Have you ever turned on Comedy Central late night, after 12am or so (not sure if it is only Saturdays), but they show movies. One I saw was "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut", another, last night at 1am was "Bad Santa".

To my amazement they didn't bleep any cussing. Of course, I've heard s*it and *sshole on FX's series. But, Comedy Central airs f*ck and every variation of it.

They didn't bleep any of the "Uncle F*cker" song from South Park. I couldn't believe it. And then last night nothing bleeped in "Bad Santa".

I don't understand how basic cable can air such things. Anyone notice this and know why they can?

I may be wrong, but it's to my understanding that there isn't actually any constraints put on cable by the FCC (they only cover public airwaves), and that censoring is self-administered. Which means they could show this content any time of day, but choose not to, or choose to only show it very late at night.

Again, I'm sort of hazy on this, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I caught the William Shatner roast late one night, and I was like "Holy crap!" I had to double check to make sure I hadn't accidentally clicked on PPV.

I caught Bad Santa as well as the first Jackass movie and 90-minute standups from Dave Chappelle and Katt Williams all uncut over the last few weeks. Every Friday and Saturday night at 1:00 AM I believe.

I think the FCC cutoff is Midnight but most networks are still afraid to air stuff anyway.

Been waiting for Comedy Central to air the uncensored version.

As long as the advertisers are fine with it (and those particular ones that are buying airtime after midnight probably love it)... a cable channel can show whatever it wants.

In the U.S.? Are you kidding? Can't be having any nudity! Cuss words and murder after grisly murder is ok though!

I've seen T&A on there numerous times after midnight. That said I believe the FCC cutoff for Broadcast channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, WB, etc; ) is 10:00 pm, and starts again at I think 6:00 am. Many of the complaints for shows that usually air at 10:00 pm come in because they air at 9:00 pm Central time.

Cable is unregulated if it isn't offered over the air in any location (I believe some places get TNT and TBS standard. Thus their movies are butchered.) Which is how South Park got away with the Shit episode airing at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and the secret stash -- which they keep at late night to avoid being fucked over by parenting groups and thus advertisers.

I remember watch SP:BLU a couple of years ago on CC uncut. I thought that was just a one time thing. Now I know that they show stuff late at night with no dubbing, I'm going to check it out.

Yep, the FCC has no control over cable. The FCC regulates the "public airwaves"--cable is a privately-owned system.

Any censoring on cable is done voluntarily by the network. Nickelodeon could show porn if it wanted.

The FCC does regulate the cable industry, but the standards are indeed different than from broadcasters.

Regulating the wiring system, signals, antennas, etc for cable (which is what your quoted wiki is talking about) is a lot different from governing content.

The FCC has fought to get control over content but has failed to win that authority.

The public owns the air and therefore we own the airwaves. Broadcasters use those public airwaves so they cannot use "our" air to transmit offensoive material. Cable is a privately-owned system with viewers who voluntary sign up to receive the programming. That's different.

Apparantly, Comedy Central are full of it as when the aired the supposed uncut Trading Places the other day, they zoomed in to avoid showing Jamie Lee's titties.

Also they blurred the nudity in the jackass movie.

Technically, if they show the scene and blur or zoom to hide the nudity, it's still "uncut" since the scene is intact.

They actually use the phrase: Uncut, Uncensored & Unedited before each break.

OMG, That Lisa Lampinelli show was freakin' classic tonight. I'd only seen her for a few minutes here and there on Roasts but this was 90 minutes of non-stop laughter (except for the commercials). One of the best stand-ups ever. Not for the thin-skinned though. Great audience.

well, Not Another Teen Movie is on now. I just turned it on, so I don't know if they'll show "All" of the exchange student or not, but i will update the threade with the anwser.
