I really want to like this show. I made it through last season and enjoyed it overall. But there is just too much going on in each episode. I think this show would be improved greatly if it centered around only two or three characters per episode instead of jumping around so much. Some of the archs are just a chore to sit through when you're waiting for it to get back to one you find interesting.

I enjoyed it, knowing the episode was just set up for this season's story. No Nikki? No problem.

Yeah, I thought that was silly, too. I'm surprised the producers didn't make her wear glasses so she would be Hollywood Ugly.

I understand they're needing to set up this season's storyline, but the reality is that for the average Joe who is watching this on a week by week basis, this episode was just way too slow. This is on top of what I found to be a very disappointing season finale last May.

As a general rule I usually DVR shows and watch them later. I recently purchased a HDTV and wanted to watch this live on it obviously (my DVR is connected to the family TV - no HD). I figured it wasn't a good thing that I was getting frustrated and wanted to keep fast forwarding through the episode but couldn't.

I really (REALLY) was digging this show until the finale last season. I hope things pick up soon.

I just want them to have the balls to kill off a main character or three.

One other thing - how does Bennett afford a single-family home in Santa Clara, CA as a staffer in Copy Kingdom? Sounds like a minimum wage job and yet he bought Claire a new car?

But that's just not what the show is. The show is comic book paced which has slow building arcs. I really hope they don't change the style of the show for the average Joe. Us comic nerds are used to this type of pacing and it should eventually pay off just like last season.

I'm really hoping that Sylar is playing the Magneto role this season and sticks in the back round just making cameos until he comes back badass next season. Again probably something that wouldn't happen because the average Joe probably wouldn't go for him not playing a large role this season.s

I think we won't see much of Sylar due to conflicts with the new Star Trek movie.

We must be reading different comics. Mine have tights, fights, and general heroic action. Reading different comics boards through the years lots of fans will drop a book if it has 2-3 dead issues. Seems like the same effect here.

Plus the new Nissan Rogue is amazingly affordable for such a powerful, fun vehicle. Come discover a new way to play. Game on!

Recall that all of last year's "Volume 1" was one issue of 9th Wonder.

Which leads to another question - that dude said the Mohdiner's father's book was in bookstores next to alien abduction books. So why would it have been published in multiple languages? I realize he was kidding, but the book obviously didn't change the world or anything.

Well Claude (Christopher Eccleston) certainly was one. Is he still alive? Also was the Haitian one of them too?

Think of what a chore they would be to sit through if there were less characters, meaning more screen time for everyone. The many characters is a strength since, even if you don't like one or two of them, they don't really hog the screen time.

Probably not too much of a spoiler, but this is not entirely correct:

Spoiler:
Quinto will be leaving after ep. 16 and return in the finale

Are you sure about Claude? I thought he just worked for the company and I certainly had the impression that the company and & Linderman, et al don't exactly see eye-to-eye.

I don't think Claude was one of the "originals" (or whatever they're called). But it's possible that the unnamed person he was protecting was.

I'm not sure about that. Claude worked for "The Company". To me, that doesn't necessarily translate into him being a part of this group of 14. Rather, I think whoever owns/runs "The Company" is either one or a handful of the original 14. For example, Linderman was 1/14, but they broke up and he started his own efforts. I think Claude/Hatian/others are just workers/associates.

How so? Marty Mcfly was never supposed to go back to the past and he wasn't supposed to change history.

I'm of the opinion that it was always Hiro's destiny to go back in time to make, rather than change, history. It's pretty obvious that he is (and always has been) the heroic, legendary Takezo Kensei. Yatta, Yatta!

On the quality of the episode, I mostly loved it. My random thoughts on upcoming storylines:

Peter: Will fall into a bad crowd for several episodes until he recovers his memory. From the title of episode eight, my guess is Peter will return to normal then.

Nathan: The two face effect is really odd. Hope he shaves the crazyman beard for his mother's funeral.

Matt Parkman: Will be accused of child molestation by the girl's teacher. Will astound his fellow NYC cops with his uncanny "detecting" ability.

Claire Bennet: Will befriend flying boy with her secret. Flying Boy will be working with the company. Will continue to break several limbs based on the stupidity of teenage life.

Mr. Muggles: Will lick his butt some more before licking Mrs. Bennet's lips.

Mysterious Hooded Man: Will continue to kill the Nine with his awesome power of pushism.

My impression is that Hiro's meddling inadvertently changed history (Kensei doesn't defeat the bandits, and in turn doesn't save the village or get the girl). Similar to how Marty inadvertently prevented his parents from meeting.

I actually thought that the scenes with Hiro were the least interesting last night. I'm kind of tired of the whole Kensai thing. I thought last season's "search for the sword" was one of the least interesting storylines.

By the way, what was the deal with the kid flying? Are they already out of power ideas?

The hired fighter playing Kensei wasn't going to defeat the bandits. He was about to get sliced up by three arrows. And I really doubt the drunk Englishman was going to take up the fight.

Hiro's meddling didn't change anything that wasn't going to happen anyway.

Hiro was always going to be Kensei. He grew up with the story, so he knows everything he has to do. He had to get Kensei's sword to unlock his own power because, well, Kensei needs Kensei's sword.

It's a paradox. He can't be Kensei without knowing about Kensei and he can't know about Kensei unless he is Kensei.

I thought it was rather "blah" for a season premiere. Nothing stood out that really "grabbed" me and gave me that "can't wait to see what happens next" feeling that I got with so many episodes last season.

I think the best "surprise" was seeing the effect Peter's "death" had on Nathan.
