did you guys watch last night? good episode. but i agree with you nefarious...the captains keep helping him...and he is doing great...so why do they keep helping?
at least in this episode he gets a lil payback when he passed on phil's tip when he promised not to...funny when they pulled up the welded pot. and speaking of pranks...gotta love the flour thing. hahah
hopefully everything will work out with the cornelia marie's broken wheel thing...that really sucks. looking forward to watching next week -- i think they said a man goes overboard. yikes!

Decent episode last night, but I'm not enjoying this season as much as the previous seasons. I'm getting the feeling that a lot of the situations have been scripted for this season. One thing that I have always enjoyed about this show is that it seemed like a true documentary of guys doing a really tough job. It felt real. Now they have Blake acting like he's never been out to sea and ratting out Phil's fishing grounds to other captains while Phil was listening(definitely seemed scripted). I also thought that Matt's conversation with Sig about his pending court date was scripted for dramatic purposes. If Matt truly didn't tell Sig before heading out to sea, then he's a complete dick to put Sig in a situation where he would have to steam back to port just to drop him off.

Have to agree with the previous posters also. It seems as though the drama on this season is scripted. Situations they are in, just seem a bit to convenient. Why would Matt get on a boat, knowing there is a chance he won't make it back in time for his Court date? Why would he put Sig through that? Then there is the thing with Blake, while I personally cannot stand Blake, the whole thing with Phil listening in is a bit to convenient.
Another problem is, they don't seem to do a crab count until near the end of the show. It seems to have lost sight of the competition part of the show, something I truly enjoyed.
Still, I'll keep watching in hopes that it picks up.

I suppose the producers are counting on the audience not knowing how radios work.

i think it is cool these captains are becoming famous. sig rules.
as far as this season goes, i am really enjoying it. i dont think it really is scripted per se. i mean, i bet matt didnt tell sig about the jail thing because sig probably wouldnt let him come out at all for the season, which i bet matt couldnt afford to do.
and i have a feeling the radio thing was "scripted" by the captains, not by discovery. like they probably tricked blake to see if he would break his promise. either way, im really enjoying it. looking forward to another new one tonight.

wow, another good episode. that guy that was climbing on the stack was nuts and then he got taken off and the time bandit was right there and saved him. quite an end to the episode! glad to see that their training allowed someone to survive!

The deckhand is extremely lucky that the Time Bandit was in the area and was able to rescue him. Glad to see the Cornelia Marie is back on the seas, and next week looks good too. I'm sure that Blake is going to ask everyone where to set his pots since he can't make any decisions on his own.

I can see why they didn't want to stay with him. He seems way too immature to be captain of a crab boat. Already he is getting people pissed off by trading info from one person and straight onto everyone else. He got off to a good start, but i bet his season goes down the crapper real soon. The only person that i have seen so far that makes it consistently good each season is Sig. Phil also does well, but Sig really seems to have a feel for the best patches. Plus the guys on that boat are the best by far. If i had to be on a boat i would want it to be the Northwestern.

oh man. what a great episode. that deckhand was sooooooooo lucky. it's really scary out there. this show continues to have me on the edge of my seat. i have to remind myself that this is just these guys doing their job.
also glad the cornelia marie is back out there.
and james 2025a...i agree with you...i bet at the end of the season blake doesnt end up as hot as he appears right now.

Watching last nights episode wasn't a surprise. Northwestern making the most money per deckhand yet again. They earned it this time though. It was funny seeing Blake dumping all those crabs back and then finding out they were short of their quota. Typically he was trying to blame everyone but himself. I guess counting and listening to his crew are not his best skills. See it mentioned for the next episode that he is not going out on the January season....i can see why. Thats when they really have a tough time with the weather.
It was interesting to see that even the boats that looked like they had managed nothing all season managed to get their quota. Just shows you how much editing takes places to try and create tension and bring the show to a climax when they have to return to port.
Good to see the Hillstrands do well. I guess that one good turn deserves another after they rescued that guy. Man they were hauling some numbers on that last string.

I think it airs next week w/ the start of the Opilio crab season.
It was said on the last episode that Blake had already planned to take off the Opilio season. I would guess Rick wasn't completely ready to turn over the reins. I was surprised that the Maverick quota for King Crab was so low. I wonder if that had to do with the captain being a rookie. Rick probably couldn't afford two low quotas. I agree that it was a hard lesson learned to look back at all the crab they rail-dumped and to end up short. I wonder if they truly did just have lighter than average crab.
Rick is not only captain but he's owner so I think he earns more than the captains salary when he goes out.
Northwestern's average was higher because they use fewer deck-hands. They can do that because those guys are so experienced and have worked together so long. Sig knows his spots though.
With the quota system they can take as long as they need but if they miss deadlines then the price drops. So there is the incentive to get it quick but at the same time not so quick as to compromise safety (theoretically).

My bad. I thought that you meant at the end of the season, not the end of an individual episode.
