Ellen's show bombed!? What are you talking about? Love her or hate her, her talk show is in it's third or fourth season. Is a ratings winner. And has won a slew of Emmys.

Getting back to Eddie Murphy. Why all the hatin' ? Maybe Scary Spice went into labor and his pager went off. Or someone realized his date was a man and he didn't want that kind of bad press.

I guess I need to see Lives of Others, but still...

And, Children of Men got ROBBED!

The two best movies of the year IMO, and I was freakin' for V and A Scanner Darkly a few years ago.

I was looking at Eddie's face when they announced the winner and he looked like someone had just told him he had 3 months to live.

If he did walk out then I'm even happier now that he didn't win the Oscar. Although he probably left because he just found out his date didn't have a penis.

Conan? Sure he is better then Ellen, but that isn't saying much. IMO, Conan is not funny and his buffonishness only plays to a younger crowd who just enjoys slapstick humor. He is not a seasoned comedian like Leno or Letterman, and to think he is going to sit in the same seat as Johnny Carson in 2009! He is a great writer, as he wrote for SNL for many years, and he does have some great skits on his show, but I scratch my head when people say he is the king of late night.

I think everyone is in agreement that Jerry Seinfeld should have a shot at hosting the Oscars at least once. No? His bit on this year's show was pitch perfect. If not him, I wouldn't mind seeing Steve Martin again. Or (as I mentioned before) maybe Steve Carell. Hell no and never again goes to Whoopi Goldberg and Chris Rock. And I love Chris. But the Oscars just wasn't his bag.

Re: Ellen. She's a fine comedienne. And she's proved she can ace hosting award shows (the grammys, Emmys and even the VH-1 fashion awards). She had a successful sitcom and is currently on a very successful talk show. But the Oscars (like Chris Rock) isn't her forum. Although I think she was a million times better than Chris. I wouldn't mind seeing Ellen host the Emmys again though.

Carell could easily become Michael Scott on the Oscars. I can see him telling a joke and the audience just sitting quiet. It would be painful. Yes, I am a fan of his, but I don't think hosting would be his forte.

On the other hand, Colbert would be brilliant. Especially if he stayed in the character he plays on his show. Exposing the Liberal Hollywood Bias would be hilarious.

The lady that won the humanitarian award (with the husband and two sons in the audience)... that was the most stony speech I've ever heard...it was robotic. She looked very uncomfortable being up there receiving an award.

Yes, he could have explained to everyone why Eddie Murphy lost.

Hey, at least now we have a storyline for Beverly Hills Cop 4:

Axel Foley investigates the crime that occured in the Best Supporting Actor category.

I hear Eddie will also play both Rosewood & Taggart in the next BHC installment, so he can be paid 3 times over ...

At least Eddie's honest that money is his prime motivation in making movies.

I remember back in the 80s when someone asked him why he did "Best Defense" and he said something to the tune of "if you'd got paid what I got paid for 'Best Defense', you would have done it too!"

Did anyone else think the clips for supporting actors/actresses were too short? They barely showed a line of each performance.

They were pretty limited w/ Wahlberg's clips due to the fact that they would have to censor half of his dialogue.

Yup, I havent seen the movie either, and they said that was the first time it was released to be seen, as to not spoil the effect of the song or the impact. If you didnt see the movie, you couldnt have heard or see her sing that song.

I was so impressed by her voice. When all three "Dreamgirls" were performing on the Oscars, I got the impression they were all trying to outperform each other. I think Jennifer Hudson blows them all away, and I secretly wonder if they are all as supportive of her as they say. She truly has gotten the lion's share of attention from this movie.

Agreed. Not only were they short, they weren't the best moments in each performance.

I think the Oscars needed more clips of movies and less stupid shadow people. More Seinfeld and less Al Gore.
