I can't believe the campaign was so short lived.

Yeah, I actually thought he'd get on the ballot too. The support he gained was pretty remarkable lined up with the other candidates, at least somebody's trying out there. You gotta respect him for going as far as he did.

Just got the Best of... DVD. Brilliant!
I really liked how Jane Fonda got him abit rattled. And the Manilow stuff is priceless.
Also, gotta admit abit of a man-crush on him.

Rush (no, not him) to guest on `Colbert'

By JAKE COYLE, AP Entertainment Writer

NEW YORK - Rush will be appearing on "The Colbert Report," and it's not Limbaugh.

The Canadian band Rush, which hasn't performed on U.S. television in more than three decades, will play their classic "Tom Sawyer" on the Comedy Central show Wednesday (11:30 p.m. EST). The Geddy Lee-led trio, which is currently on tour, hasn't played on U.S. television since 1975.

Rush is only the latest act to perform on "The Report," which has steadily edged closer to "Ed Sullivan Show" territory. With increasingly frequent musical performances, "The Report" has grown a variety-show impulse, evident in other upcoming bookings.

The rapper Nas will perform on July 23, Toby Keith will return for a second performance on July 28 and Crosby, Stills and Nash will play on July 30.

The Stephen Colbert-hosted comedy show was originally launched as a parody of conservative political punditry — and shows like "The O'Reilly Factor" do not make a habit of hosting music performances.

But "The Report" circus has expanded into musical realms, often with its sonorous host joining in. John Legend, Neil Young, R.E.M., Tony Bennett, Peter Frampton, Willie Nelson, Barry Manilow, John Mellencamp, the Roots and Carole King have all performed on the show.

Colbert's enthusiasm for the music has been easily apparent. He's sung the Star Spangled Banner (in two-part harmony) with Legend, and mocked the MTV-style band interview by questioning R.E.M. from a stool twice the size of those the band sat on.
One of my top 3 bands of all time!

I wonder if Neil Peart will pull out all the stops on the fills after the guitar solo. That'll be worth seeing in and of itself.

I'm thinking it will be the same exact song that we've seen and heard live since 1981.

Yeah, as much as I like Rush, they don't exactly mix it up when playing live.

They are the best at what they do, but they don't usually improvise.

fair enough. I just hope they keep the camera on him during that part, then. I hate it when they cut away during monster fills.

As a drummer who spent hundreds of hours playing to his songs in the 80's, I whole heartedly agree!

I watched Exit Stage Left approx 100 times in the first year (from the time I recorded it on VHS in Dec of 1981).

It still causes me to sweat watching that!

Laughed hard when Colbert interrupted them to say goodnight, and tried to shake their hands, only to realize they weren't done!

Actually, I thought he was a total idiot for interupting their song. Maybe they were in on it and didn't mind, but don't f'n interupt a Rush song for laughs.

Yeah they were laughing, I believe it was part of the gag, you can't play Tom Sawyer on a normal Colbert segment without being cut off.

Also the question he asked: Regarding how their songs are so long, by the end of the song do they ever get inspired by themselves from the beginning of the song! That question was genius.

If i get this show off iTunes.. I better expect to hear and see the full version of the song.

I didn't mind Colbert thanking them in the middle as it was part of the joke.

Apparently they will be on for a little bit tonight as well, I'm assuming it will continue the joke of them playing and playing...

I'm sure everything was scripted, and it was a great show!

Well, I am having to dvr the show again, because the last couple of minutes were cut off because the show went past 30 minutes.

I'll have to dvr the new episode tonight to see if they show up again. Hopefully he will let them play a different song tonight, WITHOUT interupting them.

I hope he got a lot of shit from Rush fans regarding that.

Sucka! I kinda figured something like that would happen so I extended it by 2 minutes. What was weird was coming back from the break, it seemed they back up to a point they played right before going to commercial.

Either they were showing it tape delayed at that point or Rush added to the song and looped back to that part. Only the studio audience knows for sure.

It would be nice if they posted the whole unadulterated performance on YouTube.

When I said "A little bit" I mean like a couple seconds not a whole song.
