Dancing with the Stars, 10/1-2

Please let Cuban be the one to go... please, please, PLEASE!!!!!

astrochimp 10-01-07 07:40 PM

Wayne Newton is a really nice guy but he is a terrible dancer.Marie Osmond was good.

Goldberg74 10-01-07 08:18 PM

Jenny got dropped!

astrochimp 10-01-07 09:13 PM

I only saw the 1st half of the show but once again Helio and Julianne were fantastic

Red Dog 10-01-07 09:19 PM

It's seemingly a 2-horse race btwn Helio and Cheetos Girl. Can't imagine anyone else winning barring carbon blob shenanigans. I wasn't as impressed with H&J's dance last week as others but this week's dance was very fun to watch.

Sadly I think this will be the last we see of Kym. Can't imagine Cubes pulling in many votes.

Unless they have a really bad week or there's a voting disaster, Helio & Julianne are a lock for finals.

I don't know if Cuban was any good this week or not, thanks to Kym's (lack of) dress

Marie was surprisingly very good.

Jennie was pretty good until the end. I'm afraid she could be in trouble in the near future unless there's a huge 90210 voting block out there.

Cheetah girl wasn't as annoying this week. Hopefully she's permanently dropped the "Cheetah-licious" shtick until she goes back to the Disney Channel. She was the best of the female dancers, but chunky girls should not wear tight red dresses.

Newton was clearly the worst. Hopefully the geezer vote doesn't save him tomorrow night.

Dubya 10-02-07 07:49 AM

I think if it had been another week or two in, Helio and Julianne would have received a 10 for their dance. It deserved a 10.

Hopefully Cubes can hang on another week or two, so we can see more of Kym!

Patman 10-02-07 07:53 AM

Helio and Julianne are just amazing to watch, best 2 mintues of the show.

das Monkey 10-02-07 09:23 AM

Cubes going so early in the show is not good. He danced well enough to stay, but between not having a big fan base, going early, the sympathy for Jennie falling, the sympathy for Wayne being old, and "I'm doing this for my dead grandfather", his odds are long.

Great to see Helio doing so well. I knew he'd be the most likable personality on the show, but I didn't know he could dance too. Just like last season, everything Julianne and her parter do is a joy to watch.

Agree that Helio and Cheetah Girl will/should be in the finals.

Question about the scoring:
Wayne Newton had the lowest judges score last night and Cuban 2nd lowest. What if Cuban gets the lowest number of audience votes and Newton 2nd lowest? Who goes then?

Struz 10-02-07 09:47 AM

Julianne.

The scoring isn't done in ordinals anymore (a serious flaw in early seasons). It's percentage of total score + percentage of total votes. I believe if there's somehow a tie, they still default to the audience, but that's incredibly unlikely.

After two weeks and each dancer having done 1 ballroom and 1 Latin dance, this is how I rank them:

1st tier:
Helio
Sabrina

2nd tier:
Mel B.
Marie

3rd tier:
Albert
Floyd
Jane
Jennie
Cameron

4th tier:
Mark

5th tier:
Wayne

Wayne should be the one to go. I'm afraid he will get hurt. He should go before he really gets nasty comments.

Mark still seems a bit stiff for me even though I can see he's trying so hard and he really is selling it better than even some of the people I ranked higher than him.

I think the stiff posture in the quickstep really suited Floyd better. He moved up in my book. With that said, he's going to have to loosen up a bit. Sometimes he's concentrating so hard on the steps I'm not sure if he's having fun and it shows.

Cameron seems like a head case. Kind of like Ian from a season ago.

Jane Seymour's mom died so she went back to England last night and won't be on tonight's show. It's not sure if she'll even be back...

Tom announced that she is safe in the voting and she will return to the show next week and continue to dance as a tribute to her mother.

astrochimp 10-02-07 09:01 PM

Shocker there.

Patman 10-02-07 09:06 PM

Damn, all those blue-hairs still voting for their guy!

It's official, America hates the pretty people.

magiccmom 10-02-07 09:57 PM

Well, there goes my eye candy!

I was really, really surprised on that one. I thought it would be Floyd or Wayne.

Jadzia 10-02-07 10:26 PM

I have no idea who Albert even was.

I would be enjoying this season more if I knew who more of these "celebrities" were.

You would think with this show being as successful as it is they could get better stars than The Surreal Life.

leeta 10-02-07 10:41 PM

I wasn't really surprised to see Albert go because he kept acting so smug.

Hopefully, Wayne and Cuban will be the next ones to leave.

Wayne Newton isn't a big enough star for you?

Floyd Mayweather is accepted by most as the greatest pound-for-pound boxer on the planet, just this year besting De La Hoya in the biggest PPV fight in history, and is undefeated across a ridiculous 5 different weight classes.

