Randy has been doing that since S1. If you want to know the truth, Paula gives the most consistent, accurate advice of all the panelists, and that's damn scary.

That happened to me last night. I just started doing other things during the show. I think AI has just lost it's novelty. They need to find a way to make it fresh. How about letting the contestants play their own instruments (Taylor got a rule exception to play the harmonica for about five seconds).

I'm not going to defend Paula but she's been pretty coherent this year.

Wow, Blake was pretty terrible last night. Last week I actually thought his vocals were stronger than ever, all the beatbox antics aside. This week... that falsetto didn't work for me at all. The arrangements were just out of wack. The weird echo effect in the first song... I suppose it was to try to emulate the original a bit but didn't sound right. And it made the beatboxing sound even more out of place. And that second song... he's went back to using that awful 'really low budget electronic/techno' sound to try to sound current but it ends up just sounding more dated.

And Lakisha made the blunder of rearranging a song but completely stripping away the element that makes the song great in first place.

Melinda finished her second song strong, but generally it all just felt liek the same old competent but boring stuff from her.

Jordin's 'To Love Somebody' was solid, my favorite of the night.

Good to get back to having everybody completely suck. There were a few weeks there where the contestants had strong performances or nice personal moments where I almost felt compelled to cheer for one of them. Thankfully, last night was such a complete vocal suckfest that I can go back to rooting for dream-crushing embarrassment.

This week probably sounded good on paper

That second song from Blake was a complete horror... Absolute garbage, but I'm afraid he'll survive only 'cause he's the last guy on the show...

Lakisha is going home tonight, although I'm secretely hoping that America finally tires of Melinda's boring personna and kick's her off the show.

I'm so tired of LaKisha ignoring the mentors advice. I thinki even attempting to sing high on "Stayin' Alive" would have helped. Instead she plowed through it in that wholly derivative style. I'm sick of it!

What about Melinda not singing "how can a loser ever win." Is there some kind of Bee Gees Curse I forgot about? Did Scott Savol sing this on something? Without that line, the song doesn't have the same impact...

Why Blake picked a Bee Gees song from a going-gone 2001 CD is beyond me. All of those great songs those guys wrote, it's ridiculous.

Melinda: I think her 2nd song choice was much better than the 1st. It was a good, but not great night by her. However, I am so annoyed by her stupid facial expressions after finishing.

Blake: Hated both his performances. The beat box crap is getting old fast.

LaKisha: Agree with the earlier assessment. Both song choices were bad and ignoring the advice of your mentor didn't help her cause. Her outfits are god awful. I know she's a big woman, but she looks heavier every time I see her. IMO, there is just no way she will have any decent record sales other than the Urban/R&B Market. Both there are so many other young female black singers who sound like her already.

Jordin: Her 1st song was great! I remember Ruben sang that song in season 2 and her version was pretty damn good. I have to agree the 2nd song was a little pitchy. That's a great Barry Gibb-penned song and if she would have nailed that, then I think she could have locked a spot in the final 2.

But, I could understand that her vocals were probably reallly tired. I mean she and the other contestants performed both songs twice today!! (You have to count the rehearsals which is used for the voter recap clips) Singing 4 times in 1 day will obviously put a strain on your voice.

Dialidol predictions...

Spoiler:
Blake and Jordan are "safe", Melinda and Lakisha are the bottom two.

I *really* hope that Melinda is sent home tonight because that would mean Lakisha goes home next week for sure, leaving the Blake / Jordan as the final two as I predicted when there were 12 or so left.

They sing like a minute of the song, so isnt that the same as singing one normal song? Doesn't seem like so much.

Bull. Have you ever been to a concert?

Headliner acts sing anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours.

(That's more than 4 songs)

Lakisha's voice was strained because she had something from Simon down her throat.

His spit from last week, his spit....

I assumed she was referring to

Gina: Smile, though your heart is breaking... Though there's a cloud in the sky you'll get by...

Phil: I'm going down in a blaze of glory

Yeah but these guys are amateurs. Veteran singers obviously can handle the strain of a 90 minute-2 hour show.

Well, I can understand it, although I think it's a bit immature. The song suffered because of the omission worrying about it made her look a bit odd.
