That seems like a stretch to me.

B.A. 03-28-07 11:41 PM

Good riddance.

Although I did get a chuckle every time Sawyer asked who those two were.

JZ1276 03-28-07 11:56 PM

I think it was just supposed to be the sound of the spiders on the leaves , etc walking towards Paolo and Nikki.
The sound effects used in Lost have always been questionable. Remember the way the others would be heard in the jungle before we ever saw them? Their voices would sorround anyone in the jungle, almost like they were throwing their voices like they were invisible.

I was entertained :) That's how to do a filler ep - make it a self-contained little story, and draw our attention away from the "big" story.

 at Hurley's eulogy

MasterCXtreme 03-29-07 12:49 AM

-The sound was definitely the spiders crawling up towards Paolo & Nikki.
-Boone isn't gay, Shannon's just a bitch.
-Nikki's got some spectacular boobers that will be missed.
-Little-to-no plot development... but a great episode

Bronkster 03-29-07 01:26 AM

Well. That was fun.

You could almost hear Artz's zipper break open when Nikki was talking to him.

This is my first post in a Lost thread, and I'll keep my comments brief: this episode reminded me a lot of "Flashes Before Your Eyes" and "Tricia Tanaka...": fun to watch, but essentially pointless when you get down to it. I wonder why they even introduced these two when they have done almost nothing of note prior to this episode.

I think it would have been better (and more shocking) if this had happened to one of the main characters who have been put on the sidelines this season, like Charlie, Hurley, hell even Rose and Bernard, aka some character(s) we have connected with in the past seasons. And to be honest, that whole Sun kidnapping thing almost felt like something that was hastily written in so people wouldn't bitch about "the plot not being moved forward at all."

Despite my negative attitude, I did enjoy this episode. I dunno, maybe I'm just projecting my frustration about the polar station at the end of S2 onto this ep...seriously, you don't drop a bomb like that and then never mention it again.

Seantn 03-29-07 01:46 AM

Rose and Bernard's storyline is - at least for the time being - over.

Rose stated very clearly, "I don't ever want to leave this island", and Bernard said that they never would.

Soooo...if that's the case, there's not much more to them. They just want to go live their lives on the island, not get caught up in the drama of "the others" or the shenanigans of the survivors. If anything, maybe Rose and Bernard will be living with the others by the end of the series.

Doughboy 03-29-07 01:50 AM

So I guess "Pablo and Nina" had no purpose whatsoever on the show. Then again, Lost is good at that lately. Having new characters appear out of thin air just so they can milk them for a few episodes(not to mention flashbacks) and then promptly dispose of them.

Was it an entertaining episode? Yes. Did I enjoy all the cameos by the dead people? Sure. Does Nikki have a great rack? Of course. But ultimately this did nothing but remind me what a disappointment Season 3 is turning out to be.

Because is was a cooler/hotter shot of her waking up...and lost fans ask too many questions. I enjoyed the episode quite a bit, "razzle dazzle!" was the best line of the night.

Rinoas_KnighT 03-29-07 02:19 AM

When did Sun get kidnapped again?

ScandalUMD 03-29-07 02:27 AM

After the cliffhanger last week, this was a total "Not Without My Anus."

hardercore 03-29-07 02:32 AM

It was better than I expected, but I didn't really care for it. Just a notch below the Jack episode as the weakest of the season, but some of the jokes were hilarious. It felt like Damon and Carlton were winking at the audience the whole time, saying "We know we made a mistake with Nikki/Paulo, this one is for you guys." ... Nikki forboding with the "you know what happens to guest stars" comment in her flashback, Sawyer's constant "who the hell are you?" comments and the last, great scene alluding to the frequently joked about Zombie Season!

Great fun, but not much else. Nikki and Paulo will be back ... if ABC push Damon and Carlton to a Zombie Season in Season 7.

Josh-da-man 03-29-07 03:42 AM

1. I think Boone is gay. I remember reading a spoiler site that said an existing character would be "outed" this week. Most people thought it would be Tom/Mr Friendly.

