Webster, Full House, the Designing Women theme with Ray Charles. LA Law played out quick and became annoying by the second season.

Will & Grace...hate that.

Cosby Show is really bad.

My vote goes to South Park. I can't understand a thing they say. I get something like: "...Goin' down to South Park gunna have myself a time...friendly faces everywhere, blah, blah, blah, without temptation...."

friendly folk

They took the cool intro with the cast and chopped it down to about a 5 second shot of the logo.

Like I said before, Frasier did micro-intro long before Lost & Heroes around, so they get the blame from me.

D'oh! I even posted in that. To be fair, worst & annoying are quite different. I posted in that thread that Smallville is annoying, but I wouldn't consider it bad, much less one of the worst ever.

Which Cosby Show theme? They had a different arrangement of it each season. Did one version stand out as being worse than the others for you, or do you hate them all equally?

For myself, I can't stand the "acapella" version they used around the 4th or 5th season. You know, the one with the voices going, "Doop, do doo wah. Doop doodily doo."

devilshalo 04-03-07 12:18 PM

All in the Family... some may think it's endearing to hear Archie and Edith, but it's like nails on a chalkboard to me. The first season of Magnum PI wasn't very thrilling either.

Rocketdog2000 04-03-07 12:18 PM

Absolutely anything that Mike Post did the theme for.

Eddie W 04-03-07 12:25 PM

Weeds. Though not so grating in the second season when they had different artist cover it each week.

I must be one of the very few around that likes The L Word's opening song...

boredsilly 04-03-07 12:35 PM

Woah, woah, woah! I love the Cosby theme. Ok, not all of them as most were pretty bad (especially the first one where the cast is playing football, and the one where they're dancing callipso), but the one where everyone is dressed up dancing in front of the Apollo signage is awesome. One of my favorite intros/themes.

Draven 04-03-07 12:45 PM

Those of you against micro-intros, do you actually watch the whole thing every week? I fast-forward past every single theme song for every show I watch.

To answer the question, Gilmore Girls has the worst by far - I've never been able to sit through the whole song.

I agree with this. It was such overindulgent crap. Didn't they play it at the beginning and end of each episode, too, or was it just at the end?

Blasphemy!

The Everybody Hates Chris theme is pretty bad.

Oh, and Seinfeld. Sorry, but I hate that snapping popping crap.

Friends, too. Every time I happen to catch the opening (which isn't often) I hope that this is the time they all drown in that fucking fountain.

Randy Miller III 04-03-07 01:41 PM

Forget sitcoms...if you want bad opening themes, just watch anime.

Probably the worst in recent memory is Berserk.
It's an incredibly dark, violent series...but the theme song sounds like the bastard child of Blur and Green Day.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!? :) No way. It's perfect. I prefer that a series have a good theme song, but Lost's lack of theme song really worked for it and now it's constantly copied. Heroes copied Lost's theme style and so did Jericho. All shows that think they're too cool to have a theme song. lol.

Joe Schmoe 04-03-07 02:41 PM

Some of my votes...

Frasier (closing theme)
Two & A Half Men
Battlestar Galactica (new series)
any Law & Order
Barney Miller
Family Ties
The Cosby Show

that was the first show that popped into my mind.... ack!

Tscott 04-03-07 03:06 PM

I'll agree with the L-word. I recently watched all three seasons on DVD. I LOVED the season 1 opening. Then I put in the first disc of season 2 and thought "what the hell were they thinking". Then somehow the group "Betty" had to start appearing in every episode. Ugh.

I've got to disagree strongly with Weeds. I love that song and think it fits the show perfectly. I bought the soundtrack for that song alone (although every other track turned out to be great too).

And to say the Gilmore Girls theme is bad is insane.

I'll add one that hasn't been mentioned yet - Dark Angel. It might not be the worst, but it's completely forgetable. I watched every episode of Dark Angel as it aired, then recently watched it again on DVD. The first time I heard the theme song upon rewatching it I thought "Really, is that what they used for the theme song?" I had completely blocked it out of my mind. Just random beats and "woo woo woo" samples. This was made worse in the second season when they started putting a voiceover on top of the theme to explain the premise of the show to us in case we hadn't been paying attention. But thankfully they didn't use the full version of the song with Chuck D's vocals on the tv show.

copying my own comment from the "annoying" thread -

Three's Company - I hated the show anyway, but I think the theme song had a lot to do with it.

Jadzia 04-03-07 04:06 PM

I hate that scream that starts the opening to Cold Case. I always try and hit my remote before that starts.

The opening theme music to Without a Trace isn't bad, but I hate how they slow it down and play that same piano theme during any "dramatic" moment in the show. "Doo-doo, doo-doo, duh duh duh duh-duh..."

Groucho 04-03-07 04:11 PM

My vote:

Tick tock, alarm clock, I'm gonna be late,
Porridge, toast, kids, car, bloody school gate.
Factory floor, what a chore, another week's graft,
And fifty times a day I hear "You havin' a laugh?"
Whatever happened to my dreams, is this the life I chose?
The highlight of my ruddy day is when the whistle blows!

I second all of those as being awesome. Why did I think Post had something to do with Miami Vice as well?
