Thankfully we are not in the real world, and you only got 24 hours, maybe they dealt with all the ramifications the following day.

It jumped the shark when Jack and Kim got done with their chess game and I am glued to day 6.

70% through season one, when Elizabeth Nash stabbed Alexis Drazen with a letter opener. But as mentioned, the writers know it, admit it, do it over and over again, and do it well.

The terrorists win because the government and CTU always give into them at some point, and it always, always bites them in the ass.

That always bothers me, too. Aren't we supposed to not even negotiate with terrorists?

I can't wait until next season when it begins with jack on the spacestation and Earth gets demolished by an alien construction crew aboard a Vogon destructor ship and he goes across the galaxy to get revenge, and somewhere along the way meets Chloe, who shows him the socket to get into the Vogons network.

Is this the same season where Mulder & Scully show up?

People here seem to talk about Season 4 as if it were actually a GOOD season.

IMO, the show has jumped the shark numerous times throughout its run. The real question is, "is this season the earliest the show has jumped the shark for the year?"

It hasn't aged well for some. But I think it was an improvement over Season 3 which was 24's weakest year(or day).

This isn't even the first time a nuclear bomb has gone off. So, they've already jumped this shark before.

I'm waiting for the season where Jack has a chip planted in his head that will explode in 24 hours.

24 is one of the few shows that can not only jump the shark, but can spend most of its season swimming with them.

exactly. Yes it jumped the shark a long time ago, but I don't care about the absurdities as long as it's still entertaining.

Season One was to prevent a Presidential assassination and he was assassinated anyway in Season Five.

Season Two was to prevent a nuke from exploding in LA and one did anyway in Season Six.

Season Three was to prevent biological weapons from spreading through LA and.....I wonder what Season Seven will bring?

24 has followed the same progression as an Irwin Allen show, with each season being worse than the last. Season 3 was the last truly good one, but season 4 was enjoyably bad like an episode of Charlie's Angels. Season 5 was just plain bad, and season 6 isn't looking good, and I think I'm bailing in favor of Heroes.

Typically, most seasons are pretty well self-contained. But, there are characters and events from previous seasons that are brought into the story. Will you be lost? Likely no, but having seen the entire series will give you a much better idea of what's going on.

Last night had a important reveal that somebody fairly new to the series won't appreciate or understand.

I tend to think/say the first three seasons are tied together with plotlines & characters. Almost like a trilogy. Four, Five & Six all stand on their own.

That's fairly accurate.

Season 1 - 3: Jack Bauer Power Hour
Season 4 - 6: The Chinese Connection

24 jumps the shark. Then it interrogates it and shoots Mrs Shark in the kneecaps.

Just enjoy it. Tres fun.

Just curious, but why do people want to jump into the current season without seeing previous ones? I don't understand the logic. You are lucky enough to be able to watch all the seasons on dvd without both commercials and one week breaks, PLUS the ability to catch up on everything that has previously occurred...and you want to jump from season 1 to 6??

Ratings and Emmy awards would say otherwise. To each his own I guess. While I think Heroes is pretty good, I don't think is has legs for 6 seasons. If I had to choose between the two I'd take 24.

Jack Bauer doesn't jump sharks, he torchures them until they reveal the location of their head shark, then he manages, with the help of Cloe to kill the head sharks at hour 24.
