It really seems to me like a huge problem with the writers for this series. They don't seem capable of writing Ephram and Amy happy together. Perhaps they subscribe to the school of thought that the only interesting relationships are those in turmoil, but the simple fact is that this show has so many interesting things going on that constantly putting Amy and Ephram together only to break them up again is turning the show into more of a melodrama than an actual drama. Perhaps I'm expecting too much of Everwood, but the show had one of the best first seasons of any "teen drama" that I've seen and to watch it slowly tumble into mediocrity because the writers can't seem to figure out how to make a happy couple interesting is unfortunate. |

They need to add 20 more cast members and move it to daytime the way they are heading. Don;t get me wrong, I still love to watch it and think that it is one of the better dramas on TV and that half the cast deserves Emmy nods they'll never get... its just that we seem to care more about EW than the writers due these days. |

I'm sorry but Ephram made no sense tonight. All the things that he went through to get Amy - all that romance and shit - and he didn't think they were going to last? Get outta here! Just 3 weeks ago they were playing the soul mates card. I just don't buy this at all, even with the adoption storyline.
Otherwise I really liked the ep. The focus on the elder Abbotts was a nice change. |

Yeah, it's getting to the point where I groan whenever an Ephram scene comes on. I would say the same for Amy's scenes as well, but at least Emily Van Camp is eye candy (looked good in that dress last night :up:)
I would say they need to find fresh mates, but Amy has already dated the All-American athelete (Colin), the introspective artist (Ephram), and the bad boy (drug dealing creep). She's fresh out of archetypes. :) |

I cannot believe how depressing this episode was. Ehpram and Amy, Dr. Brown, Amy, Mr. and Mrs. Abbott. Their self destructive relationship, his realization of love for Nina, her heart breaking, and their baby/illness issue(s).
I wonder if Harold will keep this from Rose for the time being and that will work its way into the finale. They played the baby and menopause portions perfectly to setup the heartbreak of the test results. It's almost hard to feel sad for Andy. I suppose that is a compliment to Treat William's acting. Now matter how many times he screws up, we manage to feel for him when things go badly for him. Perhaps it is because so much has happened to him. I find it interesting so many people sympathize with Andy, and yet they rag on Ephram. I feel so bady for Amy. Almost every cast member on this show deserves recognition for their acting. The way Emily VanCamp conveyed Amy's hurt was amazing - even if I don't enirely agree with her logic... ...and that's because I think the writers have amnesia. EPHRAM: Okay, look, I’m –I’m pretty sure we’ve been –we’ve been down this road before, many many times. In fact, I-I-it’s kinda crazy how many times we’ve been down this road without anything actually ever happening on the read. Y’know, it seems like something always messes us up. Lately that something has been me. I feel like I’ve been given a second chance and I don’t want to blow it. Y’know I-I can’t stop thinking about what you said about me staying and y’know I was really taking a shot and the thing is I know what would happen if we did that – it would be exactly the way I thought it would always be – perfect. Y’know, I never really worried much about what would happen if we actually got together. Somehow I always knew that part would work itself out. It’s just the getting there would seem so impossible, I could never imagine both of us being on the same page at the same time. AMY: Timing’s not our strong suit. EPHRAM: Yeah, exactly. [hesitates] But now… AMY: Now what? EPHRAM: [leaning in toward Amy] You’re it, Amy. You’re the one I want to be with. There’s no questioning it, no holding it back, no overanalyzing it. It-It just is. AMY: So you’re staying? EPHRAM: No. I have to go to New York. I have to go for –for lots of reasons – for-for myself to learn, not just about me, not just about the piano, but about everything about who I’m gonna be when I’m done with school. AMY: I don’t understand. EPHRAM: I mean, I-I could not go. I could be the guy that says y’know screw it it’s all about the girl but let’s face it I already am that guy. I know how to make you a priority. I’ve done it. I can do it again. If you ever need me, I’ll-I’ll be there, but right now I need to worry about making myself the priority and the only way I can do that is-is to go to new York. But I want you to wait for me. Anyway, I know most of you hate him, but that's my opinion for what it's worth. |
In Ephram's defense, he is a teenaged boy. I quite remember how a teenager can be madly in love and it feels so real and forever, and then a few months later not knowing what it is you want and getting really wishy-washy.
I think Amy is much more mature than Ephram in this respect. I am sure losing Colin probably made her much more grounded in what she wants and she has a wisdom beyond her years. The cynical part of me is wondering if the writers are intentionally trying to kill Rose because they think Harold would be for fun as a single character. Rose is such a stuffy, matronly character while I think Harold must be really fun for the writers to write for. They probably think they can give Harold more to do by making him a widower. Can Everwood handle 3 single doctors? Speaking of single doctors, I think the whole Jake and his brother storyline really dragged this episode down. Jake is such an ancillary character, and then by bringing in his brother-- I really did not care. I understand that Jake's presence affects Nina, which affects Andy, who is the core of the show. But delving into Jake's personal life and problems really does not resonate with me. I still don't see why they even needed to add this character. Everwood did fine for years with only one doctor and I can see how Andy was able to come in and get business, but I fail to see how the town can go from 1 doctor to 3 in a matter of a few years. Speaking of which, I notice that the writers have been so busy with all the melodrama of the major and minor characters that we no longer have the "medical emergency of the week". |
How does Ephram go from "Amy I am a mess I need your help" to "Amy I am a mess I can't be anyone's boyfriend right now"?? I think Ephram is just one of those people who thrives on being in turmoil.

