Cowboy boots and symbols...but what does it all mean? Thanks, redrum.

Was this the first time that a flashback was so directly related to what was being discussed at the same time during the episode?

Yeah, I thought that was pretty damn interesting myself. |

It's possible, if the sub was really destroyed, that we could see a royal freak out by some of the Others who needed that safety net to know they could go back, and they align with the Losties rather than Ben. |
I thought of Dick in a Box |

I honestly think they just put shit like that in to get the nerds online talking about it so they can sit in their office and laugh at how obsessed people are with the show.

Blasphemy!!! Actually, you might be on to something.... |
Analyzing the symbols on the tray... they look suspiciously like the hieroglyphs that were on a piece of wreckage recovered from the crash of an alien spacecraft in Roswell, NM, in 1947. If Locke is in possession of such artifacts, then it opens up all kinds of new storytelling possibilities.
That, or they're supposed to be cattle brands. (Note that the tray has cowboy boots on it, so it's possibly a western motif.) I like the Roswell thing, better, though. |

Hadn't thought of the cattle brand thing, but I'd wager that's correct.

BUt he didn't know the way... Ben does. He gave Michael directions there.
|
I'm still expecting Michael to show up back on the island in a Desmond-esque way.
