I still think it's no contest. This season has been fairly erratic and hasn't come close to the brilliance of season two for me.

I agree. Sure season 3 has been been good, but it's been a bit hit or miss. Then again, even the "miss" episodes are good. That said, for me this episode was far and away the funniest episode of the show's run.

This was probably the hardest I've ever laughed at an episode of The Office and I've been a fan since Episode 1.
Evrey single thing was pure gold from start to finish. It makes me sad that fans could actually view this episode and not laugh their asses off.

it has 3 of my favorite episodes of all time (the opener, the last supersized episode when they returned from hiatus, and tonights episode)
I think there were a couple other good episodes and a lot of real disappointments besides those
I would have to rank season 3 using the number it contains

Well, I did say it was the funniest for me.
By the way which episodes did you find funnier?

(Though I did laugh at Andy going from fear to jealousy over his girlfriend, and he and Jim harmonizing at the end. And that's about it.)

I can't exactly state what was wrong, but the whole thing just felt "off."
Which, all in all, just goes to show how subjective individual tastes can be, I guess.

Also no Michael/Jan, no Dwight/Angela, and no Ryan/Kelly.
Gotta save a lot of that stuff for the last couple of episodes. . .

Same here.
Subtle but great.
Same here. Some good stuff in it, but I wouldn't even put it in the top 5. And no I can't name the other 4.
I just remember liking other episodes a lot more than this one. I agree with GreenVulture, there was just something "off" for me as well.
Michael was too zany for one. Calling the press conference was pure Michael but the retarded terrorist speach? [Gob Bluth]Come on.[/Gob Bluth] The check to the disgruntled customer? Another
The writers have shown us Michael is a great businessman in a crunch and can land the big accounts so how he handled the situation was totally out of character.
Andy and his emotions over the high school chick was a riot. "Who do you think that guy was with her?"

Jim: "Question: Which bear is best?"
Dwigt: "That question is ridiculous."
Jim: "False! The black bear. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica."

Fantastic episode.

I liked the episode and there were some very funny moments. I did find it odd that the scandal was big but nobody from corporate gets called or involved? Jan should have been included in some way. It would have been awesome if she was there at the apology scene and Michael blurts out that they are hittin' it.

I thought it started out very strongly...from the opening scene to the first commercial break (10 minutes in) was non-stop gold. From there on, though, it felt pretty uneven. Still a good episode, but not Season 3's best.

I'm in the camp of those who felt the episode was uneven. I did laugh out loud several times, but it had its fair share of lame moments. The "accents" scene being an example.
As for where I rank Season 3, I'd put it on par with the 1st season but far behind the nearly perfect 2nd.

Threat Level: Midnight
It's funny that Michael mentioned it (and Jim gave one of his looks since it called back to Michael’s script) as on the calendar for The Office, that is actually scribbled right by the 26th of this month.

Another board pointed out that Jim spent $4+$7 on his Dwight outfit, and later on Angela asked Kevin if he knew what 4+7 was - did Jim expense his purchase?
Other great moments:
The cut from Kelly's "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" to Angela taking headache pills
Jim's "It doesn't matter, cause it's a felony" to Andy
Pam's soft "yes" when Michael asked if she knew what the camera was
The American flag made out of four 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper
Michael calling Ryan "sweetcheeks"
Dwight covering Phyllis with a plant
The return of "Threat Level: Midnight"
Andy's choice in a cappella - as a former a cappella singer myself, he went straight to the song that EVERY group has done - "Drift Away"
Dwight's consensual animal sex speech "They are smiling" and "...couple of pigs watching"
"Beer me" being funny 25% of the time
Kelly and the accountants
And the now infamous cold open and close
This is right up there with "The Injury" and "Casino Night" as my favorite episode of The Office ever.

I also liked:
-Michael's sarcastic response to Pam when she asked if they were having a press conference.
-The big check. Wow, what an offer. 6 months of free paper or 25 reams, whichever came first.
-Angela's contempt and bitchiness in talking to the customers.
But as mentioned, 2 of my favorites were:
"No Sweetcheeks, we're gonna send someone who has actually made a sale." and Phyllis as the ugly beet.
