Iron Chef America - Rachael Ray vs Giada De Laurentiis - 11/12/06

Episode IA0319

November 12, 2006 9:00 PM ET/PT

Flay/DeLaurentiis vs. Batali/Ray
In a special Iron Chef America presentation, Food Network All Stars Rachael Ray and Giada De Laurentiis come to Kitchen Stadium to battle it out. In a special twist, the Chairman decides to pair them with Iron Chefs Bobby Flay and Mario Batali in an unexpected battle that is only fit for Food Network All Stars. Which pairs’ cuisine will reign supreme?
Sounds like an interesting little contest between the two. Who do you guys think will win?

we'll be watching this tonight. I'm curious to see what the ingrediant is and how well the food network girls hold up for 60 minutes. I'm going with Rachael and Batalli.

It would have been funnier had it been Flay/Ray.

The ingredient has already been announced on Food TV's "Iron Chef America" page... but I'll spoilerize it for you:

Spoiler:
Battle Cranberry

I'll be tuning in!

I think that Giada is definitely a better cook than Rachel. However, I also think that Batali is much better than Flay. I would put my money on Batali & Ray to win on the strength of Mario's cooking chops.

Watching Gaida De Laurentis cook is better than watching porn.

Not when she'll be covered up in a chef coat. No cleavage for me to avert my gaze from her massive head.

The way they film her show and the cheezy music they use have often made me check to see if I've stumble onto Skinemax instead of the Food Network.

I'd like to see Ray cover Giada in EVOO.

That's pretty much the way it played out. I like that the judges were as uninpressed with Rachel's drunken pasta as it looked to me when she was making it.

I think my biggest surprise was how much FoodTV was playing on the fact that neither of them are chefs or apparently know how to cook (*sarcasm*). Either way, I found the whole premise a bit odd that these two big FoodTV stars can't really cook in a kitchen.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Giada is a trained chef and worked for Wolfgang Puck for a while(I'm pretty sure that I read that somewhere). Rachel on the other hand ...

"De Laurentiis studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France before becoming a professional chef, working in several Los Angeles restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck's Spago."

Rachel Ray can cook as well, but she's not a classically trained chef.

Giada should get 10 extra points for best cleavage. As was stated, it helps keep the focus off her huge cranium. Also, deduct 10 points from Rachael for being incredibly annoying at times(queue up little hehe laugh).

I loved it when Rachel confessed that she's not a chef but a cooker.

I haven't seen a lot of American IC, but I've seen several episodes of each contestant's individual shows. I put my vote on Giada/Flay probably because i underestimated Mario's skill. I figured Flay was about equal to Mario but Giada would cook rings around Rachel, at least in this gourmet type contest. However, now that I think about it Mario is like a culinary encyclopedia on his show, and it's not just reading off cue cards. I don't think I've ever seen him on IC, but I imagine he can think on his feet very well.

See, it would have made a world of difference if she had one of those tight fitting low cut American Apparal t-shirts she usually wears (instead of her chef coat) when she was jumping up and down. Heck, even the ICTV staff knew to replay that in slow motion.

By all accounts, Batalli is a fantastic chef. Unfortunately his sausage fingers really turn me off.
