Until I read your post I hadn't even thought about Lana not appearing. It was definitely better because of it.

I have to agree with everyone else. Spin-off! I'd love to see the series end with Clark leaving Smallville to join the Justice League and the following season see a Justice League series. I mean at this point the only ties they have to Smallville is one random scene that takes place on the Kent farm. Everything else is in Metropolis already.

Was that the same kid that played Bart before? He seemed different. Aquaman was MUCH better. They toned the 'dude/surfer' speak way down.

Kyle Gallner (better known as "Beaver" on Veronica Mars) originally played Bart Allen in "Run" in his first appearance in Smallville. I think he had shorter hair back then in that episode. Kyle returned to play Bart in last night's episode as well. So did Alan Ritchson, who was Aquaman 2 seasons ago, and returned last night as well.

What's really funny is that the Aquaman pilot "Mercy Reef" (not picked up for this season) featured a different actor playing Aquaman, and he turned out to be Justin Hartley, who then was cast as Green Arrow in Smallville. Strange, but true.

Unfortunately, if there was a JLA spinoff, Joe Sixpack would dismiss it as a Heroes copycat.

Next week looks like the bad Buffy episode where she was in the nut house. Though one good part is
Spoiler:
The Martian-Manhunter is supposed to show up again.
He's already been in an episode?

A little on the cornball side, but still enjoyable. Absolutely love the "heroes" shot of walking away from the building.

Spoiler:

Any one think he was the voice mentioning Jor-El in the preview and perhaps the face (Phil LaMarr was it?) briefly seen in the window?

He saved Clark at the end of the episode with the phantom zoner that fed on bones. All you saw was the red eyes, then he flew off.

I assumed the Martian Manhunter was suppose to be in this ep. too. I thought he was the one that was going to put the team together like in the comics and JL tv series'.

I was trying to explain that to a friend last night. Aquaman was to be spun off but played not by the Actor who played him but by the guy who is now playing Green Arrow.
That must have been awkward on the set.

Agreed. The perfect capstone to this season would be the permanent departure of Lana and Clark officially joining the Justice League at the end of next season (leading into a JL spin-off show).

Definitely ready to cheer on a spinoff! And that "heroes" shot - am I the only one who immediately thought of The Right Stuff?

This was the first "live airing" Ep I've watched of the show since about this time last year, and what a one to come in on. I still haven't caught up on the Season 5 DVD, and have seen none of this year, but have kept up a bit with what's going on, so I wasn't totally lost.

Nice to see the beginings of the Justice League - at least the "Smallville" version of it, that is - and yes, I too would be down with a spin off. Sadly, though, I doubt it'll happen. But here's to hoping.

And maybe it's just been my extened time away from viewing the show, but I could swear almost all the main players (Clark, Clohe and Lex) seemed a bit fatter in the face. (i.e. put on some weight). Am I wrong?

Man, the 70's kid in me really wanted that last line of the show by Chloe to be, "Clark, you realy have some Super Friends."

Why bother following the comic books now...?

And I never read spoilers about shows I care about...

Seriously cool episode for a few reasons.

1: All the homages ... I love the fact they paid homage to the Justice League opening with that final shot of them walking away.

2: It was nice to see all these people in a group, doing what they do best.

3: No LANA!!!!!!!!1

With that said, it may also be the downfall of Smallville. This show really started to come back when they brought in the Green Arrow and now it appears they are ready to write him off. It really is a stupid move, if that is the case. With that said, you can also tell that the Green Arrow character was them just wanting to bring in a young Batman, it was most notable with the speech he gave at the end of this episode.

That Justin Hartley has charisma, something Tom Welling lacks.
Justin would have made a terrific Bruce Wayne.
Green arrow is what has made the season interesting to me.
Louis being in skimpy outfits near Oilver has not hurt either

That's true; the writers took a lot of liberties w/ the Superman myth but having the Martian Manhunter put the team together would have been cool. It woudn't have been a huge thing to insert him into the storyline. He could have been the one to recruit GA and the rest of the JL and go on w/ the same story they had shown.

Now it looks like he will most likely be part of the Zoner episodes.
