30 Rock - "Blind Date" - 10/25/06

Spoiler:
Unbearable network bigwig Jack meddles in Liz's personal life when he sets her up on a blind date with his friend. And there are surprises in the cards when Jack then worms his way into the writers' weekly poker game.

My thoughts:
Spoiler:
I liked this episode. There aren't really any big laughs, but it doesn't feel as awkward as the first two episodes. Baldwin and Fey are featured this week. Krakowski is absent, and we don't see much of Morgan. Sadly, Katie Bowden has only a few seconds of screen time.

Pretty good episode...not many laugh out loud moments, but I really loved the Poker stuff. Baldwin was awesome in this one.

I laughed quite a few times during this episode. The 2 main subplots provide enough laughs to tune in next week as well. The scenes with Baldwin and the Kenny character are gold. As far as Liz goes,
Spoiler:
her scenes with Stephanie March were good for a laugh or two.

Good to see Stephanie March again.

The scenes with Baldwin continue to be gold.

The show seems much more natural now, less forced, characters are more interesting, and it's fairly good. Hopefully it'll stick around.

"Tall red headed guy that always played guitar." "Conan."

That was a good episode.

Lemon choking to realize she should go on the blind date was funny stuff.

"Those shoes are definitely bi-curious."

I just noticed the giant oven picture on Jack's wall...lol...

Kenneth vs. Jack was great...

Where was Jane Krakowski the whole episode?

This show is gold when Baldwin or Morgan are on screen, but I think they actually found something decent for Fey to do this episode. This might just end up being a keeper if they can keep the ratings up.

Good stuff. Is it really that hard to portray a poker game with even the most moderate level of accuracy, though?

If they can continue to concentrate every episode on Baldwin's character, this show will be platinum. Especially w/ a little Morgan thrown in here and there for good measure.

Very funny ep. The Lemon flashbacks were great. Baldwin is so good at what he does I've actually grown to love him even more thanks to this show.

Agreed. I thought there were quite a few laugh out loud moments. This is definitely the best new comedy of 2006 IMO.

It's a winner as far as I am concerned, no questions asked.
Kenneth was great!

The first couple episodes were funny only thanks to Alec Baldwin, but now the show is more well rounded.

On an unrelated note, I'm developing an unhealthy crush on Tina Fey, which gets worse with each episode.

I was going to comment about how each episode demonstrates more and more how much Dratch got the shaft, but then I realized her 5 second non-speaking role actually gave her more screen time than Krakowski. I think I've underestimated Dratch. In five years we'll all either be working for her...or be dead by her hand.

I also loved the interaction with Alec Baldwin's character and Kenneth. That made the episode for me. When Kenneth laid down his cards on that last hand, did anyone else think he had a flush? I could have sworn they all looked like the same suit.

Just finished watching this one. I would agree with everyone who said that there weren't a lot of laugh out loud moments, but it was still funny and entertaining. It does seem the show is beginning to gel a bit better. I was on the fence before this episode but am now leaning more toward keeping it in my TV rotation.

Awesome episode, easily the best so far. I was ready to drop this show, but this was gold. Maybe it was the lack of Krakowski, or not dealing with the show within the show, or the lack of focus on Morgan, but this was a great episode.

^ I certainly agree. It was the right balance of characters this week. I wasn't sure about this show after the pilot, but I think I'll keep it around as well.

Baldwin should have taken the page to task for string betting.

It's a shame that that whole scene was almost entirely stolen from a Sex and the City scene involving Miranda's self-Heimlich Manuever ("Four Women and a Funeral" S2).

That's the first thing I thought, too.

This show finally got a laugh from the wife. That could be a sign of good things to come.

I think that may have been the point. I think we were supposed to get that she was imagining the choking after she stepped out of Baldwin's office. It would make sense that she would imagine it as a scene from SitC.
