Talk Tivo On My T.V.

I am new here. My question is. I purchased a tivo player from Direct TV for $99.00 it is a SAMSUNG DIRECTV DVR with TiVo and now I don't have cable or satellite. Can I still use my player on just a regular tv antenna?

I may be wrong because I've only had stand alone players but I don't think you can.

Why not?? I purchased it from Direct TV and it belongs to me. Is it because it is affiliated with Direct TV??

I'm confused. Did you buy this before when you had DirecTV? The reason you can't use it w/o DirecTV service is because it sends a signal to activate the box. Without the box being activated, it has no functionality. I think you might still be able to watch previously recorded shows, but outside of that, it's a $100 brick.

DirecTivos are designed to decode only the digital stream from DirecTV. They will not be able to handle cable or OTA information. As stated above, you can watch the shows already recorded on it, but other than that, it's useless. Sell it to someone that still has DirecTV and needs an additional room setup.
