Say what you want about the individual episodes, but since Tina Fay is gone the skits have SOOOO much more edge to them

Whole show gets a B-. I don’t know Rainn Wilson from a hole in the ground. I have never been able to stomach more than 5 minutes at a time of The Office. I’m guessing he comes from an improv background, because he was a very good host and seemed right at home doing sketch comedy. He gets an A-

As for the band, I never include the musical guest in the grading. I’m not familiar with most of the acts that play on SNL, and usually don’t even watch the performances. Tonight I watched. And what the fuck was that about? Is that what passes for music today? Bah, says I.

Monologue
Doing The Office shtick. Lorne Michaels had a pretty good joke at the end, but otherwise as insufferable as the show itself. C+

Kenny Loggins foursome
Funny & clever bit with the four guys telling increasingly creepy tales about their memories of the song.
By the way, if Rainn’s feet were in the shopping bag in the bathroom stall, then the guy’s pee wouldn’t come out of his nose, it would be the other way around. Jes’ sayin’. A-

Corporate HQ
I thought this was hilarious, all the weird characters around the conference table. A-

NOOney & NooNEY
Same old bit. This was a mildly funny idea that is very stale now. Funniest gag was cotton candy as
pubes. C-

The Peeper
RW as a peeper looking at a police lineup. It took me half the bit to realize that it wasn’t Hader. Not much, but RW was good, and Rudolph & Poehler made out. Sweeeet. B-

Weekend Update
Lame joke about Denmark pulling its troops out of Iraq, then naming the one guy there. Heard the same joke at least twice this week. Armisen as Judge Seidlin was way too long. Aunt Linda was good as always. Samberg as Prince Harry, off to war, then vomiting copiously upon realizing the danger. So stupid, but why is spewing puke so funny to me? B

Co-Workers
Forte and Wiig play these characters well, but a little too dry. B-

White Possum Scream
This week’s WTF sketch. Same as Black Snake Moan, but with RW in chains. Terrible. D-

River Bliss
Arguing amongst the members of a new age band. Goofy. B-

I only watched for Arcade Fire really, they are one of my favorite bands. Those were alright performances on SNL, but you really need to see them live. They give amazing concerts. If you enjoyed their songs. I recommend their first album "The Funeral" (2004). Their newest album, "Neon Bible" comes out March 6th, some great stuff. Dwight was great, but damn SNL has gotten bad. That was the first full episode I have watched in forever. It was for the most part horrid.

Yet you still watch Saturday Night Live week after week. These SNL threads are like some kind of self torture experiment. By the end of the season that grading chart is going to correspond with the numbers on Lost somehow.

I also thought that was ironic. Comparing the best example of comedy on tv right now (The Office) to the bottom of the barrel (SNL). Also criticizing one of the top rising critically acclaimed bands by only listening to two live songs. :/

I made sure to watch SNL tonight because of Dwight hosting and I generally enjoyed the episode.

Wasn't very aware of Arcade Fire (although the first song was familiar). They were pretty good.

I thought the show was okay. The funniest bit was that parody trailer with Rainn Wilson for "The Last Mimzy" I thought that bit perfectly satirized all the cliches of kids adventure movies from the past five years (ie. Terabithia, Zathura) and the glut of "changing the past/future" films like Deja Vu, The Number 23 and Premonition.

Actually, it looks like "The Last Mimzy" is an actual movie:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0768212/

Yeah, dunno about that one...

First episode I've watched all the way through for the past few years. But only because I'm a huge fan of both The Office and Arcade Fire. And as somebody mentioned before, The Arcade Fire are fantastic live. I saw them before I even heard much of their stuff and I was blown away...

I didn't see the whole show but for some reason when that guy lifted his shirt and there was cotton candy in his pants, I fell out laughing.

I absolutely cracked up laughing at the Kenny Loggins sketch, especially the first part about the uncle. It's the funniest thing that I have seen on SNL in ages.

LOL!!! Some of you oldsters are so hilarious!

SNL has always been about showcasing young, up and coming talent. Like it or not, Arcade Fire are one of the best bands out there today. Yuo shouldn't slag a band just because you are so out of touch with today's music.

That's doesn't always mean the music is good.

If you say so....

Yuo[sic] shouldn't slag a band just because you are so out of touch with today's music.
Point taken. But don't assume everyone agrees with your taste in "music".

*shrugs* It has nothing to do with age. I was listening to Johnny Mathis and doo wop when I was 12. And I still hate The Office. And youth. Now get off my lawn before I call a cop.

I also watched it just because I like Rainn Wilson and the Arcade Fire... but I ended up turning it off after Weekend Update.

I will just watch the Arcade Fire performances from SNL.com or something, because I couldn't take much more of the episode.

The monologue was funny, the memories of kenny loggins was funny (though it was funnier when Adam Sandler did it on the skit "Memory Lane" from the "What the Hell Happened to Me?" CD and the office meeting with the budget cuts was really funny.

The Noonee thing was painful to sit through (The uncomfortable couple sketch was much funnier when it was Will Ferrell and Rachel Dratch) and I didn't really care for the Peeper thing either.

The Arcade Fire was great, as I had expected.

This show is really on life support. I am surprised at how many people think it is even passable sometimes.

As much as I wanted to see this episode, by the time the musical act came on, I was out like a light.

I thought Wiig and Sudeikis did good Pam and Jim impressions.

I thought it started really well but it fell flat after WU. The opening sketch and the Kenny Loggins bit were the best.

I could care less about the musical guest.

I thought Arcade Fire was weak also. No melody.

I thought it was one of the strongest episodes this season, but I'm definitely biased as I'm a big Office fan. As someone else said, I also thought Rainn is a natural at sketch improv comedy.

I thought the best line of WU was when the showed the pic of Howard K. Stern and said paraphrasing "Who woulda thought this man would be the one shaming the name Howard Stern..."

5 of 11 "SNL" Castmembers Love Arcade Fire

Reporting from 30 Rockerfeller Center: Want to to know why Arcade Fire ran off the stage during the closing credits of "Saturday Night Live" last night?

Because, in something that is apparently rarely done at Studio 8H, they played a mini-concert for the audience. Making up the front row of the 3-song set was Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Andy Samberg, all looking absolutely transfixed by this band. The Fire has some high-powered fans, for sure, and converted a good chunk of the audience last night as well.

It's odd that my highlight of the show happened off-camera-- at the end of their three-song set, they played "Wake Up", off the stage and in the audience. Amazing. The cameras were rolling, I'm hoping this appears somewhere.

Also a funny tidbit: Five seconds before the show went back live for Arcade Fire's second song, Rainn Wilson looked at lead singer Win Butler and, in a very deadpan voice, asked what happened to his guitar (he had smashed it during their first song). Ha.

The most amusing thing about Arcade Fire is all the fanboys that rush to their defense if anyone dare say anything negative about them.

At any rate, I thought the episode was decent but really tailed off at the end. The Noooooooney sketch needs to never return. And the dry office co-workers just isn't funny to me. First half of the episode got a B+ from me, 2nd half gets a D+.
