Considering how disgusted most people seemed to be over the Sopranos finale, I'd wager most viewers didn't stick around for this. And half of them are probably going to cancel their HBO subs.

What a HORRIBLE pilot. Mr. Milch, you're no David Lynch - so stop with the weird dialogue (evident in Season 3 of Deadwood and even more evident here) and quirky characters.

I'm convinced that HBO deliberately sabotaged the ending of THE SOPRANOS in an unsuccessful attempt to distract the audience from noticing the foul stench arising from JOHN IN CINCINNATI.
As someone pointed out, the excessive profanity (enough to make Al Swearengen blush) just called attention to itself after a while rather than serving the plot. Evidently Junkie Yost only has about 3 words in his vocabulary besides the F-Bomb. Pointless.
I'm also convinced that the title character is a reincarnation of Dr. Johnny Fever...just now re-emerging to protest the butchering of the soundtrack to the WKRP in Cincinnati DVD release. Comin' to getcha, babeeezzz!!!

Well, this back to back with The Sopranos made for one of the most infuriating nights of TV I've ever witnessed... (if it wasn't for The Loop I'd have gone to bed pissed off)... This show was a fucked up mess IMO. I'll give it a few more chances, but honestly, I've never missed Deadwood as much as I did last night... wtf.

Either I have a very sick mind or a real newspaper review actually compared this show to accidentally shitting yourself while taking a bath.

Haven't seen the first episode, but I already promised my wife I'd watch two before I gave up on it. I guess that's 120 minutes of my life I know I'll regret and never get back.

I watched the episode this morning. Then I called my cable company and cancelled HBO. Each Sunday evening, I'll say "fuck....fuck ....fuck...." to my self several times, which is a much cheaper way to hear about half the dialogue from this mess.

I grew up surfing in a lot of the same spots depicted in the show (actually, a little further south), and they nailed the feel of the area and scene. But the rest of the show.... well, I'll have to see how it plays out.

Decided to skip this as I pondered what had happened on The Sopranos, but I'll catch this On Demand at some point to give it a try...

Well, as an introduction to the world of this disjointed family, I have to say I was intrigued enough to give it a chance. The acting, music and visuals were all top-notch in my opinion, although I do agree that John's parrotting needs to ease up as he gets more comfortable with his surroundings.
I was a huge fan of Six Feet Under after I came to the understanding that the family was coming from an entirely different place then I was familiar with. I think it's the same here, so I want to see where they go with it.

They did indeed nail the feel of the town and the people.
As for the rest, I am willing to see how it develops. This could be great, or horribly bad.

FYI, the screener copies had the first 3 episodes. On the TV Guide podcast their reviewer said he was waiting to see how it developed after the first episode but it didn't happen in the 3 he saw. They joked about "maybe it all comes together in episode 4".
