24 is finally moving away from LA and CTU!!

Trying to recover from both a critical and ratings dive this past season, FOX's serial thriller series "24" is shaking up its formula - albeit only a little.

According to TV Guide, women seem to be the order of the day with both a female U.S. President, and a major role being a female FBI agent.

More importantly, the action is FINALLY moving away from both CTU and Los Angeles with New York, Washington D.C. and London under consideration for new locales to set the story.

DVD Josh 06-25-07 01:40 PM

The female president is most likely going to be Karen Hughes.

So Keifer is back to being a supporting character...the weakest aspect of season 6. not good.

Birrman54 06-25-07 01:40 PM

Didn't they say they were moving out of LA last season?

And I couldn't possibly care less about a female president. The whole political intrigue blah blah blah has been done over and over again.

auto 06-25-07 01:43 PM

Just sent a request to the mods to spoilerize the thread title. Some people are not going to want advance info on next season.

movieking 06-25-07 01:46 PM

I don't care about a female president, but I doubt very much it would be Karen. Wasn't Karen fired (and rehired) in her role last season? Wouldn't this put a damper on her political career, as would having a husband that was responsible for the mess at CTU, as well as helping Jack save his nephew when he shouldn't have?

Dubya 06-25-07 02:04 PM

As someone who bailed on the show early into last season, I admit I would be intrigued by a London setting if they actually filmed it there. I seriously doubt they will though as the logistics of setting that up would probably take awhile and they start shooting next month. I would bet on it being set in D.C.

What makes you think that any of that is public knowledge?

starseed1981 06-25-07 02:35 PM

I could care less if the president was male / female / martian or english bulldog...as long as he's better than Woodside. And honestly, I wouldn't mind if they ditched the presidental angle along with the CTU one.

To some extent they did. There was some "action" in DC/the presidential bunker.

Hear Hear! I know the camera can't be on Jack the whole time, but there has to be a new plot thread they can use. Why not set it in Washington and have the "political" stuff be done in the Pentagon or something.

Jadzia 06-25-07 03:13 PM

Female president? Then knowing this show she will be dirty and/or incompetent.

Since the American public in the 24universe have a thing for all people named Palmer, maybe they should make Sherry the Prez? I am sure this show would love to skewer Hillary in time for the primaries.

areacode212 06-25-07 03:20 PM

Argh, no more Presidents, please!! I'm glad that they're ditching LA and CTU, but the Presidential subplots are just as tired.

Sherry? That would be interesting. I think you mean Sandra.

I suggest Audrey Raines. She's already in a coma/comatose state so it cuts out the bullshit from hour 1. No need to explain how she was elected(sympathy vote), they didn't bother with Wayne so why start now?

uteotw 06-25-07 03:46 PM

Blech. This sounds dreadful.

A female president is part of their big plan to completely revamp the show? I would way rather them keep CTU and end the "presidential intrigue" nonsense.

Ugh.

hardercore 06-25-07 04:38 PM

Blech, ugh, I like it. Whatever they can to make this show less tired.

DrRingDing 06-25-07 04:44 PM

Speculation about the female President possibilities
Spoiler:
is useless as it has been announced that Chloe is the only other returning character from this season... Although, I suspect that we'll see a few familiar faces show up before the end of the season though.

Didn't Wayne Palmer make one screw up after another as David Palmer's Chief Of Staff? That didn't stop him.

Moving out of LA is a good idea but I can't imagine it would make the show that different or address the sameness that has creeped into the series over the year. No way they shoot an entire season in London -- if anything that's a location for the movie.

TGM 06-25-07 04:59 PM

Sigourney Weaver!

DJariya 06-25-07 05:01 PM

Shooting a season in the east coast seems alot more realistic than London. Although I think there is a small possibility they could send a 2nd unit team to London to shoot some scenes....but the Real Time aspect makes this unlikely. I know Prison Break shoots mostly in Dallas and a 2nd Unit team shoots in Louisiana and Florida.

Jimmy James 06-25-07 05:07 PM

I'd like them to do something a little different and base the show in Minneapolis or St. Louis. Even Chicago could work.

Anubis2005X 06-25-07 05:56 PM

I was a huge fan of this show until Season 6. Now i've pretty much lost all interest...it was THAT bad...here's hoping they make some positive changes.

lvbob 06-25-07 08:08 PM

may be kim as the prez.
could the cougar be her running mate :)

HE Pennypacker 06-25-07 08:44 PM

About damn time.

I believe it is Hayes

Merkin Muffley 06-25-07 10:01 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce the next President of the United States...

asianflow 06-26-07 12:05 AM

I have a feeling most viewers are sick of the President storylines. Without seeing the script, I'm sure the viewer will be lead to believe she is working with the bad guys or is in over her head. This would just be a rehash of season 5 and 6 President storylines.

I would like to see the President be a minor character next season unless the producers have something original.

SuperBatMan 06-26-07 12:18 AM

Hopefully they move away from terrorists.

gatoinfeliz 06-26-07 01:54 AM

Off topic: Did Mandy the bisexual terrorist die? I have the season sets but haven't seen most of the 3rd season yet.

TheMovieman 06-26-07 02:11 AM

Geena Davis. At least then they can have an Emmy winner who played the President. Sure, not for 24, but still...

Nope, Mandy lives!

Vipper II 06-26-07 06:31 AM

I wouldn't mind the show featuring the President yet again if the writers make "her" a competent one, who DOESN'T have an "agenda", and who DOESN'T have a staff filled with traitors and back stabbers. Just give us a decent person.

And if it IS Karen Hayes, I'm going to have a huge problem. Frankly, I'm a little sick of looking the other way when 24's writers do something totally absurd just because they weren't creative enough to think of something more reasonable.

areacode212 06-26-07 06:38 AM

I don't see it being Karen Hayes, since the deal they took at the end was "if you retire with Bill, you don't get charged with treason".

24 and plausibility haven't really gone together all that well in the last few seasons, so I definitely wouldn't put it past the writers to bring Hayes back.

Doughboy 06-26-07 07:51 AM

How many damn Presidents is this show gonna go through?! And are they gonna flash-forward another 4 years to explain why there's a new President in office(unless she's replacing Palmer V.2 and Daniels)? If so, Jack's gonna be in his 50's.

24 needs to seriously ditch the President storyline. It was ok when it was David Palmer since he was such an integral part of Season 1's storyline and it would've been a mistake to let him go, but now it's every bit as cliched as the CTU antics.

And count me as skeptical about this whole thing. They sold everyone the same line of BS heading into Season 6. Remember the New York rumors and how the entire season was supposed to be about Jack saving his own ass? Neither of those panned out.

That's sort of the central tenet of 24.

Oh snap! Not to go off topics again, but they need to bring her back asap.

rennervision 06-26-07 10:58 AM

I thought Defense Secretary Heller would have been a much more logical choice for President in season 6 than Wayne Palmer.

slop101 06-26-07 11:16 AM

I think the mountain lion from season 2 should at least be vice-president.

Shannon Nutt 06-26-07 11:36 AM

I think they might get Glenn Close. She'd be great at it (see AIR FORCE ONE), and she's not opposed to doing TV series.
