Which do you like better, "Living Single" or "Friends?"

I've seen both, and I prefer "Living Single."

clckworang 10-02-06 05:28 PM

I've seen both and I don't like either one (and that should so be a choice on the poll -- that's why I selected none of the above).

lisadoris 10-02-06 05:30 PM

I saw Friends a few times and never found it funny. Living Single had its moments.

Filmmaker 10-02-06 05:41 PM

Holy shit, is this for real?! FRIENDS will be remembered with shows like THE HONEYMOONERS, I LOVE LUCY, ALL IN THE FAMILY, THREE'S COMPANY, CHEERS, FAMILY TIES, SEINFELD, FRASIER, and EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND as one of the great classic American sitcoms. LIVING SINGLE might be remembered as a Trivial Pursuit question.

Kal-El 10-02-06 06:58 PM

I've never even heard of "Living Single" 'til this thread.

PacMan2006 10-02-06 07:02 PM

I'll admit that I haven't watched a ton of Friends, but what I saw I didn't like. I just couldn't get into it.

Living Single was a pretty good show and I've always enjoyed it so this one is easy.

FantasticVSDoom 10-02-06 07:08 PM

Is Living Single the one with Queen Latifah and Tutti???? Um yeah, going to have to go with Friends on this one.

Jimmy James 10-02-06 07:29 PM

Friends is quite overrated, and Living Single is at least arguably underrated. That does not mean LS should even come close to being mentioned in the same sentence as Friends, though. Friends was legitimately very funny for much of its run. It faded at the end like most shows that last so long, and it was more popular than it ever deserved to be. Living Single is about as funny as something like Yes, Dear.

Im white

so Friends

BTW, this is what I believe grundle is getting at...the shows went against each other, with Living Single being watched by an almost exclusivly black audience while the friends audience was almost 100% white.

I remember a hysterical line in a SI article about the lone white player on the Howard football team who talked about sitting alone in his room watching Friends while the entire dorm was downstairs watching Living Single.

zebop 10-02-06 11:23 PM

I'm black but I liked Friends better. I do think it was a racial component to who watched what, but not for me. Friends was a better show, looked better, etc. Living Single was on tape and like most taped shows past the mid 90's, it looked silly...

Friends wasn't all that great. Friends in the same league with All in the Family??? I Love Lucy???? Gimme a break man. I mean seriously.

LIVING SINGLE might be remembered as a Trivial Pursuit question.

I'll give you that. It was a niche show geered towards Black America. White people are less likely to watch such a show. Blacks however, can crossover to white shows much easier.

i.e. I happen to be a huge fan of Frasier which was even "whiter" than Friends. :D

Slayer2005 10-03-06 03:50 AM

I wouldn't put I Love Lucy in the same league as Friends, but that might be because I'm not 50 or 60+ years old. :)

Living Single sucked. Friends was pretty good.

Why do you have "other" and "none of the above" as poll choices? They're the same thing. Your poll skills are slipping.

Also, they both suck. If I had to choose at gunpoint, I'd get shot.

Groucho 10-03-06 08:49 AM

Coupling :D

I'm white and I prefer "Living Single" by a huge margin.

My skills at making bad polls are getting better.

I dunno, though. I don't think Living Single was really geared towards black America, and I'm black too. It may have had more black viewers for sure, but it wasn't, say, a show like "In Living Color" which has a very specific focus and energy.

White people are certainly less likel to watch a black show I'm sure, but "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" had good cross over appeal. And "Living Single" seems to be cut from the same mold, more or less.

I watched Living Single. I'm white. Friends was better.

wendersfan 10-03-06 02:12 PM

I haven't seen either, but I like to vote in (grundle) polls.

If anyone else had started this thread I wouldn't have bothered voting.