2. I'm not ready to call a "monster kill" on Nikki, though Hurley might be. Her death was set up when Arzt was explaining about the female spider attracting males.

3. I wonder if that walkie-talkie Paolo picked up won't show up in a later episode...

4. According to the spoilers, there was only supposed to be one death tonight. [vague spoiler for the rest of the season]
Spoiler:
According to some sources, there will be X more deaths, including the one tonight, by the end of the season. Since there were two, does that mean the total is off? Or...

5. Are they both dead? Since the spider's venom must supress the metabolism, anyone suffering its effects should be able to survive for quite a while without oxygen. Is it possible one of them could be dug alive in the near future? It appeared that Vincent knew they were alive, so maybe he'll dig Nikki up. (Damn, I hate to the hot chicks get killed off right and left on this fucking show.)

movieking 03-29-07 05:15 AM

Tom/Mr Friendly was sort of confirmed to be gay when he told Kate that she wasn't his type when she was taking a shower after they caught her. Shannon was just being obnious to Boone by calling him gay.

I think that Rodrigo had given an interview a while ago saying that his last Lost episode would be in March, so my assumption that he is gone. With Kiele being cast in a pilot for Football Wives, chances are she is gone for good as well.

I have to think that the writers had much bigger plans for Sanchez and "the Tom Cruise of Brazil" when the roles were cast. I think that they had to bow to fan complaints that there were already too many people on the island, and some of the favorite characters were getting little to no screen time. I remember reading that Sanchez was supposed to be a potential love interest for Sawyer at one point.

This was definitely an entertaining standalone episode. One of my favorites from this season.

hardercore 03-29-07 05:16 AM

Razzle Fucking Dazzle baby, Nikki was smokin'!!!

That line "razzle dazzle" just captured the cheesy, tongue-in-cheek tone of this episode perfectly. Kitsis and Horowitz might be the go-to men for filler episodes, but at least they are starting to do them with a high level of entertainment always in mind ... much better than episodes like Fire+Water, etc...

A-aron 03-29-07 05:29 AM

I think these characters will come back in some way. Just like Artz's line about the spider, remember that Locke also made the comment about buried things coming back. Since the buried the two relatively close to the shore, I would bet that the tide will help set them free.

But they will be dead by suffocation by then.

Yeah, they kinda glossed over that one. That was one of the big ones bugging me. More so than what paralyzed Locke. Glad they finally answered that one.

I loved it and this is desperately what the show has needed. Step away from the others for a bit and get back to the other survivors(besides Jack, Kate & Sawyer). It was nice having some relatively new blood in the survivor group. They are on quite the hot streak. Ever since and INCLUDING the Tricia Tanaka episode, this season has improved immensely since the first six episodes. And Desmond's episode has to rank in the top 3 of the series for me. It does seem like they realize they need to step things up and move things along a bit more. We learned why Kate & Sawyer were taken, and it was nice to see Charlie fess up to taking Sun with Sawyers help.

Even though this episode seems like stand-alone filler, they managed to give us some info. It was also nice seeing Shannon, Boone, Arzt & Ethan. It was spoiled a bit from the opening credits though.

The venom could have been just as deadly topical as well. He did squash the thing while she was only bit.

Exact opposite for me. This episode reminded me why I love Lost in the first place. This episode could have easily been done during season 1 and that's why I like it. I'm going to have to keep my eye on these two writers.

HE Pennypacker 03-29-07 06:56 AM

So are those two indeed dead? Afterall, Locke did say in this episode "Nothing on this island remains buried," or something along those lines.

Michael Corvin 03-29-07 06:58 AM

Onto the questions:

Was I the only one that found it odd that Paulo found "the Pearl" before Locke?

