My Name is Earl -- "Our Other Cops is On!" -- 11-1-07

Another couple more episodes like this and I'm done with the show, what a turd and it was AN HOUR LONG! I expect these types of shows several times a season but this every week crap is for the birds.

It wasn't as bad as that horrible one from a couple of weeks ago. I thought that it was okay, but it definitely wasn't as good as the first Cops episode.

Chew 11-02-07 06:13 AM

Not a good episode, but it had some laughs. Certainly agree the first "Cops" was tons better.

Eh?

I've only seen one other episode this season that sucked. Still a decent good to bad ratio.

I'm not thrilled with gimmick episodes of any show, but I guess the writers can't sustain the jail millieu for too many weeks.

The infrared gag was just groan-inducing. And the terrorist frenzy was unfunny as well.

I do admit to laughing when Randy call their Sikh neighbor a magic genie.

j123vt_99 11-02-07 07:23 AM

OK episode.. They are doing a great job of showing Catalina in a bra/stripper wear each episode.

One thing that surprised me was when Randy (or maybe it was Earl) was wearing the heat sensing camera and they show Joy lying on the couch and show her 'area' giving off heat.. That was one of the more edgy/borderline racy things I have seen in a long time.

DVD Josh 11-02-07 07:38 AM

This is surprising. I thought this episode was easily the best of the season, and even my wife, who usually reads Newsweek during the show, was laughing.

However, I'm starting to wonder if this show is losing direction. When was the last time Earl actually helped someone from his list?

I thought last week.. though it was on his temporary new list he was writing on a pillow.

pinata242 11-02-07 08:19 AM

I hated the first "Cops" episode and to hear this one isn't as good just saved me an hour. Thanks Internet!

He helped Frank's GF last week, but she wasn't on his list. Frank was.

I completely agree. They need to spring him from jail soon. The prison episodes have been pretty good, but these other episodes (dream sequence and this one) are just awful.

TheMadMonk 11-02-07 08:24 AM

This felt more like an episode of Reno 911 to me. But not in a good way.

Groucho 11-02-07 08:25 AM

I noticed part 1 was written by Tim Stack.

cdollaz 11-02-07 08:32 AM

The running Tim Stack gag is played. Time to lose that bit.

CPA-ESQ. 11-02-07 08:36 AM

I like the Tim Stack gag

Loved the "..September Eleventh - 9-11 attacks" "I'm hiding in a cave" and "we'll catch him in a couple of days"

Lateralus 11-02-07 08:58 AM

I knew there should be a thread on this episode. The first two seasons there were some scenes where I would have been embarrased to say I like the show but this season it happens every episode and multiple times at that... it is just getting too stupid.

I did like the cops on the scooter, Tim and Earl on the bumper car drivng home, the "heat" spots but that was pretty much it; Randy is is getting annoying... I hope they kill his character off.

Timber 11-02-07 09:00 AM

Huh, it was an hour? Only got the first half hour and didn't really care for the Cops theme but I didn't like the previous one either.

Jimmy James 11-02-07 06:09 PM

I think what really pulled me out of the episode was the heavy emphasis on 9/11. That really came out of nowhere for me.

Mattrk 11-02-07 09:35 PM

This was a completely tedious hour of the tube, and the first time I've watched Earl and checked my watch every five minutes.

Snowmaker 11-03-07 07:19 AM

I must be in the minority. I really like these COPS episodes.

I was dying laughing at the heat sensor camera glowing red on everyone's genitalia.

nateman 11-03-07 11:15 AM

More hate for Earl I see.

I guess me and Snowmaker are in the minority; I thought this episode was one of the best and I found hilarious!

I don’t usually like when a show overuses a running gag, but the TVs Tim Stack gag works really well and the writers have done an excellent job with it every time. Personally, I think this second “Our Cops” story was much, much better than the first; and I thought the first one was really good as well.

I wish people would remember this show is called My Name is Earl and not Earls List.

“Tim Stack, Tim Stack, Light him on fire and watch him burn to death! Tim Stack, Tim Stack…”

sb5 11-03-07 11:44 AM

I liked the first Cops episode, but this was terrible (and a full hour? Ugh). Sometimes it's better to let a one-off premise for an episode remain a one-off premise, rather than milking it for diminishing returns.

Wasn't the ENTIRE premise of the show Earl trying to appease karma by righting all the wrongs he's committed in his life? At least that's what I thought it was.

I'm not clear why you wouldn't go all out if you're going to do one of these episodes. I thought the X-Files Cops episode was freakin' genius because for the most part it looked like Cops. It was shot on video, it had that hand held camera look. The cops were actors I'd never seen before giving it a very genuine feel. The scenes where the camera pans around (like when they're taking Earl away and you see Joy and Darnell in the window) don't work for me because I don't think I ever saw something like that on Cops.

The episode definitely felt less like Cops and more like Reno 911, minus the humor. There wasn't even enough quality material here for one episode. These shows really expose their faults when they try to stretch out for one hour.

NORML54601 11-03-07 01:55 PM

I thought this was easily the best ep of the season.
