He made it up because HE sent Karen an email and she shot him down.

ha ha, seriously! i'm often amazed at some of the comments about epsidoes/scenes on this board. I could watch that scene 3 million times and NEVER think it was the people in the office backing him up.

Ahh, ok.

I guess I totally forgot about that, or it just never registered when I watched that episode.

So Ryan is 0-for-2 and, assuming Karen was dating Jim at the time, he's 0-for-2 because of Jim.

I agree with the first, but kind of disagree with the second. I'm not disagreeing that the romance is a bit boring, but I actually *like* that it's boring. It seems more realistic to me than the usual tv comedy relationships where people are either constantly in fights or they are involved in 'big' storylines like having a baby or planning a wedding.

Exactly, and it allowed Michael to have that little run where Pam and Jim are saying goodbye and he's making up what they're saying to each other.

Some were arguing last week that Michael purposely drove into the lake to make a point, thus endangering the lives of himself, Dwight, and the camera guy. I think that's out of character, and the moment in this episode where Dwight was threatening the kid with harm being the moment where Michael snapped back into reality underscores to me that he's not that psychopath.

I thought the hostage thing was pretty much in character for Michael, though. The kid committed a sin against sales, and he was giving the kid a time out as punishment. Michael takes sales very seriously.

You are assuming Michael thought driving into the lake is actually endangering anyone. He basically was driving into the water on a ramp into a shallow lake. It's not like he was driving off a bridge or something. Michael is very calm while "escaping" the car which leads me to believe he did this on purpose. It was only after Dwight mentioned the insurance that he realized what he did.

In regards to this weeks episode, I thought the first half was gold (especially the DVD screen saver). The second half had a few funny moments but it wasn't very strong. I kinda wish we could go back to just the normal antics of an office. Take a break from the corporate angle as well as the outside the office things.

I thought the first ep was good, second was brutal and this was the best so far this year...but I think an hour is just too much, thank god there is only 1 more 60min ep until it goes back to half hour.

I completely agree. Their little rooftop scene (a sequel to the "first date" from Season 2) was one of the episode's best moments. I think the writers are handling Jim & Pam's relationship perfectly.

It's not wrong but you might want to invest in this:

Michael's too-tight "hip" shirt was a funny sight gag.

Damfino 10-12-07 02:50 PM

I thought the bit between Angela and Phyllis was the funniest part of the show, especially since Phyllis was deliberately yanking her chain.

FWIW, I attended a "Dealing with difficult people" seminar several years ago and some of the advice was to try and knock the wind out of their sails with polite and courteous responses.

I loved that he had Oscar in there with the women to help judge the shirt, then Oscar's annoyance once he realized why he was in the room.

Another nod for that! No problem with the relationship at all. Well, maybe a little envious of Jim, but that's about it. -smile-

And, yeah, the screensaver was a great bit. Very well done, on all accounts. Same with Phyllis handling Angela.

Luther Heggs 10-12-07 03:34 PM

Anyone else think Angela gets hotter when she gets pissier? No? Just me, then?

re: the "Take a Chance On Me" scene - maybe Snowlarbear was relying on the unforgivably incompetent Closed Captioning for this episode - it identified the a cappella singers as Dwight and Michael! Dwight's line "Cooper's* has calamari" was captioned as "Cooper says calamari" - and so on.

I did mention that she was particularly hot this episode. I just didn't give any reason for it...

Actually, I think you may have won me over with this description. I think it was still bad comedy/storytelling because it was so difficult to tell what angle they were playing, but it does make a certain amount of sense for that to be some sort of ramp into the lake/dock sort of thing. That might be a reason for a road to lead right up to the lake like that.

No. Not just you.

My previous lust for Beesley has now been transferred to Angela now that Pam has shed her "librarian" look.

Rewatching the episode right now and here is the binary. I have no idea what it means:

Here's a binary decoder, but I couldn't get this set of numbers to work as-is...

I find Angela repulsive, mainly for her uptight, shrewish personality.

I can't figure it out. Even by adding padding zeros it doesn't make anything legible.

Numerically it is:
3 15 3 3

Which would be:
ctrl+c ctrl+o ctrl+c ctrl+c

or:
end of text, shift in, end of text, end of text

Jimmy James 10-12-07 08:42 PM

I think it was pretty obvious that he wasn't signing "Jim Halpert".

My guess is that they may have even tried to get him to sign his character name a couple of times but it just didn't look natural (it's darn hard to sign somebody else's name if you ask me).

Actually, I think she gets hotter when she's happy but is vainly trying to keep it from showing, such as just after Andy serenaded her when she was trying to hide the smile.

Roper 10-13-07 05:02 PM

Speaking of drooling over Angela, I was surprised to learn in the season 3 DVD commentary that Angela Kinsey auditioned for this this role in Varsity Blues:

I really don't get why people still think Michael driving into the lake is unbelievable. If you need a real world example of this kind of "stay the course, no matter what" thinking, you need look no further than the President.

Anyone else catch the really quick bit in the cold open where Michael called "colored paper" "collard paper", a throwback to Diversity Day, the second episode of the series.

The best episode so far this season, but still not up to the hilarity that is The Office at it's best. I am not a huge fan of these hourlong episodes and have said quite a bit I think the "supersized" episodes (40-45 minutes) are probably the best balance/compromise. Would probably prefer 22 of those a season over 5 hour long ones and 20 half hour ones!

That being said I love how delicately they are toeing the line with the Andy character. His acapella bit was the highlight of the episode.
