Does Millennium have a story arc?
Hi,
I recently ordered the complete series of Millennium as a blind buy just because it was so cheap during all these online sales (probably 13 bucks a season), but was wondering if it does have a story arc, or is it just weekly exploits?
I'm on the 2nd disc of season 1 and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere with a continuous story.
I don't really feel like a story of the week show right now, I'd rather watch a show with a story arc.
I also just bought the Wire season 1 and 2 during the best buy sale sunday and I know those are heavily story based, and I might just watch those now,If millennium isn't gonna start a story yet.
any help would be appreciated, hope you all had a Merry Christmas.

Merry Xmas. The first season is really standalone episodes but the second season has a long storyline involving the Millennium Group. This season is different in tone and the supernatural plays a big role. It has a dissapointing ending though or more importantly the 3rd season opening is dissapointing. Chris Carter was under the impression that their cancelation was iminent after the second season so much of that finale was supposed to be a series finale. The 3rd season starts with no mention of what happened. The only thing "story arc" wise in season 1 involves Frank's daughter. There is this thing called Legion though which connects all three seasons. Also Frank's nemesis is a demonic woman named Lucy Butler throughout all three seasons.
Either way this is a really good show. It could have been better if Chris Carter was actively involved after the first season but he left it in the hands of Glen Morgan and James Wong who wanted a mythology for the Group which was only a secondary entity in the first season.

I thought the first season was really good but after that the wheels came off IMO. If I remember correctly the original shoe runner left and after that they tried to turn Millennium into the X-Files.

The 1st season was more of a weekly procedural crime drama with a very dark X-Files feel to it since Chris Carter was running the show.
I missed most of the 2nd season, but James Wong and Glen Morgan totally revamped the show and made it more of a Supernatural serial. Some of the episodes I did see were a little on the wacky side.
The final season went back to being more of a procedural drama. Morgan and Wong were replaced as show runners and they brought in Klea Scott to be Frank's partner on cases they investigated. I actually caught most of this season and really enjoyed it, but it was too little too late. The ratings sucked and FOX cancelled it.

it was great while it lasted.....but it got bogged down in a sloppily written story toward the end....in my opinion anyway.
but i loved the series and looked forward to it....more so than the x-files actually. if and when i get a tatoo, it will be an ouroboros.
i forget which season it was, but the 'devils' episode was pretty funny and good. even without much frank black in it.

Agreed, but the best was the Josie Chung episode - his X-Files episode was great as well, maybe my favorite of both series.

this is/will most likely always be my favorite tv show. I loved season 2 and still wish Morgan & Wong could have stayed in control for season 3 just to see what else they would have done.
by the way, did anyone know that they(M & W) wanted to do a sequel to the X-Files ep. "Home" on Millennium but Fox supposedly killed that idea?

Once the series lost Megan Gallagher(wife)
It was pretty much down hill.
Frank was pretty much screwed.
As he had nobody to really come home
to but a very young (gifted) daughter.
And the series was actually based upon
the love of his family/faith. Anyways.
This series suffered many problems.
Though not as many as Harsh Realm
or the Lone Gunman.
Still the 1st 2 seasons are very good
up until the last ep of season 2.

The "Jose Chung" episode was brilliant! I had to watch the part of the "fantasy" Frank in the Hawiian shirt 3 times in a row because it was so funny!
"Woah! is that blood?!"
I was always a big fan of the show (helps being a Terry O'Quinn fan), I liked the darkness of the show and I thought the second season is one of the best seasons of any tv show.
I felt the last season was abit disjointed aswell but they tried their best, and lets face it, nowadays Fox wouldn't have given them that last season.

After their short return stint on "X-Files" and "Millennium" during the first half of seasons 4 and 1, respectively, they tried to get one of their own projects off the ground.
When they returned to "Millennium" in season 2 they were full-fledged showrunners and they penned literally half of the scripts of that season. They had their hands full with "Millennium" to say the least.
They left the show on bad terms and never worked with Chris Carter, Ten Thirteen or Fox again. Knowing that, such a "Home" sequel would have either had to have been proposed during season 5 of "The X-Files" when they were swamped on "Millennium", the later half of season 4 when they were doing their own thing (and which would have been pretty soon after "Home" to be making a sequel) or in seasons 6-9 when they weren't involved with the show in any way, shape or form.
Edit: I didn't realize that you meant "Millennium" and not "X-Files" but I've still never heard of such a thing. I don't think the Peacocks would work well in "Millennium" and Fox apparantly had no problem with them bringing Jose Chung onto "Millennium" from "The X-Files".

As others have said, there's very little "arc" in the first season. It's more of a CSI-style procedural with a serial killer/murder/mystery of the week.
The second season opens by resolving the cliffhanger at the end of season one. And then there's a huge shift in tone and theme. I'll spoiler this, but I'm not giving anything too specific away. In the second season it is revealed that
The third season is where it fell apart. After the shocking finale of season two, they sort of hit the reset button and turned it into an X-Files clone. (I only bought season one and two on DVD, and don't really have any desire to own season three.)
I really wish they would have continued the series in the same direction season two took. It could've been really awesome, esp. leading up to the real millennium.
Actually, when you look at all three seasons, there's not much of an arc between all three. Each season definitely has its own thing going on, probably because it was retooled between each season while Fox was trying to find a formula they liked for the series.
