Anyone watching Back to You?

I thought I'd give this a shot to see what Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton had in them outside their comfort zone. The first two episodes have been pretty solid. They aren't totally opposite of their previous characters, but different enough to not be mistaken for Debra and Frasier.

The whole replacing the dead goldfish plot was a bit out of place and mispronouncing the location newscaster's name is already old, but everything else seems to have promise. The cast seems to work well together and I've gotten some great laughs out of the show. Not to mention you can't go wrong with Fred Willard. I think I'll be sticking with for a while.

reader email to the station:
"Montana should cover the pumpkins"

j123vt_99 09-26-07 09:08 PM

Watched about 15 mins last week and turned it off.. It was pretty bad

Michael Corvin 09-26-07 09:17 PM

The first episode was average but showed promise, IMO. The second episode was better.

kevin75 09-26-07 09:23 PM

i disagree. i thought the first ep was okay but tonight's was horrible.

I want a youtube clip of that.

In what reference was that reader email to station used?

brtcmfn 09-26-07 09:36 PM

I DVR'd the 1st episode after watching have not set another timer- pretty bad

Giantrobo 09-26-07 09:56 PM

Getting ready to watch it right now. Loved last week's ep and looking forward to this week's.

I agree. My wife and I laughed our ass of tonight. Especially

Spoiler:
the whole tazer scene

I will still keep watching it.

Tracer Bullet 09-26-07 10:16 PM

Just finished the second episode. Laughed once (mildly). I'm out.

+1

I am done with this show. I am getting back into 'Till Death though - I only watched the pilot in season 1, but the first two episodes of season two were quite good.

Giantrobo 09-26-07 11:51 PM

Another funny ep.

Montana is the name of the well endowed weather girl who wears outfits to show off her cleavage.

the letter read, "Montana should cover the pumpkins" Everyone looks at her as she slowly zips up her top covering her cleavage, upon which the station manager reveals the email was in regards to the actual pumpkins this Haloween. She then proceeds to slowly unzip her top.

Not exactly high brow, but it was good for a laugh.

Quake1028 09-27-07 01:02 AM

I thought tonight's episode was pretty funny, better than last week.

It was a station staff meeting, and they were running down the various news stories for the day, and it was Patricia Heaton's character who said "Montana should cover the pumpkin festival."
There was no reader(?) -perhaps you meant viewer, email involved.

sven 09-27-07 04:47 AM

I'm liking it so far.

Chew 09-27-07 06:23 AM

I haven't seen last night's yet, but I plan on giving this show a wide berth given the talent involved (in front and behind the camera).

Definitely! Grammer and Heaton, and the entire fish story.
Didn't care for the taser part -- until the after-effects were shown during the outtro. :D

To kill the time, also started up watching again Til Death. Some of the people behind The King of Queens also work on this show, so I do get a KoQ vibe...but the leads on this one aren't quite as funny as Kevin James & Leah Remini, and the writing and supporting cast not as sharp. Still feels a bit forced.

:) Thanks for the corrections.

I like Til Death and think it's better than many other choices of shows that are out there. I think the two episodes this season started off strong but I really don't like Eddie Kaye Thomas' wife, whoever she is.

I thought Back to You was OK again, and agree with a previous post that the mispronouncing of the reporters name is already old. Didn't find the taser scene funny at all.

derekjet 09-27-07 08:02 AM

this show wont last the season

mdc3000 09-27-07 08:19 AM

I liked it last night as well. Fred Willard's ring tone was pretty funny. I'll keep watching.

Kat Foster.

I like her on the show.

It's on Fox so you probably are correct.

I thought this episode of "Back to You" was just okay, but I agree with you about Til Death - I thought last weeks and this weeks were pretty funny and I wish I had seen more than the 2 episodes I watched of Season 1. I think the combination of the 2 shows will keep them both on the air all season.

madcougar 09-27-07 12:32 PM

After watching the first two episodes, I think I'm going to bail on Back to You. The entire premise with the kid is - I don't know - uninteresting to me?

Vipper II 09-27-07 07:20 PM

Wow, the second episode was a hell of an improvement over the pilot; it's earned at least a few more weeks' worth of space on the DVR.

movieking 09-28-07 07:53 AM

I thought that the first episode was ok, but the second one was pretty bad.

Patman 09-28-07 08:27 AM

When you center an episode around magic tricks and dead goldfish, I can't be too optimistic about the show's longevity. But the tasering and the ringtones were funny.

I don't know about that. It will definitely make it to January when FOX will have to bump it for American Idol. I mean it IS a Steven Levitan show (Stacked, Just Shoot Me) so it has a pedigree (especially consider FOX let Stacked LIMP into a second season before axing it). Besides FOX has to have something to put with 'Til Death until January.

As for me, it IS a Steven Levitan ensemble show. It is very Just Shoot Me-ish which used to be fine, but the premise of the show has already worn thin for me. It needs more Newsradio in lieu of meterologists with huge tits. I'll watch a few more, but I don't expect much.

nateman 09-30-07 08:24 AM

For me anyway, I thought the “Pilot” episode was stronger than the second episode, “Fish Story”. I recorded it & besides fast forwarding the commercials, I almost (but didn’t) fastfowarded some of the show, it really wasn’t that funny or terrible interesting. The entire ‘Fish’ gag went on way too long & wasn’t that funny to start with.

I’m going to stick with it still but not impressed with the second episode at all. Hopefully it’s just an uneven started & within the next couple of episodes it improves.

It’ll be cancelled, guaranteed. The show had an approximate 2 million viewer drop from the ‘pilot’ & I don’t see the show gaining any viewing, just continue losing em’.

DJariya 09-30-07 01:40 PM

I have watched episode 2 yet, but my DVR decided to re-boot itself during it and 7 minutes are cut out. I guess I'll catch it online when I can.....doubtful though.

Buttmunker 10-11-07 10:24 AM

i watched it for the first time last night, and I was laughing, so I guess it's good. Bill Macy was there as an intern...funny stuff!

Michael Corvin 10-11-07 10:45 AM

My daughter bumped a cable loose last night, unbeknownst to me so I missed last night's.

mrpayroll 10-11-07 11:04 AM

Last nights episode was a good one.

I don't care what most people say, this show is a cut above most other comedies on the air. It's no The Office or (earlier) Scrubs, but it's better than most other situational comedies with a live studio audience / laugh track.

Chris

Groucho 10-11-07 11:07 AM

Last night's episode was missing the guy from Dawn of the Dead, and suffered as a result. He's the best part of the show!

Was he the on the scene reporter from last weeks show that had a chance to anchor the news?

Chris

Groucho 10-11-07 11:36 AM

Yeah, the guy with the unpronounceable name.

Giantrobo 10-11-07 08:51 PM

Shit, I missed it last night. Can I see it on Fox's site?

Brent_MN 10-11-07 10:07 PM

yeah...it should be up today or tomorrow
