Me too! I was having to record it to DVD or catch it online. That was getting tiresome!

A few things, since I wrote the article posted on the first page and it's a tiny bit out of date:

- I don't actually know anything, it's all speculation. So while One Tree Hill/Supernatural are officially returning, we know nothing for sure of their timeslots. Both will certainly be moving (Gossip Girl is a lock for the post-ANTM slot), but their locations are still unsure as of this time.
- With a majority of word going against Veronica Mars, I've bumped it off the schedule...but there is hope. There is a rumour they'll give the show a month to write and perhaps shoot an FBI pilot, and then make a final decision. In the meantime, they could slot Beauty & the Geek into the Tuesday night spot with little trouble and renege in a month's time should Veronica come out well.

Glad Supernatural is returning. I was sort of bummed about its new timeslot until I realized that I have never watched it live. So I guess it doesn't matter when it's on.

FATE OF 'JIM,' 'APPRENTICE,' 'MARS' TO COME AFTER UPFRONTS
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- "According to Jim," ABC's current longest running scripted series, may very well live on.

Both the L.A. Times and The Hollywood Reporter have indicated talks are underway to bring back the veteran comedy despite its absence from the network's 2007-2008 lineup.

Longtime readers may recall similar scenarios with CBS' "Yes, Dear" back in 2004 (read the original upfront release) and "Becker" in 2003 (read the original upfront release). Neither series was present on the Eye's schedule at that year's upfront only to later earn reprieves.

Earlier this week, NBC confirmed the future of "The Apprentice" likewise wouldn't be decided until after the upfronts - June 1 to be exact. The date was mentioned in The New York Daily News' report yesterday about the news, which goes on to say executive producer Donald Trump and company will begin shopping the series elsewhere on said date.

And finally as if there wasn't enough post-upfront drama to unfold in the coming weeks, TV Guide columnist Michael Ausiello indicated this morning the CW may wait until June 15 to reach a verdict on its cult drama "Veronica Mars."

"The extra time would allow [creator] Rob Thomas to produce an actual script for ["Veronica Mars"] in the FBI," he said, referring to the show's potential revamp as an FBI-based pseudo-procedural. For now, "Mars" isn't expected to be on the netlet's 2007-2008 schedule, due to be announced tomorrow.

they're really just screwing with the Veronica Mars fans now, right?

CW announces fall schedule
Network adds six new series
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDERA year after launching with a safe schedule of mostly returning shows, the CW is hoping to make its mark this year by adding six new series to its lineup.
Heading into the weblet's second season, CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff said she was looking for shows that would help brand the fledgling operation.

"Our new shows have attitude and a sense of fun, and they're going to define this network," said Ostroff.

As expected (Daily Variety, May 17), the net will take advantage of its two reality hits to premiere two new dramas that could become signature shows for the weblet: "Reaper" and "Gossip Girl." A third new drama, "Life is Wild," will slide into "7th Heaven's" former Sunday home, keeping the 8 p.m. hour family-friendly.

Net will also keep Thursday and Friday intact.

"With established shows anchoring four nights and providing a launch pad for new programs, we will also have stability on our successful Thursday and Friday lineups," Ostroff said. "Shows that can be enjoyed by the whole family will air on Mondays and Sundays in the 8:00-9:00 hour, with the 7:00-8:00 hour on Sunday providing an innovative showcase for both viewers and advertisers."
no menton yet.

I still think if Rob Thomas writes a killer script and does indeed produce a VMars: FBI pilot that kicks, it may have a shot at mid-season...

I'll miss Veronica Mars if it's indeed cancelled but I'm glad to see that Supernatural will be coming back.

The CW cancels `Veronica Mars'

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer 23 minutes ago

NEW YORK - The CW network canceled the cult hit "Veronica Mars" and will try to pick up steam in its second year with series about the snobby rich, transplanted families and a bounty hunter for the devil.

The network, created out of the ashes of the former WB and UPN, had already ended the long-running family dramas "7th Heaven" and "Gilmore Girls." On Thursday the ax fell on "Veronica Mars," which starred
Kristen Bell as a wisecracking teenage private eye.

Corporate parents CBS Corp. and Time Warner Inc. had hoped the CW could become a fifth major network by combining the best of its predecessors, but it has often slipped behind Univision in the ratings during a disappointing first year.

The new "Gossip Girl," about a group of prep school teenagers in Manhattan, will be given the biggest push. The CW scheduled it for Wednesdays at 9 p.m. after its top-rated program, "America's Next Top Model."

The CW's only new comedy, "Aliens in America," is about a high school student trying to adjust to a Pakistani exchange student. "Life is Wild" is a drama about a New York City family spending a year at a game reserve in South Africa.

The new drama "Reaper" features one of the CW's oldest new characters: a 21-year-old. His parents sold his soul to the devil and he's assigned to track down evil escapees from hell.

On Sunday nights, the network will debut "The CW Now," an entertainment-oriented newsmagazine for 18-to-34-year-olds. "Online Nation" will talk about what's hot on the Web.

In midseason, the CW will bring on a reality show, "Farmer Wants a Wife," about a country guy choosing among 10 women fed up with big-city prospects.

Fox will also release its fall schedule on Thursday.

Red Dog 05-17-07 11:38 AM

Gossip Girl is the Josh Schwartz show, right? Sounds like a NYC version of 90210.

FantasticVSDoom 05-17-07 11:48 AM

Wow, I mean I know VM never got good ratings and held on for as long as it could, there is nothing appealing sounding about any of those new shows... Oh well, I dont really see the CW lasting much longer.

MrX 05-17-07 12:01 PM

From Ausiello's blog at the CW press conference

12:28 First question, asked by me: "Is Veronica dead?"

12;29 OK, here it is in a nutshell, per dawn ostroff. Veronica Mars is dead. But, and there is a but, she says she's "talking to Rob and Kristen" about doing something else. She's not calling it a spin-off, and wouldn't say whether it would feature the character of Veronica. Translation; I'm as confused as ever!

12:33 I will try and get more clarification on this. Please stand by...

12:36 OK, a reporter just asked a VM follow-up — and Dawn continues to dodge. She says they're discussing "an idea," but adds, "I don't think it's going to happen."

12;47 The press conference is over. I tackle dawn just as she tries to escape and I ask her to level with me. Is Veronica dead? "Veronica Mars is over, but we're talking about something else. I don't know if it's going to be anything. I'm being honest with you. It could come back in some form, but I don't know what form that would be." She confirmed that the deadline to make a decision is "somewhere around" the June 15 date i referred to previously. Long story short: mystery still not solved!

Looks like Smallville will be the only CW show I'll be watching in the fall. I don't know if Kristen Bell narrating is enough to get me to watch Gossip Girl. Not unless Josh Schwartz can recapture his O.C. Season 1 mojo.

Interesting that One Tree Hill is scheduled to premiere at midseason. I wonder if it's an abbreviated season for the show.

well, with Veronica cancelled now I could see them running with the proposed new show with the same players. current fans would recognize the show as Veronica Mars 2.0 while new viewers might want to watch this "new" show.

critterdvd 05-17-07 12:29 PM

At this point in time I wish the CW would just let Veronica Mars RIP (and hopefully the show doesn't end on a cliffhanger)...

I'm saddened that OTH won't be around till midseason, but at this point I'm glad its coming back at all.

All three new Dramas seem interesting and I'll give them a watch, although I honestly don't see LIFE IN WILD surviving with a 7pm timeslot...

Yeah, I'm not greedy. Plus this Gossip Girl sounds like it has potential to fill the teen drama void.
