The closest thing to a Cyberman origin story is "Tenth Planet," the final Hartnell serial. It hasn't, to my knowledge, been released to DVD. It's also missing the fourth and final part of the serial -- though the regeneration scene still exists.

The Daleks are a bit more complicated, as they retconeed the origin of the Daleks during the 1970s.

The "official" origin of the Daleks is in the six-part serial "Genesis of the Daleks" which is available of DVD. This supercedes the origin of the Daleks given in (I think) the Hartnell "Daleks" serial. "Genesis of the Daleks" has the Doctor being sent back in time to the creation of the Daleks on their home world of Skarro to prevent them from existing in the first place so it provides a fairly comprehensive origin.

Would one of the Doctor Who Confidential episodes cover the Dalek/Cybermen origins as well? I have only seen a couple, but they were great for bringing me up to speed. Wish they all would come out on DVD.

I really hope this doesn't have any validity behind it. I like Tennant, however I suppose Eccelston is "my" Doctor since he was my real introduction to the show. At times I miss Eccleston, but as I said earlier I like Tennant and am happy we will have Doctor consistency in series 3, but Doctor Who is really gonna annoy me if there is another Doctor in series 4.

I mean could you imagine Kirk or Picard leaving part of the way through their respective series? It just doesn't fit. :(

Oh no.
They denied Billie Piper leaving too and look what happen. I guess most of the Actors who played The Doctor were there for 3 years but still!

How exactly does the events in "Genesis of the Daleks" contradict what happened in "The Daleks"?
