Eh, too normal. I was hoping for someone whose was was a bit more arsed, like Mickey Rourke or Maggie Gyllenhall.

I really hope AMC didn't cast her as Tulip (trust me, this was a network decision) since she had been on Agents of SHIELD.

I am not complaining because I really don't care about Preacher. I think translating Preacher from the comics to television is a far tougher writing job than The Walking Dead. Nothing I have ever seen on AMC makes me believe they can accomplish it.

Agreed. This is my holy grail and the first 2 castings have left me disappointed in the direction this seems to be heading. And that's not even taking into consideration that Rogen is involved.

I care about this project since I loved the comic series. Having read the behind the scenes going on with The Walking Dead, AMC is more concerned about budget than anything else. The casting is not what I envisioned but I'll hold judgement until I see the pilot.

Honestly, this guy will be under a full prosthetic mask so all the needed was a guy with a roundish face and a weak chin. I can't imagine why anyone would care about his casting at all.

Not crazy about Tulip, but I'll it might work out just fine. I'm happy Ennis is involved, and he's happy with everything so far. He is very protective of his work which is why he's getting full creative control of the Crossed pilot & series.

I don't think Arseface's casting is any kind of big deal. As noted, he'll probably be pretty unrecognizable and subtitled.

Now that Negga's cast as Tulip, I'm hoping the rest of the mains will be cast fairly spot on. Still not thrilled with Rogen having such a big involvement and it being on AMC, but maybe it will turn out OK.

I saw someone somewhere bring up Wayne Pygram's (Scorpius from Farscape) name as good casting as Starr and would agree.

Make it happen AMC! The guy's schedule has to be pretty clear ... working only 1 night a year as it stands.

Wow, my first "dream pick" that actually got cast.

http://deadline.com/2015/03/preacher...ic-1201397867/

EXCLUSIVE: AMC’s Preacher has cast another co-lead. British actor Joseph Gilgun (This Is England) has joined the drama pilot based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. The project, from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Sony TV and AMC Studios, is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

Jesse’s sidekick Cassidy is described as the most wild-ass, bestest “bro” you’d ever want to meet. He may be 100 years dead but no one’s more boisterously alive than Proinsias Cassidy. An incorrigible mischief-maker, Cassidy’s up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence.

In addition to Negga, Gilgun joins Ian Colletti who was cast as Eugene Root, aka Arseface. Dominic Cooper has been in conversations for the lead, Jesse.

While he has been steadily working in film in TV in his native England for a decade, Preacher marks only Gilgun’s second U.S. gig — he is co-starring opposite Vin Diesel in the upcoming feature The Last Witch Hunter. Gilgun is repped by UK’s Hamilton Hodell and Peikoff Mahan.

Dominic Cooper in as Jesse, Lucy Griffiths as some sassy character.
She looks like Amy though.

After lengthy negotiations, Dominic Cooper has closed a deal to play the lead in AMC drama pilot Preacher, based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. The project, from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Sony TV and AMC Studios, centers on Jesse Custer (Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God. The cast also includes Lucy Griffiths who plays Emily, and Ian Colletti, who plays Eugene Root, aka Arseface. Cooper is with CAA and UK Agent Alex Irwin

Re: Preacher Series Coming to AMC - Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg developing

The announced cast for AMC's "Preacher" pilot has grown once again. Deadline has word that Elizabeth Perkins has been cast in the role of lead character Jesse Custer's mother, Vyla Quinncannon -- which would be a name change from the source material, as Jesse's mother was Christina Custer in the comic books by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

Here's the description of Vyla Quinncannon: "A genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville. Ambitious, strong-willed and terrifying, Vyla shares a past with Jesse’s father which gives her a singular hold over Jesse."
No problem with Elizabeth Perkins, but this is sounding like it's really going off the fucking rails. "Quincannon?" "Strong-willed and terrifying?" "A singular hold over Jesse?"

WTF?

It sounds like they're making Jesse's mother a cross between "Grandma" and Odin Quincannon. They're essentially re-writing Jesse's entire past now.

The original story was pretty a much a road story following a trio of Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy. Now it looks like they're adding Arseface as a regular, a new female friend, and now Jesse's mother, so presumably they're going to tie the series down to one physical location (presumably Annville, Texas), or have them traveling around in a fucking bus.

Hate to say it, but this is starting to sound like an Under the Dome-level clusterfuck.

It's been a while since I've read the books, was Arseface a regular character right from the beginning? Considering they're just casting for a pilot.

No, Arseface wasn't a regular character. He only put in a handful of appearances; he showed up in the first arc, then again toward the middle of the series, then a couple more smaller appearances. Recurring guest star at best, so I wouldn't think they would announce actors at the pilot stage unless they're going to be regulars.

From what I recall (and looking at the covers), Arseface appeared in #2-4, 29-33, 38-40, 58, 62, and the Arseface Special, which told his origin. And even then, he doesn't spend much time interacting with Jesse, Tulip, and Cass outside of the #29-33 arc.

Read a few more sites, and not all claim that Perkins is playing Jesse's mother, some just mention that she has a past with his father while others say mother.

Really, Arseface showed up as early as issue 2? I don't remember that, wow.

Curious to see whether Arseface is going to get subtitled or if they will have him speak normally.

You know how sometimes they're doing an adaption of a comic book, and it seems like every creative choice is the wrong one, and you're wondering what the fuck they're thinking?

This seems to be shaping up to be one of those.

Not seeing that so far. Well, aside from Tulip casting being an odd one. The writing talent they got lined up so far is decent so I got hope it'll pan out well. And Garth so far is happy with what he's seen... so there's that.

Ordered to series. Most likely will get a 10 episode order. Seth Rogen was actually the one who officially announced it on his Twitter feed.
