Cowboy boots and symbols...but what does it all mean? Thanks, redrum.

Was this the first time that a flashback was so directly related to what was being discussed at the same time during the episode?

Yeah, I thought that was pretty damn interesting myself.

That would be pretty sweet. Locke whips out his knife, "Stuck In The Middle With You" starts playng ... ratings go back up.

Maybe he was one of the people Juliet felt would be happy with a change in leadership when she got Jack to make his powerplay at the operating table.

It's possible, if the sub was really destroyed, that we could see a royal freak out by some of the Others who needed that safety net to know they could go back, and they align with the Losties rather than Ben.

I thought of Dick in a Box

hardercore 03-23-07 06:18 PM

... yeah, can somebody explain the significance of this?

Josh H 03-23-07 06:24 PM

I honestly think they just put shit like that in to get the nerds online talking about it so they can sit in their office and laugh at how obsessed people are with the show.

Blasphemy!!!

Actually, you might be on to something....

Analyzing the symbols on the tray... they look suspiciously like the hieroglyphs that were on a piece of wreckage recovered from the crash of an alien spacecraft in Roswell, NM, in 1947. If Locke is in possession of such artifacts, then it opens up all kinds of new storytelling possibilities.

That, or they're supposed to be cattle brands. (Note that the tray has cowboy boots on it, so it's possibly a western motif.)

I like the Roswell thing, better, though.

Isn't it just possible he thought it was a cool tray because of that or a souvenir?

Goldberg74 03-24-07 08:40 AM

Me too!

groovrbaby 03-24-07 11:33 AM

Hadn't thought of the cattle brand thing, but I'd wager that's correct.

Flave 03-25-07 10:48 AM

Pretty dark picture but from what I can see, not Roswell symbols:

Not absolute immortality like Highlander, but immunity from disease and possibly aging. That is why Ben is so concerned about having gotten cancer and Locke said something like how did you manage to get sick.

Therecanbonly1 03-26-07 08:19 AM

OK, the Sub is destroyed... Don't they still have the sailboat they stole somwhere? Shouldn't Locke know about that too?

i guess the theory is only the sub could go the distance.

Therecanbonly1 03-26-07 07:19 PM

But isn't the boat how Desmond got there?

Same boat that Desmond was sailing around in circles when he tried using it to escape the island, though.

Therecanbonly1 03-26-07 09:37 PM

BUt he didn't know the way... Ben does. He gave Michael directions there.

GoldenJCJ 03-26-07 10:14 PM

I'm still expecting Michael to show up back on the island in a Desmond-esque way.