Helio Castroneves won the Indy 500 twice, back-to-back, and is arguably the biggest star in his sport next to Danica Patrick (and Ashley Judd ;)).

Mark Cuban is one of those most influential and recognizable owners in NBA history. He has his own television network, had his own TV show, and is trying to purchase the Chicago Cubs, which would make him one of the most prominent figures in two of the big three.

While sports may not be your thing, comparing these guys to The Surreal Life is crazy talk. These aren't former somebodies, but giants in their respective fields and are currently in the primes of their careers.

And if you say anything bad about Jane Seymour, I will hit you. :D

Good to see the models go first.

Jadzia 10-03-07 01:16 AM

I guess I just don't follow sports, because I hadn't heard of any of those people (except Mark Cuban, although I wouldn't recognize him walking down the street.)

The only people I know this season are Jane Seymour (love her), Marie Osmond, Jennie Garth (although I never watched 90210), and Wayne Newton. Also Scary Spice. The rest are unknown people to me and I consider myself pretty pop-culture savvy.

I do think they should have been able to fill some of those other slots with better known celebs. So far this season is hard to get into since there are so few people I recognize.

Patman 10-03-07 01:32 AM

You have the ESPN side of ABC to blame for having so many sport-related stars in the mix on this show. I doubt many people knew who were Ohno or Laila Ali (besides being the daughter of Muhammed Ali) at the start of last season, but, boy, did they find out throughout the course of season 4. There are a lot more entertainers (on the downslope of their careers) from the TV/movie/model side of things on DwtS, than from the sports side in the past 2-3 seasons.

das Monkey 10-03-07 02:00 AM

Disney has the IRL contract, which explains Helio's presence too. They used the opportunity to promote the show during latter races this season, which is just good marketing.

But I don't mind the sports stars. With the exception of Evander "Real Brain Damage" Holyfield and Clyde "The Stumble" Drexler, they've all been fantastic. The best dancers on the show have all been sports stars, boy/girl band members, or Mario Lopez. Fill the show with people like that, I say, instead of waify models, stiff television hosts, or Master P.

das

Red Dog 10-03-07 08:04 AM

Well that was somewhat surprising, but given that he was probably the least known celebrity, not too big of a surprise.

I'm just thrilled that Kym gets to hang around for at least another week.

As for stars, I always know the athletes more than the young singers/performers they invite on (like Cheetos Girl).

Mok 10-03-07 08:48 AM

They should dump the Cheetos Girl dancing is her job, why do they have to put people with some much experience on the show anyway.

Patman 10-03-07 10:58 AM

Next thing you know, it'll be Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls on season 6.

RocShemp 10-03-07 11:18 AM

The Cheetah Girl is there is cos she's a Disney star. No more no less.

I'm not sad to see the model go cos he's overrated. But Wayne should have been the one to go and THEN the model. I am glad Josie Maran got dropped first, though.

Patman 10-03-07 11:25 AM

I guess Vanessa Hudgens is out for next season, then...

big whoppa 10-04-07 11:47 PM

The cheetah girl's experience with hip-hop dance doesn't necessarily translate into an excellent performance in ballroom dancing. Even Jane Seymour had some ballet experience as a child.

Helio and Juliane were fantastic. That girl brings out the best in her partners and has some fun and original choreography.

The thing with the show is that you see the front-runners from the beginning. It doesn't happen too often that someone who is not a natural dancer pulls out in front. Either Helio or Sabrina will win. If they can improve, Scary Spice, Marie, or Jane might have a shot, albeit a small one. The others are a long shot.

Sweet Baby James 10-15-07 07:18 PM

Hello! Is there anyone out there? Am I the only one that's still watching this season?

magiccmom 10-15-07 08:31 PM

I am! I am! And I am really enjoying this season...after Floyd (whose attitude and dancing I do not like...do you see him on the couch in the back room...he is totally disgusted with his scores) and Cuban, whose personality I must say, I am enjoying, although he probably is the weakest dancer...I enjoy every single performance! Loved, loved, loved the cheetah girls dance this week, and really liked Jenny's and Camerons performances. Marie is sooo funny and charming on the dance floor and Jane is pure elegance. And Helio and Julianne? They always bring it and the choreography is always first rate. It's full of great performances tonight!

magiccmom 10-15-07 08:35 PM

Oh and can we please keep Jenny on for a long time? She has one hot husband!

cmleidi 10-15-07 08:47 PM

Still watching and nothing changes as Carrie Ann is still going after the women. Seymour's dance was wonderful, but Carrie Ann always has to find something to knock down the men. She never marked down the male celebs when they did the lifts. Never thought I'd want to see Samantha Harris in any capacity, but Drew Lachey was obnoxious.
