Dexter - "Truth Be Told" - 12/10/06

"Truth Be Told"
Spoiler:
The Ice Truck Killer puts Dexter in a life changing position when he takes someone close to Dexter hostage. Doakes begins to suspect that Dexter's odd behavior is something darker than he originally thought.

Next week is the season finale, seems like this season flew by fast.

I thought Spike Lee directed this episode, based on the opening shots.

Deb's going to be turned off of men for a while, I think.

I agree. This season has flown by. It's going to be tough to wait a week for the finale.

Well, everyone can't be as normal and straight-up as her big brother, can they?

I really hope that the season finale is not a cliffhanger, and wraps up the Ice Truck Killer storyline.

Well originally I thought that the ITK and Dexter were brothers or something, but after last nights show he could be a son one of the other 3 people that got killed. Its going to be interesting to see how as of this pans out.

Anyone read the books? Do they follow the show or not? Books better or worse?

Spoiler:
In the book he is Dexter's older brother (going back to the incident Dexter has been having trouble remembering) and I think they are going to keep that part. I think they deliberately used an actor with enough of a physical similarity to make it believable but without making it too obvious.

I read the first book but haven't read the second. This season seems to be based on the first book but is adding a lot. The book was OK, based on a great premise but somewhat lacking in story. The additions and changes made in the show have filled out things and actually, I think, make the show much better than the book.

I'll second that I think the show improves on the books, although I really enjoyed the books. I do not know how they will go in the second season, they could abandon the 2nd book completely. And based on the trailer for next week they may be tweaking the end from the book as well.
Spoiler:
I really hope they tweak the ending for the show, that was one area I thought the book left the story weak.

Great episode! Cannot wait for next week, even though I am sure it will be a cliff hanger.

Yeah, this is one of those rare shows where I'm almost sad I'll have to wait a whole week for the next episode. I hope they don't leave too much of a cliffhanger next week. I don't mind twists in cliffhangers, but I hate when they completely leave it unresolved, because those sorts of cliffhangers always lose a lot of impact to me by the time they finally get around to resolving them. Either that or the resolution is a letdown after the big buildup.

I had free showtime for 4 months because of a directv screw up, which ended on saturday, but thanks to this show I got fooled into buying another month. it was worth it.

Next week is going to be a doozy! Can't wait for the next episode. This is how you do a cliffhanger, the slow buildup is so sublime.

Wonder how the Lt. will get her revenge on the captain.

Great episode this week that really sets up for a promising finale.

Of note: Keith Gordon (A Midnight Clear, Waking the Dead) directed this episode.

Unless the Ice Truck killer doesn't expect to come back alive (maybe to sink along with the ship?), how is it he expects the clues around Deb's disappearance to go unnoticed by the police?---like the long phonecall the other cop heard at the wipeboard?

Spoiler:
If they follow the book, it will be the ultimate revenge on him.

I feel like he's trying to lure Dexter somewhere. His motivations aren't entirely clear yet, but I don't think he particularly cares if he lives/dies/gets away once his business with Dex is finished.

My first thought was Scorsese-inspired... think Mean Streets.

Have to wait until tomorrow to watch the last episode. Until then I won't be able to do anything but think about the finale.