Amy's (Emily) acting has improved a lot. She handles the sadder moments a little better. Also she has gone from being cute to stunning. When she was standing outside the shop alone .... WoW
I do have to say this season has been somewhat disappointing. The comedy is nearly gone. It's difficult to like either Andy or Ephram, therefore I am somewhat indifferent when bad things happen to either of them. The Abbots are the center of the show now. |
Next season could take on a "Dawson's Creek, the college years" flavor depending on where Amy ends up. I think she'll stay near home.
For some reason, even though Everwood started as the story about the Browns coming to Everwood, I think the core of the stories might stay with the Abbotts as well. |

And the Abbotts continue to have the better storylines, dominated by Bright (of course).

Ah, this is one of those episode that makes you just want to cry in your pillow as the Abbotts come together for Rose's battle with cancer. Harold's heartbreak, and feeling of helplessness, plus the guilt of putting off Rose's symptoms was almost too much to take at times. Rose getting worse was also another punch in the gut.
Ephram unloads everything his father wanted for him for his Eurotrip. Andy is pretty much powerless to stand in Ephram's way. Amy's world just keeps crumbling apart, last week, her relationship with Ephram goes kaput, and then finding out about Rose's condition didn't help. Bright finally figures out that he has feelings for Hannah, even if they still play if coy for now. They have nice chemistry, let's see if she can provide the impetus for Bright to get his act together. Andy acts strangely around Nina, but is able to parlay his troubles with Ephram for his reactions to her, knowing now that she had strong feelings for him a while ago, but now with Jake in the picture, he just has to simmer down and be a friend, but fighting every instinct to want to be something more. |
The Abbotts really is where this show is at now and I couldn't be happier.
Bright continues...well to be a bright spot on the show. The actor does a great job of adding dimension to the lines he's given. Also last night I was convinced that the actor should totally play the role of He-Man(if ever a movie were made again). His head is almost an exact replica of the Prince Adam figure I had when I was younger. As girly as it was, I was anticipating a Hannah/Bright kiss during that kitchen scene. Patman is right in saying they have a good chemistry going. Amy continues to break my heart. Ephram needs to get mugged or something for being such a dick to her. The Amy/Ephram scene was really good (as you could see on her face that she wanted to tell Eph what was going on, but that they weren't those people anymore) and the Amy/Hannah scene where she breaks down. Sad stuff. The Browns are a snore IMHO. I don't really care about the Andy/Nina business. I'm sure they'll end up together at some point, but Andy really doesn't deserve her. I know it's in his character to be dense as hell, but she was terribly obvious in her feelings towards him earlier this year, but now he wants to knock those boots? Sorry. She seems happy with her Party of Five dude and I wish they would leave them be. |
