L&O casting news

Though both the original Law & Order and Criminal Intent (which is moving to sister network USA) have been awarded new seasons, NBC U has some belt-tightening to do. Sources tell FoxNews.com that franchise father Dick Wolf will reduce L&O vet Sam Waterston's salary by giving Jack McCoy a "promotion" to the smaller role of district attorney, and then hire a younger (read: cheaper) actor to fill the vacated slot.

Among the cops, Milena Govich, the series' first female detective, wasn't asked back for the fall, and rumors are swirling that partner Jesse L. Martin may join her on the unemployment line. CI, meanwhile, plans to keep Vincent D'Onofrio and Chris Noth, despite their hefty salaries. No word on whether their female counterparts — Julianne Nicholson and Kathryn Erbe — will return, but they rarely got a word in edgewise, anyway.

If they're going to give Sam a promotion, I'd personally like to see them also show us two sets of prosecution teams. That might cost a little more up front, but it might keep costs down longer term.

NBC's schedule, is well, interesting. Journeyman, with its science-fiction elements, could be a big hit after Heroes, and the Monday 10:00 timeslot with CSI Miami (isn't CSI getting old at this point or is it just me) and the Bachelor as it's only real competition. But, wasn't Journeyman already on TV once, as "Quantum Leap"? I'm not sure they'll be able to top the original.

Life is the one NBC drama I'm looking most forward to. The concept (wrongly imprisoned cop is released and becomes a detective after losing 12 years of his life) seems promising and the cast (with the great Adam Arkin and the incredibly beautiful Sarah Shahi) seems good.

What I don't get is Friday Night Lights 10:00 Fridays when people are watching, well, real high school football. They should have saved the show for mid-season and broadcast Lipstick Jungle or something else there instead.

Jack McCoy to DA? That's lame. It's not in his character - he's always hated the political aspect of the law and frequently butted heads with his bosses over it.

I imagine it will be an interim type of situation, at least at first. I have no idea whether that's actually how New York would handle the DA's death, resignation, or whatever.

Even though everyone's been knocking it as a Quantum Leap clone, I'm looking forward to Journeyman because of Kevin McKidd. He was great in Rome.

After the Sopranos this past week I'm quite familiar with her name ;)

Actually I'm thrilled all 4 comedies got renewed esp. the turning into the next scrubs, 30 Rock. My name is earl had another strong season this year & i hope it continues its Quality in season 3. The Office is the only one of the four i could care less about, It's a bit overrated like Arrested development with critics & viewers.

NBC has always been very good to Scrubs considering its never done really well in the Ratings and keeping it for 7 seasons.
I disagree with you on the The Office, its the Greatest tv show on TV right now and my favorite show of all time.

Im actually sad to see the Apprentice get cancelled. I really liked this show even though the last season was the weakest.
