Galactica Moving to Sundays

So - big deal, or not so much?

It won't affect people with tivo but it could affect ratings.
Could be it's last season.

Edge 11-24-06 09:22 PM

I have mixed feelings about the move. I was never watching it on Fridays since I recorded it. But Dexter is also on at 10PM on Sundays which is not good for me.

Why are the ratings down this season?

mikehunt 11-24-06 09:52 PM

bad move

I would say the ratings are down because they moved it away from the Stargates.

That may be true. I know more people that watch the SG's that don't even sniff BG. I don't know why that is.

Since SG1 is going away, I figured the troika of Doctor Who, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica would be a great night of geek TV.

Oh well....Sundays at 9pm CST is good for me, too. I just hate the fact that Sci-Fi wants to move it around. It means the network is thinking, and bad things happen when networks think.

Jason 11-25-06 08:02 AM

What does Sci-Fi run on Sunday nights now? Crappy movies? Maybe they want to build a new evening of original programming and are using this as a tentpole.

Looks like they want to give a boost to "The Dresden Files".

Personally I mourn the loss of SciFi Friday. Doctor Who doesn't have long seasons, SG-1 is about to be cancelled - besides Atlantis, what else will they put in that isn't more horror or supernaturally inclined?

Looks like Bonnie Hunter's wish to take the "sci" out of "SciFi" is working.

Is the Caprica spin-off dead? Are there no other new shows in the pipeline?

Cusm 11-25-06 11:11 AM

Horrible idea. Sundays is my busiest night and even with a 2 tuner DVR I have to sacrafice some shows, all I need is another show on Sunday, and I may not be able to get the rebroadcast later as I already catcht the Dexter rebroadcast.

TGM 11-25-06 11:48 AM

bad idea jeans.

Still alive, but (last report) it's being retooled to be more "family friendly". And it probably won't be as space-based as Galactica, being more about the development of the Cylons and life on the capital planet.

Sure, there are probably more new shows being developed, but horror and supernatural are cheaper to do effects-wise. I figure that a few episodes of Galactica would pay for a while season of The Dresden Files.

BJacks 11-25-06 01:06 PM

Caprica is still in early development; it has NOT been greenlit as a production. Right now it's just a bunch of ideas on paper and in the head of Ron Moore. That said, it was never designed as a space show...it follows a number of families on the planet, one of whom are the Adamas (with young William being around 5-8 or so).

calhoun07 11-25-06 01:37 PM

I liked it on Friday night. There was never anything else on worth watching.

Orbi-Wan Techno 11-25-06 09:13 PM

With Galactica moving to Sunday nights, it means I'll continue to DVR, but watch on Mondays prior to Heroes.

By which I hear "stuff for the kiddies". Bleh! Do you have any idea why studio execs think "family friendly" and "sci fi" go together? Every sci-fi fan I know hates child characters (geniuses all: yech!) and most anything else intended to attract 10 year olds. Ideas like Boxy on the original BSG, the kid on Earth 2, and Wesley Crusher should be shot dead before a single frame is filmed. I think that's why BSG '06 is so successful: it's an adult drama that appeals to hardcore genre fans, and doesn't dilute itself with "child in peril" or "child solves the unsolvable".

TGM 11-26-06 08:41 AM

Maybe this is where we will see more adventures of Daggit and Boxie! yay!!!!

<sarcasm>

bboisvert 11-27-06 10:39 AM

Meh... I have no strong feelings about this. I can watch it Sunday night just as easily as Friday (probably more easily actually). And aren't the ratings down this year? A move may help.

adamblast 11-27-06 10:52 AM

No specific worries about a move to Sundays, but this is very true:

nodeerforamonth 11-27-06 12:08 PM

Great move. Yeah, it will affect ratings. For the better. Come on, Friday nights? Who the hell is home on a Friday night?

Draven 11-27-06 12:14 PM

Works for me - I have no other TV recording to do on Sunday night so this won't affect me at all Tivo-wise.

Pistol Pete 11-27-06 04:25 PM

Great. Stupid move, IMO.

When I was a teenage geek, Friday night was when I controlled the TV while Mom and Dad ignored me. Sunday night was family night when Mom and Dad liked to watch 60 minutes followed by a movie. No way I could have watched something like BSG.

Jason 11-27-06 04:56 PM

Wasn't BSG originally aired on Sunday nights on ABC?

I really hope the "retooled" rumor is just that. Of course, if all they do is tone down the phony swearing, I can live with it.

I hope Boxey lived on Cloud Nine.
