Pushing Daisies -- "Girth" -- 10/31/07

"Girth"
Spoiler:
In this Halloween episode, Emerson and Olive track down "the ghost" who's been killing the jockeys at the old race arena where Olive used to race as a former jockey herself. With help from Ned and Chuck, they try to solve the big mystery.

First Aired: Wednesday October 31, 2007

Howiefan 10-31-07 06:41 AM

Great episode, especially for Halloween night. :)

rfduncan 10-31-07 07:52 AM

Teeny Olive as a jockey. Go figure.

Gunde 10-31-07 02:42 PM

Another wonderful episode

Groucho 10-31-07 02:53 PM

I'm not letting my kids go trick or treating so I can stay in and watch this episode!

movieking 10-31-07 05:18 PM

Great episode, especially since there was so much Kristin Chenoweth in it.

mdc3000 10-31-07 05:43 PM

Excellent episode and KC was just excellent... some very funny lines in this one. You could call the 'who dunnit' a mile away but it was a lot of fun.

tasha99 10-31-07 07:00 PM

Great episode, and I thought this line was hilarious:
Spoiler:
"It only took two years until I could walk up the basement stairs on my own, and only another three until my mama let me." rotfl

MadMark 10-31-07 08:13 PM

Was Ned petting Digby with the guy's arm from last week?

"Jock-Off 2000"

Vipper II 10-31-07 08:56 PM

Man, I absolutely love this show. Chi McBride is freakin' hilarious, and the whole cast just oozes with chemistry.

No doubt. This woman needs her own show. It would totally be about a character played by her, and they could even call it "Kristin".

Wait a minute...

Jadzia 10-31-07 10:33 PM

My favorite Chi McBride moment was when the mother said she buried him with All the Gold, and he started to run to get up and she said "The horse".

Also loved the bit about talking to Olive's money.

mike7162 10-31-07 10:34 PM

Splendid episode. To turn a well worn phrase, if HD hadn't existed before Pushing Daisies, it would have been necessary to invent it. Eye candy to the fullest.

Cellar Door 10-31-07 10:55 PM

No kidding! I am so glad I have an HDTV to watch this on!

Even though there were a lot of really funny bits in this episode, my favorite moment was the scene with Ned and the aunt (Ellen Green) on her porch. Very tender and heartwarming.

My second favorite scene was Olive jumping up and down on her bed and then falling off.

Jeremy517 10-31-07 11:58 PM

"You wouldn't be flashing so much bait if you already had fish in your belly"

So many great things about tonight's ep I don't know where to start.

The previews for the next ep in 2 weeks looks delicious.

 The whole "jock-off" thing; the discrimination Emerson faced at the pub.

My favorite episode of the series yet!! Some great one-liners!

  Chi McBride, Kristen Chenoweth

Snowmaker 11-01-07 06:53 AM

Olive looks WAY hotter with long hair. Her head doesn't look as big.

Chew 11-01-07 07:00 AM

Chi cracks me up.

Yeah, with the short hair, she looks like a Team America marionette.

Kristin was on Craig Ferguson's show the other night with the short hair, and she was looking WAY hot! Maybe I just didn't notice the hair as much because of the very-lowcut mini-dress she had on. YIKES!

Groucho 11-01-07 07:59 AM

So, this is ABC's hottest new show and they're taking it off the air for a week? WHUH?

marty888 11-01-07 08:39 AM

This was the best one yet - and since I was not completely happy with the 2nd and 3rd episodes, I'm really pleased to see this back on track. For me, what grounds the show and keeps it from floating away is Chi McBride.

Toad 11-01-07 08:43 AM

I haven't caught this show in full, but I see zillions of previews for it.

What's it like? Is it a fantasy show?

That skinny blond girl sort of repulses me...who's with me?

That's the worst misspelling of "arouses" that I've ever seen.

She was on Kimmel a couple of weeks ago and looked a lot better than she does on the show.

OMG Chi had so many good lines this week.

Loved Olive jumping on the shovel to open the tomb.

Patman 11-01-07 09:33 AM

Emerson's laughing and chuckling always makes me LOL.

To each his own. She does nothing for me. Maybe less than nothing.

That wasn't really my point though. What's the show about?

boogieman03 11-01-07 11:09 AM

Another great episode. Lots of great lines in this one.

I kept laughing at the work "Jock-Off 2000". :) Yea, I know...

It's about an hour.

It's a fantasy - has to be, based on the premise - but it's well-written, well-acted, well-everything else. If you liked Edward Scissorhands, you'd probably like this.

nateman 11-01-07 11:39 AM

It was cool to see the guy who plays "Matthew" (Hamish Linklater) from The New Adventures of Old Christine on the show.

This episode was great and I liked how they worked the “Halloween” parts into Ned’s story. Those Aunts always crack me up and one of them calling Ned's Father a "Jackass" was pretty funny. The Bartender telling Emerson to get out of the Bar was great and Chi's reactions were classic.

I like all of the characters on the show and although Chi’s character (Emerson) isn’t as well developed as Ned and Chuck; he’s my favorite, he’s the best comic relief guy around.

“I Love you Shovel!” –Emerson

Nth Power 11-01-07 01:55 PM

Chi McBride is so great in this role. I love his remarks whenever he breaks up the lovey-dovey moments between Chuck and Ned.

The only thing I'm sad about is having to wait two weeks for the new episode.

dgmayor 11-01-07 02:00 PM

Well, after the 3rd episode I had posted that I really liked the show but I found the fast paced witty/ironic dialog annoying. Over the past two episodes they cut a lot of that down and I've since have been enjoying the show much much more. I'm also glad they've decided they don't need to explain Ned's abilities in full detail the beginning of each episode now.

Jeremy517 11-01-07 03:46 PM

Here's a theory I saw on another board. I don't think it will end up being the case, but it was an interesting idea:

Spoiler:
Maybe Ned's father had the same power that he has, and at some point very early in Ned's life (before his earliest memory), Ned died and was resurrected by his father. Thus his father sent him away because he couldn't touch him.

It doesn't seem that likely, since Ned's father could have just told him the truth, but I still thought it was interesting.

Spoiler:
has it ever been clarified whether the person/animal that Ned saves/resurrects will ever age from that point on? It seems that Chuck knew Ned's dog from childhood. That dog would have to be 30+ years old now unless it doesn't age

OK, someone's gotta find the clip of KC on Ferguson. I've loved her ever since I saw her as guests on various talk shows, even before the whole "Kristin" debacle.

Prior to this episode, I thought she was cute. After seeing her with the long hair, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. I've been converted. rotfl

Just started watching this show and I LOVE IT!!!!!
