just do what the 'ER' writers do and have his character die some unexpectied spectacular death like Dr. Romano's

From Studio Briefing:

Should Grey's Washington "Come Out?"
ABC has brushed aside proposals by gay activists that Grey's Anatomy costar Isaiah Washington's character should become gay. The actor was recently called on the carpet by producers of the show, fellow actors, and network executives for using an anti-gay slur on the set of the show and repeating it at the Golden Globes awards. An ABC spokesperson told today's (Wednesday) Philadelphia Inquirer: "That is not part of his story line, and it wouldn't make sense for the character." Larry Gross, director of USC's Annenberg School for Communication, added, "ABC won't do it. ... It would be a constant reminder of this incident and would keep it fresh in the minds of viewers." Washington has previously played a gay man -- in Spike Lee's 1996 film Get on the Bus.

No.

Get rid of him.

The inside rumor I've heard mentioned in certain circles is that for now the powers that be are waiting to see if this story has long legs before making changes to the cast. But make no mistake about it Isiah is fighting for his job and barely holding onto it. He has used up all 9 of his lives and then some.

A few of the scripting scenarios being bandied about: TR could have a "crisis" in his love life leading to a realization that he is gay and the Isiah Washington character could leave the show in some "spectacular" way perhaps during May sweeps.

Everything's speculation though at this point.

Calling someone an 'f' is okay but calling someone a 'n' is forbidden?

This makes me wish that someone on some show calls a black cast member a 'n', just so we could all see how hypocritical hollywood is - who ever says it would have their ass canned, plain and simple. How is one offensive remark less offensive than another?

Fuck Isaiah Washington, and fuck homophobes like him.

Michael Richards was at a comedy club, not on the set of a TV series insulting a fellow cast member. The consequences of Richards actions are obvious, but he wasn't in the same situation as Washington.

EDIT:

Where did the message with Richards' picture go? Why did you delete it?

I deleted the picture of Richards due to the fact that I only posted it cause I could have sworn you mentioned the idea of a storyline where Burke is a victim of racism prior to you editing your post....my bad.

If rumors are true, Washington has gone into a "residential treatment facility" this morning for unspecificed reasons. Presumably anger management.

Edit: Shonda and Isaiah have both just issued fresh press releases. He's definitely not fired, but has been sent into counseling. I expect that's the end of the story.

I guess the sarcasm in my post was lost - I didn't want him to get away with a quick edit.

I reported him myself, but I'll delete my post since apparently I was misconstrued.

SO....it's acceptable to say truly hateful, vile things as long as you later issue an apology and "reach out" to leaders of the group you've offended?

In that case...everyone in this thread and on DVD Talk is a bunch of faggoty sugartits who, fifty years ago, would've been upside-down with a fucking fork up your ass!

I'm still not sure I fully understand the "fork in your ass" part. A dinner fork? Salad fork? A pitch fork? Tuning fork?

If I could only ask Michael Richards one question...

There's no "fixing" it. He's not going to wake up tomorrow and suddenly not be a bigot.

"Earlier today I made some truly hateful, truly dispicable remarks that I am truly sorry for saying. There is no excuse for what was said and i'm really busted up over this. I'm a public person who posts in a very uncontrolled manner with lots of free association and I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologise directly to those who have been hurt and offended by those words.

Every person on DVD Talk is God’s child, and if I wish to honour my God I have to honour his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-DVD Talk. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith. I was torn up about things like Katrina, Britney & K-Fed breaking up and poor Beyonce not being nominated for an Oscar.

I look forward to setting up a meeting with Geoff Kleinman, twikoff and kvrdave in an attempt to heal all of those I may have offended with his outburst.

Again, I apologize."

You are right, Everyone that has uttered a racial slur should be condemned for the rest of their lives.

Would he want a racial slut directed at him? I'm sure he would not like to be called the "N" word.
In my opinion he got off easy. Fire the ass.

I would like a racial slut.

And if I grabbed a co-worker in any way, let alone by the throat, and/or called them a derogatory name, I would be fired so fast it would make my head spin. Apparently that is not the case here.

Easy? He used a offensive term, should he be feathered and tarred? He is taking corrective actions, and attempting to make something positive out of all of the negatives.

I've been on a number of boards to see this topic and this responce nails it:

"Isaah will not be fired over this incident. Isaah is black and the show's creator is also black. End of discussion."

i.e. 'Dios los hace y ellos se juntan'.

Everyone's villifying only him when Shondra Rhimes should also be held accountable. As the producer she is out of line for even allowing him to continue working on the show. Aside from the remark he also strangled another co-worker. I bet she would have fired TR Knight or whoever if they asaulted him and called him the n word. Only in Hollywood is it acceptable to malign someone with their hatred and asault another.

What's also reproachable is that until recently she has not uttered a single word of the two incidents.

And whoever says he is trying to find the good out of this bad situation is only fooling themselves. He is desperately clinging to his job, nothing else.

I would love to see the show struggle in the ratings after this. I'm pretty sure they'd sack him once they lose viewers. The show hasn't even been that great for a while but that's not surprising coming from the mind that brought us the Britney Spears movie.

Like many have said, if we did what he did in the workplace, we would be fired in a heartbeat.

If only he had just said, "Ching chong, ching chong," then he could get a job on The View.
