I loved Lost during the first season, and through most of the second. But the show is evolving at way too quick a pace and not always for the better.

Finally got a chance to watch this. Great episode, though the ending could have been better for the fall finale.

Can't wait for the spring season.

Spoiler:
For one, there's the show's slow evolution from the "monster-of-the-week" type show it was originally intended to be to an ensemble cast drama like Buffy. There's the sudden disappearance of characters, like Doyle, whose reasons for being written out of the show are still debated. Kate Lockley likewise pretty suddenly disappears in season 2. Other characters are clearly expanded on from initial guest roles, like Lorne, who's character eventually progressed to main cast. Skip seemed to be a one-off character who had additional appearances due to positive fan response, although his final turn seemed awkwardly out-of-character and unplanned.

However, some characters have much more confusing roles. For example, Gwen Raiden is introduced and used as a recurring character, although her role never really expands and then is abruptly abandoned.

Other times, storylines appear or disappear abruptly. The 4-part season 2 ender has been admitted to have been a last-minute plot development. Which means Winifred was a last-minute unplanned character, one that was greatly expanded on.

Spike, of course, couldn't have had a storyline on Angel planned until it was known what his end on Buffy would be. Likewise, there were rumors that his character was added as a condition for Angel's renewal for a fifth season.

I'm pretty sure most of Angel Seasons 2-4 was made up as they were going. At least in part because storyarcs they had planned had to be abandoned due to offscreen issues. Julie Benz(Darla) left to film the Glory Days pilot, so they had to introduce the Pylea plotline. Charisma Carpenter got pregnant, so that caused the entire Season 4 storyline to be rewritten.

And if you watch the supplements on the Season 3 boxset, they came out and admitted that Darla's pregnancy was something they just pulled out of their ass. It was never planned back in Season 2 and I seriously doubt the explanation that was offered in Season 4 for how she got pregnant was decided on way ahead of time.

Of course, shows like Buffy, Angel, and 24 are able to get away with making things up as they go because they have really good writing staffs. The same cannot be said for Lost IMO. Sometimes they get it right. But honestly since the last 1/3 of Season 1, this show has been on a creative downward spiral.

kenage 11-13-06 06:04 PM

I would prefer that we never see Michael or Walt ever again. Walt would be ok since he fits in with the others storyline, but there is nothing they could do with Michael that would make me welcome him back. They killed his character too much before he left on the boat.

I have a feeling michael and walt get found and desmond's woman penny contacts michael and they both go back and try to get their friends. michael can't be gone for good, he's done too much bad and now he must do good.

So, there are people here who follow the Lost podcast right?

Well, I could have SWORN that C&C said they would come back after "I Do" aired and rehash it and answer questions like they always do, but I haven't seen that podcast yet. Is my iTunes broken or did they not do one?

This probably doesn't need to be spoilered, but just in case:

Spoiler:
I know that there was still a lot of speculation, but I just listened to the latest podcast, and according to Cuse and Lindelof, Kate has definitely made her decision, and it is Sawyer.

If you missed the LOST promos on Daybreak, the last one had:

Spoiler:
showed Jack locked up in the cage that Sawyer had previously been in, and the flight attendant (Cathy?) who had been with the Taillies was talking to him. The implication being that the Others did not let Jack go as promised.

Are all the Season 6 episodes available at ABC's website? I just got my sister into the show and I didn't have the foresight to save any of them on my DVR. She wants to catch up, but doesn't want to wait until Sept. for the DVDs. Any chance ABC will run a marathon or something before the premiere of the 7th episode?

If they're going to have a resolution to Walt's storyline then they're going to have to hurry up. Only a few months are supposed to have passed since the plane crash, yet Malcolm David Kelley is two years older in real life. He's hitting puberty and is bound to age very noticeably. I would think if they're going to do anything more with him then they're going to have to get it done soon (unless they pre-shot a bunch of scenes we don't know about). I would like to see Michael return, however.

Oh, Dear Lord, if I have to hear that sonofabitch scream "THEY TOOK MY SON!" one more time, Im going to stick a pair of needle-nose pliers in both ears. Good riddance to Michael -- my disdain for him is so bad that I actually loathe his character in the second Matrix movie.

It didn't help that my local radio station interviewed him last year and he came across like a total pompous ass.

I disagree. They should bring Michael back ... so he can go through a slow, agonizing death. I typically don't get emotionally invested in TV characters, but I definately hate Michael.

Oddly enough, if that is true, those two characters are ruined for me. It works for me as a triangle or as Kate/Jack. That way does not seem to fit what I thought had been spelled out in earlier seasons and I will lose attachment to those two. Not sure why, just doesn't fit right in my mind.

Yes, exactly. I'd like to see Michael return so he can face the music, not so he can reintegrate himself back into the tribe again.

did anyone catch the "Lost moment" they showed during Grey's Anatomy this week?

The showed Jack lying on a bed watching an

Asian woman (who looked to me like Bai Ling) who then came over and started making out with him.
I asked my wife if they are taking the show in some bizarre direction.

Not sure how much more bizarre it could get without becoming Twin Peaks: South Pacific, but I'm pretty sure that Lost Moment is from a flashback.

cheers,

Spoiler:
It's a flashback from episode 9, which is a Jack-centric episode featuring his time in Thailand that will explain the significance and meaning of his tattoos. It's also the episode in which Matthew Fox is rumoured to take his leave of absence for a batch of episodes on the show. Fox wouldn't divulge in interviews why, only to say that he is not getting killed off and there is definately a reason within the story he won't be seen for a while on LOST

Although I posted what was said in the podcast, I read this afterwards:

Spoiler:
I think it was Eonline or Ausiello, but one of the places said that even though Kate has made her decision, it doesn't mean she won't change her mind. This triangle is the worst part of the show for me, and I was optimistic when I heard that Kate had picked Sawyer, but now that they say that she might change her mind, it doesn't bode well in my mind for the new episodes, depending on the timeframe
