Pretty damn good premiere. As the episode started I thought, "this opening is going to present a WTF moment" and sure as shit it did! I loved it.

Sawyer in the cage was the highlight of the episode. I was cracking up when he finally got the fish biscuit.

"The bears did it in 2 hours"
"How many were there?"

MrX 10-04-06 11:50 PM

Good to see we finally were able to see what happened to Jack and his wife.

Good start.

Good o see Elizabeth Mitchell

Mercury&Solace 10-05-06 12:21 AM

Soooo many WTF's. I can't stand it :hairpull:
Julie Bowen
WTF happened to Kate, her wrists were all bruised and tore the fuck up, I wonder if she tried to escape.
Kate in a towel  :hump:
Great great opening, and next week looks kick ass.

So is this correct, Jack's Dad was sober for 50 days, as so the lady said in AA. Then Jack was arrested for fighting with his Dad. Then Julie Bowen said he was drunk on the phone when he called her, did I catch this right?

Damn this show is crack.

Her name is Elizabeth Mitchell and play Ms Clause in Santa Clause 2.

im glad they finally start revealing things to us and answering all these questions!

Welcome back Lost.

Some help:

Everyone's book had different cover art but I saw "Carrie" sitting on the coffee table as the house began to shake. I also was thinking it had to be "The Stand", but the book on the table was definitely "Carrie".

The dude in the cage opposite Sawyer was Carl, the same guy who was attempting to fix Juliette's plumbing at the start of the ep.

Groucho 10-05-06 12:53 AM

I thought it was Ethan that was fixing her plumbing.

Pretty sure they said his name "Carl" as he emerged from the pipes.

Groucho 10-05-06 12:55 AM

I was too busy writing "OMG OMG OMG" repeated in my clue notebook to notice for sure. :(

Yes. As I noted above, we essentially found out what Jack "did"--i.e. what he did that was bad as everyone on the plane seems to have done something--with few exceptions.

We also see what his mom meant when she sent him after him saying he couldn't turn his back on him after "what you did to him."

We assumed it was turning him in and getting him fired for the surgical accident while impaired, but I always though that seemed a bit of an odd reaction since he was doing the right thing there.

Now we see it was Jack that drove him back to drinking, and indirectly led to that accident and his father's subsequent death.

Really enjoyed the season opener except for a couple of annoyances:

1) After watching Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, I was expecting the show to be aired in widescreen, and it wasn't! :(

2) I was watching with my parents and sister, who have never seen the show, so through the whole show, they (sister mostly) were asking "Who's that? Where are they? This doesn't make any sense!", and I had to try to explain some things to them, while also going WTF! myself!

Can't wait to see where things go. Glad to see we'll see the rest of the Losties next week.

That opening really threw me... The Others live in regular houses, and have book club?! Huh?!

Looking forward to hearing all the theories about what the hell is going on on the Island!

Brian

Damn, I hate to make you go crossing things out. I know what a shame it is to have a messy clue notebook. I hope you use white out sticks...

Go get an HDTV. The HD broadcast is in 16:9 widescreen.

And Jack is now my favourite character. This episode revealed layers of complexity in his character that Season 2 only hinted at.

bdshort 10-05-06 01:10 AM

I have a HDTV. I haven't picked up the cable companies HD box, but the most local ABC affiliate isnt HD anyway, AFAIK. Oh well :(

Tom Banjo 10-05-06 01:24 AM

Did anyone else hear Jack's dad's voice through the broken intercom?

riley_dude 10-05-06 01:30 AM

I am guessing Juliet is having to pretend or is being forced to treat Jack this way and Henry (Ben) is making her. She seemed conflicted. She also seemed like she was not happy during the song playing at the beginning.
Great episode. It almost reminded me of The Old Prisoner show.
So I am guessing she may be a new regular and the kid in the cage. I did hear they were adding new people but don't know which ones.
Where are the kids that were taken from the tail secion of the plane??

the big train 10-05-06 01:35 AM

Oh no, they've even got bug-eyed "Ben" hooked on that Jack-Kate-Sawyer love triangle crap!

I was surprised that I didn't mind not seeing what was going on back at the camp. The show really moved quickly for me and I didn't even feel there was anything suspect about the amount of commercials.

Good to know Sarah's happy now that her ex-husband has died in a plane crash.

hahn 10-05-06 01:40 AM

I don't think Elizabeth Mitchell got plastic surgery. She just had a baby less than a year ago, so I'm thinking they grew naturally.

Interesting that the book was Carrie. Interesting that she seems to dislike Ben. She seems to possess higher than average strength since she was able to knock out Jack (granted he was weak but the Others seem to be stronger than average in general).

Why was Jack so interested in finding out who Sarah was seeing?

kvrdave 10-05-06 02:01 AM

Okay, I get to be the guy who says, "What happened at the end? My DVR cut it off."

I forgot that they go over a bit more than most, so I missed it. I'll start recording The Nine from now on.

I thought I heard that too. It sounded like him saying "...let it go, Jack...." or something to that effect. Though, Juliet did say that Jack could start hallucinating because of the drugs they gave him, so it might have been in his head, or she was lying and it was really a recording being played back for some reason.

I have to say that the shot of the plane flying over the village, breaking into pieces was just chilling and amazing. That would be a kickass animated gif.

hardercore 10-05-06 02:55 AM

Anyone have word on what the show's ratings were like?

Yeah, that's why I put that disclaimer when I said my memory was hazy. After watching the episode again, you're right - the plane doesn't break apart until after they go outside. When I saw the episode I thought the tremors were an aftershock of the plane breaking apart, but I was wrong. I even forgot the burnt muffin scene.

A-aron 10-05-06 05:33 AM

were there any noticable faces in the AA group? I was trying to look quickly to see if anyone looked like people we have seen, but didn't catch any.

The American Express promos touted that members can catch things they might have missed, so there must be some clues hidden.

It was cool seeing Goodwin and Ethan sent off with orders to act like the crash survivors.

Other than her wrists - were there any other marks on Kate? The wrists would have come from the cuffs that Ben made her tighten before eating. Perhaps in order to eat she would have had to move around with those tightened cuffs on. It seems that each of the 3 were put into situations to see just how hard it would be for them to do "something." For Jack is was sit with his back to the wall before he would get food (remember the 1st time he did it, she did not get him food); for Sawyer the button/lever combo, and for Kate the cuffs (since they knew about everyone, perhaps the cuffs weren't for Ben's safety, but to remind her of who she is).

Either that or else these "others" have direct internet access to the outside world.

Interesting that after the "earthquake," when they went outside, Benry instinctively looked up in the air, as if a plane crash was expected.

B.A. 10-05-06 06:29 AM

The Others don't have internet access. They have the world's most powerful fax machine. Duh.
