This isn't the most interesting or comprehensive review that I have done, but it is better than nothing I suppose.
Cold Opening: It is never a good idea to start the show with a seven minute long, painfully unfunny skit. Monologue: Typical monologue fare. Sale Mart: They are being critical of Wal-Mart, but then they make fun of the cheap generic drugs, which is actually a good thing as far as I can tell. Odd. Nancy Grace: The second Michael Richards related bit of the evening. Another dull skit. Deep House Dish: This skit has been awful every single time it has been on. Why bring it back now? Lost elevator discussion: Dull Tenacious D (song 1): Not one of their better songs. Weekend Update:12 minutes long. It seems like this is getting longer every week. Unfortunately, it is not getting any better. Crazy Mountain Man: Awful History vs. Math: It was kind of dumb, but I liked it. Mayan Chocolate: Horrid Tenacious D (Song 2): Better than the first one. The “skit” part of the performance was kind of odd. Overall, this episode was terrible. My rating:D- The history vs. math skit was the only thing that saved it from an F. |
Finally finished watching the rest of the episode.
Cold Open I thought this was one of the best openers of the season. I miss Will Forte's Bush, but he was hilarious here as the translator and Armisen as the mumbling Iraqi PM who never broke character. I was rolling when he started talking about camel-bombs and mouse-bombs. Funny stuff. Monologue The Kramer impression was hilarious and thankfully saved us from the dull Matthew Fox. Salemart This was so true, I wasn't sure it was funny. Nancy Grace Longest skit ever. I think with the smaller cast and budget cuts they are stretching the skits out longer to save on costume & set changes. I do like Poehler's Nancy Grace sneer in the opening credits, but she needs to be much more shrill and aggressive. Her Nancy Grace seems like she is on Valium. Deep House Dish Maya Rudolph made me laugh as always. All she has to do is sing and she cracks me up. Other than that, I wish they would stop it with this sketch. Lost fans This was great, lots of good laughs. Best skit of the night. It was like a DVD Talk Lost thread in an elevator. Weekend Update Pretty good, lots of good jokes. Liked Jackson & Sharpton "Kramer what?" Aunt Linda is shaping up to a funny recurring character. And Thank you, Amy Poehler for finally addressing the hairless pink elephant in the room. So tired of this new trend that requires women to make their vaginas look like they did before they hit puberty. Mountain man This would have been a very funny sketch if the host was someone like George Clooney, but Matthew Fox? In what alternate universe is he some irresistible male specimen? I don't get it. He seems bland & winy to me. So I can't believe that Poehler and Wiig would be trying to hit on him. Math whiz Gotta wonder how this one made it out of the pitch meeting. The only laugh was when Forte broke the glass in his hand. History Channel Yet another WTF skit. Can't they parody a TV show or a news story or something topical instead of these drug induced skit ideas? There were a few good things to redeem the episode (and definitely NOT the "musical" guest.) Overall it was sucky city, though. Final grade: C- |

Well, to be fair, the Mayan thing is somewhat topical, with Apocalypto about to be released.

Guys, please stop spoiling other shows. It is unnecessary and just angers people. Any more off-topic spoilers will be removed.

Wow - I actually thought this was one of the funnier episodes in awhile. Several "laugh-out-loud" funny moments - most have been mentioned but I haven't laughed like that while watching SNL in awhile. Of course, I DVR'ed it so I skipped Nancy Grace, Tenacious D and the History skit. Most of the rest I liked...
Thought the elevator skit was hilarious - reminded of "Gonna go back in tiiiiime...." with Michael J. Fox. I also thought most of the Weekend Update was pretty good. Loved the "beav" speech. I thought the mountain man skit was funny, too - I remember being all WTF when it started... I would've loved to have scene a funny lost skit where they dress up like the characters but oh well... Anyway - I'd give it a solid A- (for the parts I watched). |
Wow, this thread makes the SNL sketch funnier. We can't mention things that happened in Twin Peaks without someone bitching about it and a mod chiming in?? So are we basically expected to spoilerize everything we say on this site?
