I watched the premier when it was on, but since I knew the dvds would be out very soon thereafter I decided to wait. I've been through the first two discs with Netflix which has taken me through episode 5. I think episode 4 is very interesting for it's dark tone - something missing from the earlier ones. Especially the scene at the very end. I was very taken aback, but in a good way.
I'm looking forward to the remaining epsidoes for the season - only a handful though. =/ I think the characters are progressing nicely. Things I like:
- Robin/Marion relationship; especially their different viewpoints on some of their similar actions/goals
- The Sheriff; I wasn't too keen on him at first, but he has definitely grown on me. I think I may actually like him better than any incarnation I've seen to date.
- Gisborn; good acting, but I wish he would have some more character depth. And that weird outfit really has to go.

Doc, this is entertainment not history -- they take as many liberties with the cast as they do with the dialogue (or costuming for that matter). Of course that's one of the reasons I like the show.

That was my point exactly (Not that any other Robin Hood version is anymore historically accurate). I dig the show, even if it's mindless entertainment.

EDIT: I just realized, you were responding to my question about the Master-At-Arms from a couple months ago, weren't you? I forgot I had even posed that question. I understand liberties can be taken and I'm fine with it, I was just a little taken aback and was wondering if anyone else was, as well. It was just a little jarring, knowing historically that that dude didn't belong there. It'd be like seeing a movie about the first thanksgiving dinner (which in and of itself is apocryphal) and seeing a black guy with buckle shoes and high hat sitting there with the puritans.

Just finished up the series. I think by the end of the series it is leaps and bounds from where we were and where the characters were at the beginning.
I think there could have been a cliffhanger to the season, but I suppose it wraps up some lose ends in the event it wasn't picked up. ?
I do feel they could have taken the series somewhere dasterously dark and did to a certain degree, almost to the point where they couldn't come back, but in the end they backed away from that. Too bad really, because I think it would have been very interesting. At the least, I think they could have left it on a dark cliffhanger and actually still ended up with where they did at the end of ep 13.
Anyway, I enjoyed the first series and am looking forward to the next, although it will likely be a year before we see that out over here.

I have to recant my earlier post.
I just finished season 2 and it was excellent. Much better than the first. They have dropped a lot of the hokeyness and made it a bit darker. There is great chemistry betwee Robin and Marian. The last couple episodes were outstanding. It still has enough cheese to make you smile once in a awhile, but the roll your eyes scenes are now few and far between.
This has become my favorite Robin Hood series, and is much better (IMO) than the "Robin the Rock Star" Praed series (which I have on DVD).
Most notable is the performance of Keith Allen as the wacked out Sheriff of Nottingham.

rented the first season from the library -- Great series!
Great serealized show with great stand-alone episodes. reminded me a bit of Buffy.
Looking forward ot the second. Does this just run on BBC America (which I don't get) or doesn any other station play it.

I enjoyed S1, though for a BBC series it seems extrodinarily dumbed-down. I don't remember them setting the bar quite this low before. Glad to hear the writing is a bit better in S2, and I look forward to it a bit more now.

Wow - I hadn't heard anything about S2. I wondered when it was coming since I knew they had been working on it.
I thought it improved dramatically as the first season progressed, so I'm glad they are building on that. As much as I enjoy shows going for a long term, I think I'd be okay with this finishing up after 3 or 4. It just seems fitting.
Any news on BBCA or R1 dvds? I may wait for the dvds unless I can finagle BBCA HD, but I don't think I've heard of anybody who has that yet. Frankly I'm surprised I haven't heard anything since Torchwood is airing something like 2 weeks after the UK date!

Re: Robin Hood
We started watching the Robin Hood series on BluRay from Netflix as one of our summer TV series. Agree the first episode is extremely week, but the series certainly picked up after that. Up to episode 4 so far.
