what made them move up their strike plans.

I think the writers probably figure they'll get a better deal if they negotiate now because the 3-on-1 strike would be Armageddon and the producers would, in one sense, have nothing to lose. Also, the producers would try to play each of the unions against each other. By going first, the writers avoid this -- but on the other hand, the producers are probably more willing to play hardball because they don't want to set a bad precedent.

My guess is that they'll either settle this within 2 weeks or just before the actors and directors strike.

the late night shows are going to reruns. they're not even going to try. wimps

But maybe these shows do want to help the writers that way by putting more pressure on the companies.

100% agreement. I used to look forward to the Hiro scenes the most, now I groan when they switch to them. They've dragged that story on for weeks and it's barely budged until last week. Plus those scenes just look way too fake, obvious SoCal to me. Hell, I think I enjoy the WonderTwins scenes more now.

I hope it's not the latter. Letting this drag on into 2008 would be disasterous.

I wonder if the scripts have to pass that sort of scrutiny?
That's how every television show works.
