Really w/ only 2.83 million? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't 2.83 million a scary number for the WB a couple years ago? (inso much as for a show's chances of renewal). |
I believe it was their most-watched Monday in their key demos, i.e. females 34 and younger.

I'm worried about Shark's return next week at the Tuesday at 10pm timeslot. It's got 4 new episodes to prove it deserves a 3rd season, but it's got a tough timeslot against Boston legal and SVU. CBS has already stated that it's on the bubble and I think if it finishes under 10M viewers and 3rd every week, it's as good as dead.

I know it was a rerun on Tuesday, but I think even repeats of Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives (which don't repeat well) get that much on a Friday night... I can't see how Shark can get more than 10m viewers next week. I'm thinking it'll probably get 8m.
Problem is the lineup. Does it make any sense to first have crime drama NCIS (which does very well even against American Idol) followed by reality TV program Big Brother which leads into drama Shark? Makes no sense. Big Brother consistently loses a chunk of the NCIS lead-in and by the time 10pm comes around, whatever is there has little chance of getting viewers back. |

I think the original intention was to have Shark at 9pm following NCIS. However, since the crapfest Secret Talents of the Stars was canned, they decided to move Shark to 10pm to fill the timeslot and put re-runs of The Unit at 9pm as the lead-in. IMO, they should have done the opposite put The Unit re-runs at 10pm instead.......the episodes are bought and paid for and they have nothing to lose putting them there.
Shark has lots to lose and putting re-runs of another show on the bubble doesn't help matters. |
I agree. I don't watch the show that much myself (since it had moved to Sundays) but I have liked the episodes I've seen so far. Hopefully a miracle happens because I think that's what it's going to take, but given CBS's tendecies, I doubt it'll make it unless it gets 10m+ viewers for those last 4 episodes.

Pretty much everything is down from last year. Looking through my archive numbers from around March/April of 07, a rerun of "CSI: Miami" pulled in about the same number of viewers (13m) as a new episode this year (new eps were averaging around 17-18m viewers).
There are a few still on the mark like Dancing with the Stars and NCIS, but it seems a number of these shows (especially scripted ones) have been effected by the strike. In regards to American Idol, I just wonder if people just don't care about ANY of the contestants this season. The show started off strong and on par with previous years but has gradually gone down since. IIRC, I don't think it's hit anywhere near the 30m mark with the top 7. |
Part of American Idol's problem is due to the lackluster contestants, but most shows just start going down in ratings after the fifth season. So AI is actually holding conventional form in that regard. It reached its peak two years ago and I don't think anything will bring in the 30 million+ viewers anymore. People are bored with it in general.

Moonlight did 7.99 million Friday, with the shows before/after it both doing more than 9 million. It did win its time slot, but against poor competition (the first half of Dateline, Duel, the last half of a movie on FOX, and the last half of Smackdown0.

Usually the "12-year old girl" vote can't sustain people this deep into the show (see: Sanjaya), but somehow this years voting is still ridiculous. |
