I've got the Red Dwarf Complete Collection this week, and I have Spaced on order. Watching Red Dwarf on DVD, I realize now that I've been watching the Red Dwarf Remastered episodes on PBS. I guess I should have known better, but I just assumed that the limited CGI effects were originally from the late 80's.

Huh....wha???? What's Red Dwarf "remastered?" The original DVDs are the original broadcast versions, right?

In the late 90's, the BBC added some CGI effects to Red Dwarf. Mostly they replaced the original models with CGI, and did some other general cleaning up to the effects. Some scenes were added and removed, and dialogue changed as well. Anyway, apparently it wasn't very popular (or it cost too much money...or both) because they only did the first 3 series. That's what they've been airing on my local PBS station, and I didn't realize it at first because the new CGI still has a late 80's look to it.

Apparently the remastered episodes are only available on VHS, but I read an article that said they were going to be released on DVD in the UK later this year.

If it was not for The Office, Peep Show would be the best English comedy of all time.

Thanks to this thread, I tried The IT Crowd and it was pretty good. Thanks to those that recommended it. Then I was horrified to find out there's an American version in the works. With tall, good looking Joel McHale (The Soup) as Roy. They just don't get it when they try to redo these things, do they?

I know what you mean. But then again there have been MANY successful UK -> US TV show remakes that have done well.

All in the Family and Three's Company are two off hand that I can think of that were really done well and lasted for a long time.

Of course, back before PBS started to air a lot of these Britcoms, I don't think many people realized that these were British remakes and then let the shows stand on their own merits. Today, there's almost a stigma attached to a Britcom remake.

the guy next to me thought i was crazy as i kept laughing uncontrollably.

Im a huge fan of brit-comedy, its always great to discover a new and wonderful series.

For those of you whom are fans of many of the great shows in this thread, give the It Crowd a look. Start with Episode 2. Its brilliant. It reminds me alot of Black Books so if you like that show, you'll dig it.

Add 2 more votes (wife & myself) for Chef (1st 2 seasons), Vicar of Dibley, & Thin Blue Line (great for Rowan Atkinson fans). All are available from Columbia House DVD club.

I 2nd "Thin Blue Line". Some will say it wasn't the best Atkinson show but it was still very funny.

If you like "Little Britain" type comedy shows then I also suggest trying "The Catherine Tate show" which airs on here on BBC America.

I've got to thank you guys in this thread. I'd never heard of Spaced until I read about it here. As noted it's not on DVD here in the states, but I was able to watch both seasons over the past week on YouTube and it's great! Time well spent! And it finally prompted me to Netflix Shaun of the Dead.

I got my copy of the 3-Disc Definitive Edition of Spaced today and watched the first episode. I think I'm going to like it. I think I'm going to check out Jeeves and Wooster next.