And how was it that Paulo was able to open the hatch? Looks like he found it before Locke as well. Locke only found it because Eko's brother's plane fell on it, right? The plane was still in the tree when Paulo found it. My memory is fuzzy. Did Desmond just happen to be out and about when Paulo found it? When Locke found it, the hatch door was covered with dirt. Dirt Paulo didn't replace after he opened it.

I also forgot to check and see if they showed "Quarantine" on the inside of the hatch door last night from Paulo's perspective.

superdeluxe 03-29-07 07:03 AM

Great episode. But absolutely pointless.

It was a self contained episode about 2 characters that no one cared about. Did not progress any issue or story that is happening on lost.

Vipper II 03-29-07 07:10 AM

Not a bad episode, especially for a completely pointless one. Loved that ending.

Oh, and if you remember only one thing from this episode, let it be Nikki's utter hotness. My lord! Whew!

treszoks 03-29-07 07:17 AM

That was one bad-looking wig on Boone lol.

I wonder if in flashbacks we'll see the radio come into play? I'm surprised Paulo kept all this stuff secret like the plane, hatch, visit from Ben and Juliette.

Pointyskull 03-29-07 07:21 AM

Great ep!

I love how Paulo's bathroom visit actually meant something...

The bite of the female spider (Paulo) might also be more potent then the male one (Nicki).

Like others have said, I really enjoyed the episode even if it did not mean much for the overall storyline.

maxfisher 03-29-07 07:41 AM

I really didn't care for this episode at all. The entire thing was basically a tongue-in-cheek 'remember this' game that felt like it was written by a couple of high schoolers who watch the show religiously. Some of the jokes would have been somewhat entertaining if they'd been in a SNL skit parodying Lost, but they just came across as horribly stupid when presented in the context of the show itself. I know it might just be the marketing morons at abc, but next week's preview looked pretty stupid too.

Spoiler:
Tune in to see hot chicks mud wrestle!

Maybe in a couple weeks we'll have a preview where Sawyer's burning all the female Lostie's clothes so they have to walk around naked all the time. Yeah, that'll help the ratings!

starseed1981 03-29-07 07:41 AM

Not a bad episode considering it was filler. Ending was kinda cool I thought though.

Geofferson 03-29-07 07:52 AM

I enjoyed last night's episode. No real purpose other than to play to the complaints that many have had about those two -- great ending indeed.

Red Dog 03-29-07 07:57 AM

Great episode - great ending. I don't care that it was essentially a filler episode. Thought the way they handled the whole complaints about passengers off-screen, then the complaints about these 2 coming out of nowhere was brilliant - they made an on-screen reference to guest stars not lasting and then tied it all up beautifully.

But why do they have to keep killing off the hot chicks though. :(

Oh and we need a show called Expose featuring strippers and Billy Dee Williams. That's weekend syndication cheesy gold.

They explained that the first time Paulo was in the station stashing the diamonds when Ben & Juliet came in and watched Jack on the monitor. Ben asked if she had left the hatch uncovered, and told her to throw something back over it when they left.

This may have been addressed but the spiders coming after nicky was not part of the black smoke. The school teacher told nicky the the harmones of the female spider would have males swarming in minutes. Nevermind I see it has been addressed 100 times. For the record I dont think it had anything to do with the black smoke.

something was up w/ the black smoke though right before the scene. We didn't see anything, but we definitely heard the buzzing/cicada-like sound...

Also, I think the original poster is comfusing the hatches. Desmond was in the one Boone and Locke uncovered. The "Pearl" was a different hatch altogether that Locke and Ecko found. The big mystery of them finding it before Locke is that Locke was on a quest to find it once he discovered there were multiple hatches. The two from last night saw the plane, walked a bit farther and stumbled onto the hatch. Locke followed some kind of map. When Locke found the plane, he sent Boone up into it and got Boone killed. Had he wandered around a bit, he probably would have stumbled over it as well.

So now that they have shown PROOF that the "Others" use the hatches, what is their connection to Desmond and the Quarrentine?

Also, I don't think the people that are being called "Others" are the ones that create the voices that surround people in the woods.
