American Idol Spinoff Announced (Will air this Fall)

The Search for the next great American Band is the tentative title. This has some potential. At least it won't be another American Juniors. It looks like Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warrick are also producing this. I guess this is why thye dropped the Emmy's.

I thought Grand Funk Railroad were the American Band? What makes 19 Entertainment think that they will give up that title so easily?

Given that there's already been Dancing with the stars, so you think you can dance, rockstar, celebrity duets, america's got talent, etc out there, I don't think one more reality competition show is going to have much impact on american idol.

OH FUCK NO!
More Reality Garbage is going to be on TV? Fox is going to run Primetime TV into the ground with all this garbage.

I miss the days when Sitcoms were the highest rated shows!

Please people stop watching this SH*T!

That just means that FOX wont be starting a decent hour show that I get into and they cancel after three episodes... so hoo-ray.

Feh, probably won't watch. AI is enough for me, I don't need to see bands too.

You know this might be interesting. I'm assuming the bands will all have to write their own songs instead of performing covers - at least to a degree. Judging by the tremdously varied styles of music that live bands perform (as opposed to the broad "pop" genre to which Idol caters), I find it might be difficult to do. Perhaps their going to ask the bands to write and perform a song from a different genre each week? Also this might be hard to do live unless they all use the same basic setup - unlike Idol where the singer just walks up on stage, the bands have drum setups to consider.

I don't trust these guys with this format to find a good band.

I don't think it will take off.

Exactly right. Any opinion to the contrary is just absurd.

I for one am looking forward to this. I was a big fan of Rockstar and from all indications that is not coming back, so here's hoping they get a smoking hot host and some cool bands.

When sitcoms ruled the ratings, most of them were shit. I hate the anti-reality bias because it makes no sense to me (they're all different). Besides, even back then there was Star Search.

Me too. I've been waiting for a big "Battle of the Bands" type show for a long time because, quite frankly I don't like the pop-crap that is popular on American Idol.

It will be difficult to pull off (with some many genres and varied tastes), but I think they can do it.

I don't know why FOX just doesn't call themselves the Idol Network.

No, they were merely an American band, among others.

Bands on the Run was actually entertaining, even though the bands all sucked. I think the first band eliminated, while not a great band, was the only one that stood out as being somewhat talented and having it's own voice. The other ones were all punk rock wannabes.

I wonder how they'll pull off the audition round. They could skip it and handpick the finalists like RockStar does, but the team behind Idol would never go for that.

They should build a rotating stage so that while one band is auditioning, another can be on the other side setting up.
